"Portofino Bay Hotel - AMAZING"
We were visiting Universal Orlando to celebrate our son's 12th birthday as he had never been to these parks before and is finally old enough to truly appreciate roller coasters. We decided to spend the extra money and stay at the Portofino Bay Hotel in order to take advantage of the Unlimited Express Pass that comes with staying here. This was worth its weight in gold alone, but we never expected to fall in love with the hotel as much as we did. It started out at the front desk with Diana. She was incredibly sweet, had a great sense of humor, and was absolutely genuine in wanting to make sure we had everything we needed. The room was wonderful with very comfortable beds, and having a view of the water was spectacular! On the third night of our trip, my son received an unexpected gift. Diana had put together a gift basket that included an assortment of chips, candy, and chocolate, along with a hand-written note wishing my son a very happy 12th birthday! Out of all the years that we went to Disney for his birthday and stayed on property, no one ever took the time to do something so special for him. He was truly touched, and so were we. I can't wait until the next time we get to come to Orlando because I look forward to my next stay at the Portofino Bay Hotel!
"Italy in Orlando"
Everything was truly 5 star and VIP to the max. The restaurants are phenomenal and the service is excellent. With the harbor and piazza you will feel like you're in Italy. The pool is beautiful and heated so we were able to swim in February. The food is delicious. One of our favorite things to do is get a pizza, cheese plate and bottle of wine from Sals and sit in the piazza for dinner. Absolutely beautiful!
"Loews Portofino Bay Hotel : A little peace of heaven"
Experienced a very relaxing stay at Portofino Bay Hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable and very clean. Also enjoyed the boat taxi to Universal Studio, had great dinners at Red Oven, Vivo and twice at Hard Rock Cafe. Can't wait to return.
This was one of the first on property hotels I stayed in. The water view in front of the property is gorgeous! The buildings are so realistic it is like right out of Italy! The grounds are beautiful with nice decorations. The pool is big with a lot of places to lay out. You also get the express pass with staying at this hotel, and the boat transportation. We didn't eat at the restaurants. I personally prefer Cabana Bay or Sapphire Falls because there is more to do and the price is better!!
"Amazing service and location, rooms not 5 Star quality"
If you want to be close to Universal Studios, you could find no better place. The boat shuttle service is fantastic and lets you go back and forth as many times as you need from very early in the morning until 2am. Its intended to have an Italian feel based on the town in Italy of the same name and they've done a great job as it really looks good and the common parts such as reception and bars were lovely. Its far more relaxed than the Disney hotels and has a very calm feel. We went with 2 children aged 6 and 16 and they both loved it. We bought park tickets in the hotel and were able to use the fast pass service which is great perk and really worth it. The service is wonderful, the front of house staff helping with your car, bags and tickets are excellent and really can't do enough for you. We had some great tips for places to eat and their recommendation was amazing, nice for hotel staff to promote both their own restaurants and outside the hotel so you get the most from your visit. We ate in the Trattoria for dinner on our first night and my daughter loved the fact Gru and the Minions were there. On the whole, the on-site restaurants are great and food was good too. Only feedback is on the price but I suppose you should expect that. Breakfast was c$90 for four, we had the same breakfast in a really smart restaurant outside the hotel for $50. Bice was also brilliant for food but again expensive, for 4 main courses with no starter or dessert and 2 glasses of wine and 2 soft drinks was over $200. On the down side, the rooms are just not 5 star quality. The walls were dirty, furniture scratched and no fridge in the room. We asked for the vanity mirror to be repaired during our stay and for something to be done with the toilet that erupted with air every 2 hours throughout the night. The mirror was fixed, but despite asking twice nothing was done about the toilet. Apparently the first time they said we had a do not disturb sign on the door, we didn't and the fact the room was serviced in the morning confirmed that. We had to keep remembering to shut the bathroom door during the night so it didn't wake us up all the time which isn't a great situation when your supposed to be in a luxury hotel. We would go again as its in a perfect position but wonder whether its worth upgrading the room next time?
