"Nice hotel, a real experience."
We go to Disney often and had never stayed at AKL so we decided to split our week between the Polynesian (2 nights) and AKL (5 nights). AKL is very impressive, especially the lobby. The Christmas decorations made it all the more beautiful. It's a totally immersive experience staying here. We stayed club level so we were in Jambo House. Our room was on the 4th floor and kind of small (2 queens) but the view from the balcony was nice. We saw zebra, giraffe, gazelles, and a few other animals but they're not that close. The fridge in our room didn't work properly and there wasn't a blow dryer (strange). The beds were ok, nothing special. There are lots of things to do here, especially the restaurant tour at 4:15 pm don't miss it, it's free and they give you samples at both Boma and Jiko. The drum music was nice for the first day or two but after that it became annoying. No relaxing in the lobby because there was almost constant African drumming going on. It actually drove me crazy after a while. Our room wasn't too far from the lobby which is good because if you are at the end of the lodge you will have a very far walk everyday. We much prefer the Polynesian where we had the cheapest room over AKL club level room. The club was nice and the service was exceptional but I doubt we would ever stay club level again.
"Week of fun "
We really had a great time. We used the concierge level. Snacks wine beers sodas. It helped us save having to think about eating out every meal. The decor is wonderful. The restaurants are good. You do spend a little bit more time on the bus to the parks but we didn't mind. The animals were really a treat to watch sitting on the balcony. The bunk beds were fun.
"Poor Housekeeping Soiled Experience"
Nothing short of an amazing concept and beautiful property. Unfortunately, housekeeping was probably the worst I've ever encountered in a hotel. This was our first Disney vacation and we splurged. Knowing how poor the housekeeping was, I am pretty sure we'll not stay at another Disney resort when we return. Grounds are beautiful - we had a Savannah view and it did not disappoint. Buses to the park were regular and timely. We tried the buffet restaurant which was very good as well as the quick service restaurant - also good for fast food. During our week-long stay, the floor was NEVER cleaned. Upon first arriving, I noticed buttons and confetti on the floor. It bothered me so I picked up what I could. Returning from our second day at the park, we noticed our remote control didn't work and over half of the channels didn't work. Housekeeping also failed to take our dirty coffee mugs/beer mugs. Finally complained to the front desk about it all. They promised to have a thorough cleaning done the next day. That did not happen. We returned from the parks the next day, and the floors were in the same exact shape. Confetti and debris which was kind of gross. They never vacuumed before we arrived and definitely not while we stayed there. The TV channels were never fixed. They did change the remote though. All in all, I would not recommend this resort until they can consistently deliver a clean room. Not worth it, which is a shame given the beauty of the location.
"Great place for kids "
The hotel itself is amazing. As soon as you walk in you are blown away and transported to Africa! It has everything you could want for a family Disney vacation, the only thing that lets this place down is the customer service and check in process. It took longer than 30 mins to check in and when you pay hundreds of $$ to stay there and go to the parks, you definitely don’t want to be standing at a desk for half an hour. They couldn’t set up our PIN numbers for room charge and we were told we would have to wait for IT to fix otherwise pay cash or credit for everything! Was just so disappointing that this issue became the customers problem, they should have thought of a different solution - one that didn’t inconvenience us. Also there’s absolutely no water in the rooms, for the amount of money you pay a couple of bottles of complimentary water at the beginning of your stay wouldn’t hurt. Then when I tried to have some delivered to the room I was told it would be 40mins. So overall, the facilities are fantastic, rooms are nice, restaurants are great and they definitely cater for young families, but if bad service frustrates you then maybe not for you.
"Just like being in Africa!"
From the moment you walk through the door, the smells, decor and sounds are like you are in africa. Amazing views of animals in the savanna, other key things such as... * Fire pit in reception area perfect place to relax *large outdoor firepit with rock8bg chairs * Activities ongoing for children all over the hotel and pool area. * food court has a good variety * can also use kidani village facilities * customer service outstanding * gift shop has plenty of variety My only negatives were that the pool area could be so much better (after all it is disney). It has one slide, and then the little paddling pool for kids. It could of done with a little waterworks splash station which my 3 year old would of loved. However, kidani did have one so i suppose thats the get out. Although i dont really want to be walking to kidani or getting on the bus all the time just to go for a swim or a splash. The rooms were lovely and we had 2 queen beds in ours. For a family of 3 we had enough room because realistically just how much time is actually spent in your room in Disney? We were lucky to get a partial savannah view for our stay due to it being our honeymoon. At first we were given a carpark view, then a partial pool view behind a tree, which i was not very impressed with and it was noisy from the pool. When we return in a few more years i would definately pay the extra to ensure i have savannah room (after all its part of the experience and when you are paying all that money already, you may aswell have a view to wake to every morning). Would i stay again... definately! Felt so homely and safe ♡
