"Good location, average hotel"
Pros- great location to Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Boardwalk hotels. Found a great rate on a off site website which was fair for the hotel value. Above average size rooms with fridge. Our second room was renovated which was worth the $25 upgrade we paid at check in. Very comfortable beds. Cons- we paid $35 to upgrade to a balcony room. Once in the room, it was very dated and had a musty smell masked by strong bleach smell. Balcony view was blocked by big palm tree. We needed to room change due to ants all over the bathroom counter. Upon returning to the FD, I told them we did not need the balcony view and would take the $25 upgrade instead which resulted in a renovated room which was a bonus. Food is a bit on the pricey side.. $17 for a burger and fries but it is Disney so it is expected. Sidewalks should be refinished on walkway because if it rains, it is like ICE so wear proper sneakers and not flip flops. Would like to see additional costs reflected in room rate instead of add ons. While parking and resort fees are standard in this area, I would like to see it reflected in the rate so you know exactly what you are paying upfront. Lastly, I read reviews where it stated to check you bill before checkout. We did and they still charged the $35 for the upgrade (that we needed to change rooms due to ants) instead of $25 for the room we received. They adjusted the bill to $25 upon check out. Overall, a good hotel for the price paid but definitely need to fix some issues to remain competitive.
"Everything is right here!"
Great property to have a meeting or family vacation. We did both and were very impressed with the helpful staff. You can walk to Epcot or Disney Studios, if not just hop on one of the boats to take you there. They have buses to take you to the other parks that are on a regular schedule. The rooms are very comfortable and if you ask when checking in you will have a view of the fireworks each night from Epcot.
"Wonderful place for Meetings and relaxation"
It was a wonderful place to hold our meeting of 2000 people. Service was great as you can see the staff went out of their way to accommodate the meetings, especially during luncheon and breaks. There were no added distractions during meetings. Getting around was easy. There is aboard walk close by, so you can stretch out after a long day of meetings. Night was very beautifully displayed as in Walt Disney style. Nice restaurants, food was a little salty. Staff was amazing and helpful. They were trained well.
"Still has that magic!"
I returned to the Dolphin after 18 years with my family and it still has that magical Disney feel. (Even though it is not a Disney Hotel). The hotel has great transport links to all the parks. The friendship boat (located between the swan and dolphin hotel) will get you to either Hollywood studios or Epcot in 20mins. The Disney buses (located outside the front entrance of hotel) will get you to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon and Disney Springs. Both types of transport have a wait time of 20 mins and they do stop at various hotels along the way. I love the entrance with the fountain. Check in was straight forward. There is a small area for kids to play and watch TV while you do this. The hotel is enormous. Corridors winding in every direction. Next time I will request a room close to the elevators as we had to walk so far to get to our room!! The room itself was a good size. We requested a room with a balcony which was handy to dry our swimwear on!! Shame it wasn't facing the nightly firework display. We could hear it each evening. The room has a large TV with about 45 channels. Enjoyed watching a few American classics during my stay! The bathroom is small but clean. It's a low bath with a shower curtain. The basin and mirror is outside the room. There is also a handy little tea and coffee machine which makes Starbucks!! There is a small fridge in the room for your Walgreens/Walmart shopping!! You can view the fireworks if you head to the promenade (the link between swan and dolphin hotel) or a short walk up to The Broadwalk. The Broadwalk in a lovely area with a few shops, restaurants and nightlife. We dined at the Garden Grove (Swan) a few times as they do the character dining with Goofy and Pluto. The food here is delicious. American sized portions. You chose your main from the menu (4 choices) and then you help yourself to the buffet extras like soup salad and dessert. Our favourite mains were the vegetarian pasta dish and the salmon dish. Fresh and tasty. The staff were so lovely too. Regularly we would dine in or take out from Pikabu restaurant (Dolphin). This place reminds me of my school canteen. You pick what you want and pay at the end. Unfortunately the two weeks we were here the menu remained the same but I enjoyed the food. Sometimes I just wanted tea and toast. Other times I would have their porridge (oatmeal) and their delicious omelettes. In the evening it was Mexican, tacos, beans and rice, fajitas etc. Really tasty. The staff here were very accommodating. We also dined a Kimonos (Swan) as we enjoy Sushi. The lady who looked after us was so nice. My kids got their Cucumber Maki and edamame fix here. The bar in the lobby area is open everyday in the morning to grab and go too. Croissants , muffins, bagels, juices, fruits and all types of hot drinks. Really handy when you are in a rush to head to the park for the day. Unfortunately they cannot toast bagels/bread. The self serve laundrette facilities were very useful. This room has so many washing machines and dryers with ironing facilities. Plus a television to watch while you do your laundry!!