"Comfortably above my Expectations"
I was nervous about this trip because my partner and I decided to find a place outside of Disney World instead of staying at one of the expensive resorts within the park. To be quite honest, I didn’t really trust any hotels around the area and was sceptic about reviews, but decided to give the Melia a shot... and I’m pretty happy I did. We got to the hotel, and the entrance looks much better in person than it does in any picture. When we were about to check in, another couple beside us seemed to have a problem with their stay and the front desk staff apologized, but the couple handled it well so it was either something small or they were just cool about it. So I naturally said to myself “oh greatâ€, but remember that was someone else’s experience, not mine. They directed us to our room using a map, and once we got to our room I was actually in awe. This wasn’t a hotel room. This was a full fledged Condo. It was huge. Full kitchen, giant windows with a nice view, 2 flat screens, king size bed, you name it. Bathroom was spacious but a if you wanna spice things up and take a bath, the tub is a little small. Showers will do just fine. So I was pretty happy. Breakfast was fantastic I had no problems with it, and the pool was quite nice too. There is no deep end, but that doesn’t really matter too much. It’s a 5 min walk (or less) to a plaza with about 8 restaurants, and a 10 minute walk to the Publix grocery store if you wanna make something back in the room. Only issue I found that was sort of annoying was the access to the shuttle and shuttle times. It doesn’t take you directly to the parks. It takes you to the TTC or Ticket and Transportation Centre where you need to get on another bus to go to the park or take a train (monorail) to get to the park. With security checks and line ups it takes about 20-25 mins to get to one of the four parks. But on the way back home, it takes longer. If you want to stay for a late firework show and make it back to the shuttle at the TTC in time? Forget it. Probably won’t happen since there is so much people and traffic all trying to get out at once. In summary it takes probably 3 times longer to get back to the hotel than it does to get to the park. In summary I’d give the Melia a solid 90%. If you are driving yourselves, then the shuttle issue won’t be a problem.
"Best Hotel I ever stayed at!"
For a first trip to Orlando that the wife and I have been planning for over 30 years, the Melia demonstrated what hospitality can be. When we arrived, we were asked what floor we would like to stay on. The staff recommended the fifth floor where we could see the fireworks at night. When we opened the door to our room, our jaws hit the ground. The room was like a small i bedroom apartment with ceilings that appeared to be 9 feet tall! The was a full kitchen with pots, pans, plates, utensils, glasses, etc. Even had a dishwasher and full size refrigerator. There was two televisions in the room, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The room was clean (checked with black light). Hotel was located just off one of the main freeways in the area. Convenience stores were within walking distance. Would stay at this hotel again and would recommend the Melia to anyone staying in Orlando.
"EXCELLENCE!!! IN EVERYTHING."
Top Service, Top Everything... Great multilingual Staff, Awesome food, Super Clean Rooms, good WIFI, Top Bar spot. In Summary - 10 Stars!!! Perfect location, beautiful building and grounds, etc. Keep up the good job.
"Not the worst hotel, but beware the little things..."
Staff in the rooms area of the building were nice, always said hello , offered the elevators to us first and just very polite and professional . Staff upon check in ( late evening) were a little less than professional. Attempted to double charge me a room fee even though I paid it already in full ( not just a hold or reserve on my account) months ago along with the entire reservation and taxes, but made me show written proof . not sure why his internal system would no have shown it. Maybe he was just overwhelmed by the task, I don't know, just a little off-putting. No invoice was under my door the morning of checkout like their binder said they would do. Didn't make them service my room but 3 out the of the seven days we were there, but when they did , they never left toilet paper. Ran out and had to have then call for some. This occurred AFTER I allowed them to service our room two days straight out of concern for TP running low and some how they missed putting a roll in our room both days which was why I had to end up calling them for some in the night. There were never any wash rags in our room, so I thought they didn't provide those which was off putting as well since we had make-up and sweat we would like to wash off. But then, on the last overnight there, they had serviced our room that morning and low and behold- they left ONE wash rag for two people. Wow, they did have them, but apparently we were expected to share it. Also, faucets in the bathroom were not secure on the sink counter top, and bathtub drain would not empty until after you were out of the tub and dried off ( probably clogged with hair - GROSS) You would think housekeeping would notifiy maintanance since they are "cleaning" those rooms all the time. The water pressure was VERY weak the whole time, hard to feel like soap was rinsing off of you. Would have liked to see the light fixtures leading into our entrance outside working instead of wires on the ground with plastic buckets covering some and some of the buckets laying around the grounds. Although parking was decent, getting out of the hotel entrance with a left turn was VERY DANGEROUS ( no stop light access, and cars coming around a blind curve right at the entrance- BAD DESIGN ) and a major reason why we will shop a different resort for our next visit to the ORLANDO area. Also, upon checkout, I went to the front desk to get a paper copy of my bill. There was an attempt to charge me an additional bed fee each day of our stay that we didn't use or ever ask for considering we were a party of 2 in a one bedroom with a king bed and a fold out couch. I told them we didn't use any roll out bed at any time and they could check our room to prove it. I am the customer and even though the charge was only 26 cents per day(?????) they still questioned me like I was trying to get something for nothing- Rude. Plus, they automatically put a donation charge of $1 against my account for UNICEF??? And last but not least, they charged me $1.36 for some "room fee" after they took the random roll away bed charges off. Again, Thought I paid all the room fees before check in ? Too much hassle to stay here again if I feel I have to make sure "I'm " not the one being taken advantage of on the deal! It's the little things that when in volume together, really add up- not in a good way.
I have stayed in many Melia brand hotels before so when we decided to spend our honeymoon in Orlando it was an obvious choice for us and we were not disappointed. When we arrived and checked in we were greeted by a lovely lady who had obviously been informed that we were on honeymoon, she gave us our room and said that she had left a few treats in there. It was truly wonderful, there were chocolates, balloons, wine and strawberries such a lovely touch. The room itself was spacious, clean and had a wonderful view over the pool and a nice balcony area. There is a lovely bar and restaurant which are reasonably priced especially at happy hour!! The best selling point of this hotel however is the amazing staff who I cannot fault. Bryan, Maria and Will in the bar deserve a special mention as they were so welcoming and friendly. Also a special mention to Justin who was always on hand to answer any questions and to offer some great local knowledge/tips. The shuttle bus is an excellent service offered with very good pick up/drop off times but if you don't want to be restricted the hotel is in a great location so just uber it, the prices are really reasonable between $15-$25 for Disney and universal. Just to address a few points made on other reviews, yes some of the staff are Spanish but they all speak perfect English and were warm and friendly. A few mentioned that the furniture was tired and not fit for purpose but we didn't find this to be the case, yes if you looked really closely there were a few scratches but really is it that important?!! Thankyou Melia for a truly wonderful stay and making our honeymoon perfect. I can't recommend this hotel enough!!
