Kauai is het oudste en liefelijkste eiland van de Hawaii eilandengroep. Zonnige stranden omzomen hier regenwouden en met pijnbomen beklede berghellingen.
"Clean affordable on the beach"
Stayed here a few years ago. It is still in great shape. They do a great job of keeping it clean and updated with paint, etc. location is on the beach so you can always hang out there or by their pool. Pool has a nice little grass thatched roof bar that is a fun place to meet fellow travelers and share experiences. Folks at the lobby are very friendly and helpful. There is a nice little fresh fish and plate lunch place on the property. Also a nice little coffee shop. You get coupons for free coffee from that shop and lemonade from the bar. Resort is located on the "middle" of the island, so only a quick drive to north or south side of island and all beaches. Beaches on this side of island (east) are kind of rough. Lydgate beach is a ten minute drive from here and offers a kid friendly beach that is protected from the big waves by a man made lava rock wall. One more thing lava lava restaurant is next door and it is a fun place right on the beach.
We really liked this hotel. You would never know that this is right off of the main road in Kapaa because it's in its own little resort area and feels like you are in such beautiful isolation. The rooms were clean and neat, and nicely decorated. It was very quiet. We stayed in an oceanfront room which we highly recommend. We enjoyed sitting out on the lanai each night looking out at the water. Only drawback is that the water is very rocky. We didn't mind though, as we would just rather sit on the beach anyway. The staff was very friendly and hospitable. There's a shopping center adjacent to the hotel and we also enjoyed being so close to the restaurant next door: the Hukilau Lanai.
"Decent, clean, good value."
Value is the reason to stay here. There are nicer places with better beaches and which are not so 'in town' but for the price and with a rental car, you can stay here and drive to the nicest beaches each day. The beach here is lovely, but the hotel recommends against swimming at the beach fronting the hotel -- strong current, jagged reef close to shore but hidden underwater, and no lifeguard. Instead they suggest swimming in their pool. That is also fine, and is 90% adults and peaceful and quiet until the haggard dad shows up with 3 rowdy kids who wouldn't stop running and screaming and jumping in the pool. It took the hotel about 20 minutes to ask the dad to control his kids, despite the glares from everyone to which the dad was oblivious. Manners are important, especially when traveling.
"Amazing and Relaxing"
Our room was the 3rd floor ocean view and worth every penny. The views were amazing, and the room was simple, clean, and airy. Great balcony overlooking the ocean, and a wonderful little kitchenette. Large comfortable bed and a clean, quiet pool area highlighted the experience.
"A Classic Hawaiian Get Away"
Okay this is what I always think of as a layer back Hawaiian Get Away. The hotel is not a big resort, but more of a retreat to relax. The hotel is set back off the highway behind the Coconut Marketplace. The beach is small and not really for swimming. The ocean was rough while we were there. But . . . sun bathing and just having a drink was worth it. The hotel is close to everything. The Lydgate Beach Park is only minutes away and is wonderful for snorkeling. The distance to the northern beaches and the southern beaches are only 30 minutes. The staff at the Islander on wonderful and made us feel at home. From the reception desk to the Sand Bar you will enjoy your stay.