€1 for a box of soap. €3 to use a washing machine or dryer. You can pay with cash or just swipe your debit/credit card. The gym was fab!! 2 rooms of equipment plus a studio where you can put on a video and do a workout. I chose to do my yoga here. They have mats/ropes/balls/weights for your use. The changing rooms in here have shower facilities. There is also a running/jogging path around the hotel. If you want company you can request this in the gym. We didn't use the kids club during our stay..They offered us 2 hours free in the evenings for parents to be able to dine without them. We noticed they had so many activities going on from hair wrapping/movies/arts and crafts etc. They also play Disney films in your room on certain days which I really enjoyed watching in the morning while getting ready. We visited off peak in February so the hotel was pretty quiet. There were a lot of people coming and going at times due to conferences in the hotel. The choice of pools is endless. They were all great. The largest pool with the shoots was unfortunately closed during our 2 weeks here. It was having maintenance work. The jacuzzi pool was lovely and hot - Well needed after 8 hours of park trekking every day! The only downside is the freezing cold air conditioning around the hotel. They pump it so high around the corridors. I made sure my room can was switched off. Being from the UK we are not used to this cold. I preferred opening the balcony door for fresh air. Be prepared for constant hot to cold around the US. I was sneezing for days! It is handy to carry around a cardigan/scarf. If you decide to hire a car, check your booking as you will be charged €20 a day to park you car in hotel car park. If you are only visiting parks I feel there is no need for a car as the hotel transport is very good. If you wish to visit outlets or International Drive use Uber. It is much cheaper than hotel taxi. Everywhere we visited from all parks to The Pointe International drive for dining and all the outlets and malls the travel time was roughly 20-35mins from the Dolphin hotel. This gives you an idea of how well located this hotel actually is. I was really really happy with my choice of hotel for our Disneyworld visit. I will definitely stay here again and recommend to my friends.
"Functional - definitely not on the Visit Again list!"
Stayed here with family for just under 2weeks. We attended a week long event at the hotel and we chose it for convenience. Our family of 5 stayed in the Deluxe / Alcove room. First impressions; the check-in staff were friendly and helpful. As it was Christmas time the lobby was decorated and was lovely. The hotel is dated could definitely do with some upgrading. One of the first things I noticed was the faded old carpet. The hall way was dirty and there was a smell - old smell. What ever it was it was in the corridors and in our room. The room offered a lot of space but felt dirty and old. The extra blankets were discoloured eeek! had to request for replacement! Our room was discounted via the event we were attending but I will not pay full price for it! It is not value for money. Until they upgrade it they should offer their rooms at half price! The towels also smelt weird! They felt like sand paper and had a weird smell to it. It wasn't a bad smell but you'd expect a nice fragrant aroma to come from towels should there be an aroma....but not these! I thought it was just a one off but no. We received hard old weird smelly towels, some even had stains on it. The house keeping was ok in the beginning and then they became inconsistent. Food from room service was disgusting! Table and plates from room service was left outside our door for 2 days! This is a common practice because we see it along the corridors. For the price we paid and convenience it was ok. I will not be staying at this hotel if not necessary. Wifi is complimentary and it worked fine for us. They offer $$ premium as well. You also get complimentary water, coffee and tea if house keeping do their job daily. If for some reason you need to print out something from your device or phone you will need to pay to use their old dinosaur PC located on the business floor. There is no bluetooth, plugin of any kind - printing available. Bottom line, the hotel was functional for what we needed on this travel. If we were to visit Disneyworld we will choose another.
