"Wonderful hotel and staff"
We spent four nights at the Onyx and at the end we felt like family: the staff was extraordinarily kind and friendly, the photos we found in our room a lovely touch, the evening reception a relaxing break after a long day of sightseeing. The hotel was quiet but centrally located for the North End, Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, Beacon Hill, the Aquarium, Charlestown, and Boston Common. We practically walked everywhere
"Overall a nice stay, with a couple of disappointing glitches."
We stayed one night at the Onyx during Thanksgiving week in Boston. The service was generally very friendly throughout our stay and the hotel was conveniently located near TD Garden, where we attended the Celtics-Spurs game. Compared to the other Kimpton properties we've stayed at throughout the years, this hotel seemed to be in need of a bit of freshening up througout the hotel. We experienced two noteworthy glitches during our stay. First, we never received the Kimpton Karma welcome amenity that was confirmed as part of our reservation at the hotel. Secondly (and more annoyingly), the front desk had no record of the prepaid rate that we booked for our stay and charged us a much higher rate. We had to wait for the front desk representative to try to figure out why the prepaid rate wasn't showing up in their system. As a long line was forming behind us, she manually issued a credit to our bill and assured us that their accounting department would sort out the confusion. Needless to say, these were not the type of unpleasant surprises that we usually see at Kimpton hotels. Not sure whether we will be returning for future visits, as we've had superior experiences at the Onyx's sister properties in Greater Boston - the Nine Zero and the Marlowe.
"A "Was it Worth It" experience"
The hotel is clean and modern. It is located in a great place if you are going to an event at TD Garden. It is also close to Faneuil Hall, but it is kind of intimidating to walk back at night if you are alone. I checked in early because I had a business commitment that morning. For that, I paid $60, which was seemed excessive, particularly in light of the fact that I was a also paying $47 per day to park the car. When you pre-book a trip on Trip Advisor, or some other site, you expect that you are not going to get hammered with a bill where the booking was prepaid. The staff was a mixed group, some nice, some not so nice. The restaurant does not really look like a restaurant. It is an area of the lobby that is cordoned off with a curtain of some kind. The bartender was very nice, but the food and drink were ridiculously expensive. My room was located next to the elevator. Convenient, but I was awakened at 4:30 AM by very loud, rude people outside my door.
"Wicked awesome stay"
We chose this hotel because it was close to the TD Garden and we were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. Great room. We we're invited to happy hour where there is wine tasting. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to see The Bruins.
"Excellent Location, with Comfy Pillows!"
I spent one night here in November 2016. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the location is fantastic (very close to the North Station on the T, and near Boston's North End), and it was the best night's sleep I've had in a hotel probably ever. The beds were firmer than your typical hotel bed (admittedly a personal preference, but a plus for me), but the pillows were super soft and comfy. As was the complimentary bathrobes, which were like wearing a giant sweatshirt. The decor was cool--my room had an outline of Sherlock Holmes made up of the text of all the Holmes stories, the water pressure was awesome, even on the 10th floor, and the amenities were especially yummy smelling. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, long or short stay, and I hope I have the chance to return!
