"Clean, economical choice on beautiful Michigan Avenue along the Lake in the South Loop"
My husband had a conference and some meetings in the financial district in Chicago and we decided on this hotel based on reviews and price comparisons in that area. We used Booking.com and paid 148 a night - phenomenal price for that location. Pros: The rooms were clean (passed my thorough bedbug check with flying colors) and well appointed. The beds are comfortable and the way they make them is very interesting - top sheets only that encase comforters. Room has ample safe that you can fir several laptops and purses, etc. in. That's a big plus in my book. The views from our room were pretty nice - but you must request river view versus city view to get them. We got the two double bed option because it was cheaper. Also, make sure to ask for a room away from all elevators if you are a light sleeper. My advice is to ask for several sets of top sheets and to immediately throw those comforters off the bed as they literally throw them on the floor when they are making the bed (I watched). The hotel boasts a great gym indoor rooftop pool and rooftop deck with a gorgeous view - (if you want close proximity to the gym, roof, and pool ask for the 4th floor in the front facing Michigan Avenue, but remember you will also be right next to the pool and rooftop so not as much privacy and probably noise). There was nowhere in the hotel to get food, but great restaurants, coffee shops, etc. are just steps away. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. When we were ready to leave we requested a late check-out and then asked the hotel to store our luggage while we went sight-seeing some more as we had an evening flight home. One of the staff members ordered us a flat rate taxi that came to the hotel just as we arrived back and took us directly to O'Hare. Cons: No fan in the bathroom - WHY NOT??! Taking a shower or going to the bathroom presents a problem without a bathroom fan. Two tube heating/AC system that the hotel shuts off at night so if you are a hot sleeper - you are SCREWED. Of course you can always leave your screenless window open for some extra air. I opted to have the staff provide me with a fan which helped immensely. The rooms are quite stale smelling. Ask for the to leave a can of febreeze with you - (it's the heating system and lack of bathroom fan). Also, there are limited outlets for you to plug your electronics into and none by the bed. I did have to request luggage racks and bath mats because there were neither in the room. The tv guide boasts over a 100 premium channels - the first night we only were able to get 6. They had to come up and fix the TV and reprogram it. There is a refrigerator, but plan on only keeping drinks in there that you would like to keep slightly chilled - NO FOOD - you will get sick if you eat any food stored in those fridges as they are not cold enough. Do yourself a favor and request the following: a fan, air freshener, luggage racks, bath mats, extra sheets & a power strip.
"Stay here for the location"
Our room, the shower had spots of mold in it and about 20% of the ceiling had it. Not dangerous, just gross. The carpet should get steam cleaned and the desk was so loose that it could almost fall over on it's own. No microwave. The head of maintenance needs to go through this place room bye room and create a punch list. The workout facility is top notch. The pool is NOT heated so the only time you can use it is in the summer primarily. We thought the kids would have liked to use it after long days at the museums but it was ice cold in October. Restaurant onsite is closed. We always make the best of our hotels and are not in the room very much. Staff is also top notch and get a 10. The location is perfect because you are in the center of the attractions. I personally would not stay here again and would try something else.
"They try really hard..."
From arriving to checkout, service was great. Friendly doorman greets you and takes tour bags to the desk. There were a few, too. The desk folks were friendly and accommodating. We had an issue with the shower, within 3 minutes of calling, a friendly maintenance guy shows up and fixes things... Great service. They must be gearing up for a renno... No food, coffee or necessary shop, but looks like they had one. Guessing they will make some updates... Which will help as it's tired, and sits next to the larger and impersonal Hilton and a beautiful Blackstone/rennaisance. She needs some work! But, beds are fine, the pool/sauna/work out facilities are great and the location is good. Advice: get room on South side as North faces the loading dock of Hilton and its a bit noisy as trucvks and busses idle all evening and through the night.
"good place to stay in Chicago downtown..!!"
Nice place to stay in Chicago downtown. i stayed over weekend with my 6 month old and 3 year old kids. Room was not spacious as i expected, but overall i liked the stay . All my destinations to visit were nearby. And good Indian restaurant at walking distance. front desk was very welcoming and they provided microwave and crib in the room on request. Heating system is pretty old and it took me sometime on how to set the right temperature. hotel parking is expensive , so i parked nearby (.2 mi away) with multi entry exit at $16 per day.
Stayed here during the Trade show. Rooms were nice and the Staff was friendly and helpful. My particular room didn't have a very nice view, but that was ok with me. The pool was nice and the exercise room adequate to keep you work out in if you choose. Nice overlook outside of the pool. The prices were high because of the show, but I would stay here again if I go back for a vacation.
