The lobby and parts of the hotel are being renovated. When checking in I was told I was upgraded to a balcony which is fantastic because there aren't many at this hotel but they are quite small. Our room was located in the east tower but due to construction you had to take the west tower elevators...long way around, not too happy. While the east elevators where boarded up and closed off there was painting going on during the day by the very crowed west area. Not sure why this painting couldn't take place at night. Overall if you are looking to stay here to save money instead of staying at a Disney resort just be aware that there is a $25 nightly resort fee AND a $20 nightly parking fee.
"Better than expected"
We wanted to begin our Disney trip early, so we used SPG points for 1 night at Dolphin before checking into Grand Floridian. We weren't sure what to expect since we've only stayed at deluxe Disney properties, but overall we enjoyed our stay and would keep it in mind for the future. Not sure I could spend a whole week here, but it's a good option for Marriott/SPG members. Pros: Rooms appear newly renovated. Convenient walk to Beach, Yacht, and Boardwalk. Austin at the front desk was very helpful and able to provide an upgrade to water/fireworks view. Property was clean overall and construction in lobby was unnoticeable. The grounds were picturesque and the beach/pool areas reminded me of Polynesian. Good value for SPG points. Cons: Mainly cleanliness of the room. Fridge was not cleaned out and there was a hairband hanging on bathroom door that wasn't ours. Those should've been noticed. Room was also a little bit dusty. $20 self-parking fee seemed excessive. Walks to Epcot and Hollywood Studios were possible but felt long, especially in heat and humidity.
Large hotel but you wouldn't know it. Undergoing some renovation but they are dealing with it well and it never becomes obtrusive. Right in the middle of Disney but without a lot of the Disney baggage. Great ticket booking service for just about everything. Beach area and pool great for kids and gym open 24 hours great for jet lag.
"Worst conference hotel"
Ugly property with no windows. Felt trapped as if in prison. Forced into upgraded room with less amenity and no functioning light. When asked to change back to original reservation, hotel lost my luggage and was told to "calm down" when mildly lamenting that while my pitiful luggage hold nothing but old underwear I sort of need them nevertheless during my stay for the critical care board review. Assistant manager and bell boy director made no effort to assume responsibility and offered no concrete apology. Will advise ACCP to seek other facilities to host their meetings. Last year at Arizona's Waldorf Astoria much better. Board reviews are miserable and abusive enough. No need to be abused by the hotel management while paying exorbitant price for fast food. Felt like cattle as a conference attendee.
"Overpriced And Fees Galore!"
As Disney annual pass holders who visit the parks every year, we decided to give this hotel a try. What a mistake! It's very expensive and doesn't give you the full benefits of staying on Disney property. The hotel was being renovated but we weren't told in advance. The room was average at best, lower quality than a Disney value resort. But the worst thing is that they charge a daily fee for wifi and transportation, which wasn't disclosed until we checked out. It was over $20 per day. There is no extra charge for this at Disney resorts. They also charge $20 per day for parking! At an outside lot no less. And unless you're a Disney annual pass holder if you use your car you'll have to pay Disney too. The parking fee also wasn't disclosed in advance. I was so disappointed I didn't even ask for Starwood points at checkout. The staff were surly and unsmiling. When I complained about the charges no one cared. They even tried to charge me twice for parking! All around terrible experience. We left after two nights and stayed at the Disney All-Star Sports resort, which was $100 less per night (not counting the fees) and a much better experience. If you want the Disney experience do not stay here!
