We arrived at the Tavern restaurant inside the Daniel Webster Inn excited to have discovered another place to dine. We quickly learned that the building was not original from colonial times having been rebuilt after a fire years ago. Unfortunately, the food was also anything but original. Inside the Tavern section of the restaurant, everything is cozy and dark colored pine. A flintlock musket and powderhorn hang above a large colonial style fireplace. So a lot of thought has been put into re-creating what was once Daniel Webster‘s favorite spot when hunting and fishing on the Cape. The food however is strictly tourist-like comfort food that leaves a lot to be desired. Do not expect fine dining. Wine by the glass lived up to the grapes we chose and the onion soup and lobster bisque were the best part of our meal. The crumb crusted cod was plentiful but bland. A small sirloin steak was rather tough and hard to cut with a faux style steak knife. It was served on top of boring mashed potatoes and thick undercooked asparagus. We abandoned the dessert custard after a two bites. I’m certain there must be regular fans of the restaurant who return for a satisfying meal. We probably won’t.
"Overnight group get-together"
My wife and I had a beautiful room--an unexpected upgrade room. The bed was extremely comfortable. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner meal in their dining room and an equally delicious breakfast. All staff were friendly and courteous. It was a wonderful stay.
I live on the Cape and had been to the Dan'l Webster for an occasional spa treatment and for drinks in the tavern. It had been a number of years since I have been. I received a gift certificate from my boyfriend for the spa. I suggested that we book a night and stay. Upon arrival, I was not greeted in a friendly manner. In fact, I had to initiate conversation and let the woman behind the desk know that I was checking in. I am not sure if my attire was offensive to her, but she seemed more interested in telling the couple behind me that she would be right with them. I was wearing jeans, sweatshirt, and sneakers. I had booked my spa appointment for that afternoon so I purposely dressed comfortably since I would be donning a spa robe shortly. I had to ask where to park in reference to my room. The room itself was extremely dated. The pillows were flat and left me with achy shoulders. My spa experience was the highlight of my stay. The spa staff were friendly, professional, and gracious. I had the himalayan salt wrap which was lovely. That evening, while waiting for my boyfriend to arrive, I met a friend for drinks and dinner in the tavern. The bar itself is not large and there were 2 bartenders working. We each ordered a glass of wine and my friend also ordered a seltzer water. My friend asked for the seltzer 3x and finally on the 4th time I asked the male bartender for the seltzer water and let him know that she had asked 3x prior. His response, "not that you're keeping track or anything" . Ummm, what? I was extremely put off by this. We ordered the calamari which came out burnt. We then ordered sandwiches (she got the lobster grilled cheese and I got the portobello sandwich). They were both good. All in all it was a disappointing experience and I would not return nor would I recommend it to others.
"Disappointed for the Cost"
Whirl Pool Tub was terrible, light on right side of King size Bed didn’t work , Tiny Shower Head ,Tv was on small size the room .I use to visit here Years ago in the 80 needless to say the Dinning Rooms , Pub all need a serious upgrade.Being in Sandwich you would think that the Parking lot would have been done Years ago as well as the entrance. The food and Service was excellent. For the Money I’ll be going to Chatham Bars Inn .
