"Just somewhere to stay"
This was one of those holidays that you have on your list as places to go in your life time. Now that my son was old enough to appreciate Disney and the rides I decided to take the plunge. Me and a 12yrs old for 2wks in Florida. We had already booked theme park tickets prior to leaving the UK. We went through a travel agent to find this hotel as I wasn't brave enough (being the only adult) to find us accommodation. The first thing to mention is that there are 2 Double Trees and even though we gave transport our ticket they took us to the wrong one.. this is Seaworld (24 stop on i-ride). Oh, before I go any further let me discuss transport with you. I was told when I booked my holiday that a hired car was included, however my intention was not to take up this offer, as like I said, I was the only adult going and I didn't fancy a stressful holiday of driving. However literally a week before the holiday I noticed that no transfers from the airport to the hotel were included in my price. I therefore checked this all out and learnt that I would receive a hired car on arrival at the airport and that after paying around 200 dollars for insurance, I would then need to drive us to the hotel which was around 40 minute drive. This idea filled me with fear so I inquired into coach transfers etc and £70 later I had both ways sorted for my son and I. I am so glad I made that decision as the road system over there was scary enough to cross let alone drive on. Anyway, I later found out that it cost around 14$ a day to park your car at the hotel and that it cost around 18$ to park at each theme park. I know some of you may be thinking, well there's 4 or more of us so it will be cost effective... well, this hotel offers FREE transport each day to every theme park!! so unless you wish to venture outside of the tourist areas then surely this is the way to go. The i-ride trolley that everyone talks about is also a must. the stop is literally outside the hotel and is extremely easy to use to get to supermarkets, places to visit and eat (there are 2 shopping outlets, one at each end of the i-ride) So we arrived at the hotel, we were given a map which showed 19 blocks of accommodation along with the tower, and 3 pools. Our room consisted of 2 double beds, a tv area and a washbasin area, there was a bathroom off this room (toilet and bath/shower). the room was a little old fashioned in furnishings but was ok for our needs. I think room service came every other day or so and I would ensure I was around to ask for teabags, as this didn't appear to be recognised as a requirement, coffee seem to be the "in" thing. The pools were described as; family, lagoon and serenity. However at times there appeared to be children at each pool, so if you wished some quiet time it was best to get out first thing, around 8 to enjoy the peace. Around 11 music would start in the Lagoon pool and on the days children's activities were planned it was the same for the family pool. On a positive note there was a film night twice a week, which was a children's film where the kids could buy drinks and popcorn and watch the film whilst being in the pool. My son totally enjoyed this and the novelty of being in a warm pool to watch a film was "awesome". The venue offered several eating opportunities and whilst we stayed here we tried them all. I notice that some folk have mentioned how expensive breakfast was, however I always asked for exactly what I wanted and only paid for that. The breakfast buffet was vast, with a good choice of cereal, fruit, yogurt, toast, and cooked breakfast, although my son and I generally went for eggs on toast. The coffee shop had a good choice of pastries, cakes for breakfast and we did try the pizza on several occasions which was lovely. Like I said, I'd never done the USA before. I have however done several holidays in Turkey, Greece, Spain and I'm very much use to the bar being the hub of a night time for holiday makers. I was at first sadden to see that this wasnt the case here. There were 2 bars, one inside the reception area (which had air-con and I literally found myself hugging my body whilst walking through, so never drank there) and the outside bar by the Lagoon pool. The staff there appeared to be there purely to do their job, they were not like the bar staff you would get in European holiday results, who enjoyed the banter and didnt mind however long you wished to stay up for. Literally at 11.50 the security guards would turn up and tell you to move because the bar was shutting shortly. I suppose it was on the first occasion that this happened that I realised how multi-functional this hotel was, again, not like European results which are purely there for "holiday makers". In the time we were there we saw several business conferences going on, as well as weddings. Other Americans I spoke to had travelled up to the hotel purely as a weekend break and this reinforced not only the vastness of this country but the difference between past holidays I had taken. The staff were there if I needed them, but I cant say they went out of their way to make my holiday more enjoyable. The biggest bonus of staying here was definately the free transport to the theme parks. Would I stay here again? I'm not sure, but then now I've done "Disney" I doubt I would go back to Florida anyway.
"Fantastic Florida Hotel!"
Just back from a 2 week family holiday in Orlando where we stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton at SeaWorld. This is a fantastic hotel, spotlessly clean, with very friendly staff throughout the hotel from the reception staff, to the various employees in the shops, bars and restaurants, to the Expedia help desk who help you to book free transfers to the various theme parks. We had a room with 2 doubles beds which was of ample size for ourselves and our 2 kids. Flatscreen tv with a good selection of channels, air conditioning and an in room safe were all part of the deal at no extra cost - how refreshing! Location is ideal for SeaWorld and Aquatica with added benefits of staying in an affiliated hotel e.g. fast passes for SeaWorld rides / 10% discount on drinks and food within the parks. I-trolley stop 24 right outside the hotel and therefore also ideal for International Drive, whichever direction you are going in. Also great facilities within the hotel to keep kids entertained on those rest days - 3 pools, hot tub, giant checkers, crazy golf, pool, table tennis - again all at no extra cost. Pool party on a Saturday afternoon for the younger kids. Felt with both a 12 year old and a 15 year old that it was a bit expensive to eat in the hotel although when we did the food was excellent. Would definitely consider staying here again upon our return to Orlando and have already recommended this hotel to a friend who is looking at next year.
"Awesome stay as always"
We came over to go to Halloween Horror nights at Universal and we chose to stay here again. We have stayed here over 25 times and it is always a perfect stay. April Willis is always awesome and provides top notch customer service. My wife and I love it here. The rooms are spacious and always very clean. There are many choice to stay in Orlando but you will not find a better place to stay than the Double Tree. Great breakfast as well one of the best we have ever had while traveling.
"Wonderful Stay Very Impressed "
I work as a Director of Sales for two hotels. I am a critic when it comes to the hotels I stay at. Housekeeping gets a 100% room was spotless. Front desk clerk fast friendly enjoyable. Hotel is beautiful. I truly felt like I was home. There is so much to do on property with your family. I will defiantly stay there again!
"Excellent hotel! Love everything about this property!"
Everything about this property was great! From the services of checking in, the housekeeping, maintenance and the restaurant as well as the Market! My nephew also loved the pool with the movie screen projector in front 1 of the pools! Close to everything. Will definitely return!!!
