"Beware incidental charges and watch out for dodger drivers"
First off, I booked this room online and free wifi was part of the advertised packaged. Imagine my shock when I was told I had to pay a US$27 "incidental fee" per day for wifi, the fitness facilities (didn't use) and the business centre (didn't use either). That added up to more than $130 over five days. On the day I checked out I was asked if I wanted one of their black cars to take me to the airport (JFK). A normal cab would've cost US$60 plus tip, they said their cars would cost US$75 all in. Again, this wasn't the case. The driver (Migel) dropped me off at the airport and told me drive was US$82. Maybe there was a toll, so fine, I handed him a US$100 bill. He hands me US$8 and shows me his wallet, saying he has no more change. Then he shrugs like it's not his fault and he goes back into his car and drives off. So in total I paid US$92 to get to the airport, when it would cost me less had I taken a cab or an Uber or Lyft. Terrible. The room itself was nice, but parts of the bathroom did seem a little old. The electrical socket was loose so I ended up using the one in th room instead for the hairdryer. The location is convenient if you're keen on being in Times Square. I'd have taken issue with my "city view" room facing a brick wall, but given how noisy the streets can get it might have been a blessing in disguise. If not for the surprise incidental charge for wifi which was advertised as free and the poor experience with their driver, I'd have considered the stay uneventful. But now I would advise people to be aware of these issues before choosing Hotel Mela.
Ok. Customer service was great. They did go above and beyond to make you comfortable. But is over priced. I got a junior suite which ended up being smaller than the room I got at a red roof inn plus. I won't be staying again. Plus a resort fee for amenities I did not use. Plus was suppose to have included anyway. Location is great tho. A block or so from time square. Hope this helps
"Perfect location and price"
The location of this hotel is perfect! 10 min walk from Grand Central and 3 minute walk to Time Square. Nice clean boutique hotel with attached cafe. Convenient!!! Also room are very quiet and well appointed.
"Location Location Location.."
Amazing location. Smaller than small elevators and beds to match. Service was great and friendly staff but you would only stay there because its half a block from Times Square. We are tourists from Australia and we found that tap water just fine to drink.
"Perfect location, decent room"
Great location and services for the price. One issue I witnessed was the constant presence of people in the lobby waiting for their rooms well past check in time. Breakfast is not provided, and instead of eating at the hotel, I suggest walking towards 7th Avenue and eating at the bodega there. The room was small with a view of a brick wall as to be expected, but I was impressed with the bathroom. I think I was allergic to something though, perhaps the bed linens, as I broke out as soon as I got there and my face cleared right after leaving. Decent fitness facilities. Overall was a good experience.
