Over The Chalet Kilauea Hotel

Our favorite

"Chalet Kilauea Hotel: Deluxe Bungalow NOT DELUXE"

   03-12-2016
Cold and damp. Very disappointing. Heat provided by electric space heaters - really?!? Very tacky! Not even close to what we perceived from website. Location great. Facility not. We would stay there only if this is the only available accommodation close to the volcano.

"Quaint = Design greater than function"

We loved having a room in town just five minutes away from the national Park. It helps staying nearby when nature doesn't always cooperate. On our overnight visit, we went to the Overlook four times. and saw fog, three lava flows, 1.25 flows and fog. My favorite time to go was at 6 o'clock in the morning with no crowds and the sky is still dark. We also loved the walk up to our room past the beautifully landscaped pond and up the wooden stairs. The walk into room 108 was special with the various art pieces, the above counter sink exposed wood and stone beams greeting us. A room with lots of character. And also well equipped with microwave. Fridge, coffee maker, walk in shower, fans, tv, and outlets, strong wifi and lots of electric outlets along the wall. We loved our room until we started using it. No bedside tables to put glasses or a bottle of water. Outlets outlets everywhere but none by the bed for charging phones. The bathroom has a skylight into the bedroom which is cool, until you need to use the bathroom at night and can't turn on the lights. No bathroom hooks behind the door but above the toilet so don't hang anything long there. No automatic locking door (need to manually lock door when leaving), Low (but adequate) shower pressure. No portable luggage rack. No warning sign of the step right outside the door. But lots of character. Not your standard motel or hotel room. So if you don't mind carrying luggage up some stairs, stumbling on the hidden step a few times, and experience some minor #firstworldproblems, i recommend the lodge. We loved the convenient map of town with open/close times and the cool design touches. We loved the location and the character. Do grab some half and half before arrival because there is only powdered creamer in the lobby available and the shops in town only seem to sell chocolate milk. "Quaint"

Stayed two nights in Valcano Village and spent those two nights at Valcano Hale. Rooms were clean and staff very friendly and helpful. Be aware that this is a shared bathroom facility. Not sure how I missed that when I booked, however it did not present a problem. The facility is situated a short drive from the entrance to Valcano National Park which was very convenient, since we spent the majority of our time taking in the many sites and exhibits that the Park has to offer.

"This facility is absolutely fantastic."

I have stayed here for two nights and have enjoyed every minute of my stay. Staff is very pleasant to deal with the rooms are exceptionally clean and very interestingly laid out. All of the amenities seem to work well. I would give this small resort my highest rating. Those who post negative feedback about this resort are simply incorrect. Please bear in mind that this is not a Ritz-Carlton facility it is a small, unique rain forest experience. It's dark around here, there are a few bugs present and Volcano Hawaii is not a perfect place (it rains a lot). If you are seeking absolute perfection and a white sand beach then I suggest you travel down to Kailua Kona.

I lived in Chalet Kilauea for 1 night during my trip in Hawaii. The checking lobby is separate with the room, which is not that convenient. It was a warm house which contain several rooms. The room is kind of old and the same with the facilities. Love the star sky around the hotel
