"First time after heartbreak hotel..."
Nice hotel, with cleanliness and pretty interior. However, we are a little old school and prefer the Heartbreak Hotel, although I appreciate that it was a little 'outdated' we harboured friends there and felt sad of its disappearance. I'm sorry but the new hotel doesn't seem as homely but yet a money magnet. Very expensive and some staff were rude and ignorant. We found our stay comfortable until our check-out day, under the door of our room was a statement that read $0 balance due, so we thought check out would be easy, we were wrong! When we checked out the lady behind the desk said that we stilled owed the money for our room, although we had paid for the holiday a year in advance! We had to ring up our much trusted travel agent that we have used many times before and explained the situation, thankfully they dealt with the problem and I was assured by the hotel that no money would exit my account... but when landing back in the UK, I was very upset to find that the Guesthouse had taken more money out of my account! Thankfully the situation is solved but please be careful, this wasn't a nice end to our holiday. I am not sure who was at fault, the hotel or our travel agent but I am very reluctant to stay here again! We presented a pre-paid voucher on check-in to the hotel so why wasn't that documented? All in all I found it to be a bit of a rip off!
"Nice and new"
A nice addition to the whole Graceland experience. Newly built and well done. Rooms are new, good quality and clean. Two restaurants and two bar areas. Ample parking, but the charge $10 to self-park. WiFi was free and respectable. Pool seemed too small for the size of the hotel. Staff tried hard. Almost directly across the street from the attraction.
"Call me Scarlett O'Hara!"
I honestly felt like I stepped into the world of Gone with the Wind!!! What a site when you pull up to check in. The atmosphere is nothing less than inviting. Front check in was not rushed, personable so as to feel as you were the only guest there. Our rooms are just gorgeous. Accommodating and comfortable. I LOVED it!! I do have to say--at the EP Restaurant--Go see Alexiss (yes, with 2 s's) and Tavana. Tell them the San Diego sisters send you. They will treat you like royalty!! How is it, when you serve so many people day after day, night after night and go back in the next day and Miss Alexiss REMEMBERS your order!!! Amazing young lady. Tavana was the one to take care of us our 2nd night. We laughed with her and it was like she was part of our family. We almost took her home with us! Honestly--overall the hotel is amazing. The convenience of shuttles to Graceland is perfect. We ended up walking back because we didn't want to wait on the shuttle and it's really an easy walk. Again--the service at the hotel was amazing but Miss Tavana and Miss Alexiss made it PERFECTION!!!!! I would totally fly back from San Diego to have another drink, or 5, with these girls heading the bar. Thank you Guest House at Graceland---your EP restaurant staff are above and beyond perfection. And the food!!! WOW!!! BEST burger I've had in a long time!!!
"As an Elvis Tribute artist 30 years in live Entertainment..."
I've been to Graceland 15 times in the last 20 years and each time is more special than the time before. You can feel the spirit of Elvis Presley in both Graceland and the Guest House. My mother met Elvis in 54 and took some photos with him. I have one he signed on my mantle and I would not take anything for it. Mama raised me on Jesus, Elvis and cornbread and butter means (yes, in that order) and I look forward to my next stay at the Guest House in Memphis.
"Better and FRIENDLIER options for the money."
First of all, let me start by saying this was something I wanted to do for my father since he is one of the biggest Elvis fans I know. (My parents came to Graceland in 1974 for their honeymoon and were actually driven on the grounds by Elvis’ uncle!). The rooms were WAY overpriced for what you got. I could look past that part because, after all, it’s the nostalgia and the fun of it. We purchased a package that included Graceland tickets. After not initially receiving them at check in - and for that matter in adjoining rooms, one room was ready and one wasn’t - we had to go back and ask. We were handed two tickets for four people. Nobody could explain a thing to us. Just “not sure why, you only have twoâ€. I finally looked at the back of the tickets and there was one for each room, totaling four. We were told it was easier to take their shuttle service to Graceland than to drive, so we did. We were also told we had a specific time to be at the main shuttle that took us to the mansion. That wasn’t true at all. So we wasted precious time wandering around when we could have been at the mansion. We weren’t told the shuttle stopped running at 6pm. We called at 6:15 to inquire about the shuttle - sitting in 90 degree weather in the direct sun. Told they would call a driver and was hung up on twice. The others sitting with us sent someone from their party to walk to the hotel and get their van because they had been waiting since 5:30-5:40 for a shuttle to no avail. Then as the van pulled up, so did the shuttle. The driver was visibly irritated that we (and several others) did not realize the shuttle stopped running at 6pm. He was talking loudly to someone on the phone and complaining the whole time - even slammed his door shut when he got out of the vehicle. The group who had to get their van was trying to speak with the manager who questioned whether she was being honest - then made snide comments when the lady became frustrated and walked away - because she was getting nowhere with the manager. Completely unprofessional. Then my parents and I decide to get a drink from the bar. We waited for quite a while trying to even get anyone to acknowledge us. Not one acknowledgement of our presence - not a “we will be right with youâ€. Nothing. Meanwhile, people who were just walking up were getting waited on. We finally had to say something and pull up a chair right in front of them to get any help. Then we paid over $40 for two mixed drinks and a beer. There are PLENTY of nice and friendly hotels in downtown Memphis. My advice is, if you are going to spend the money to stay at The Guesthouse at Graceland, you save your time, money and frustration and go elsewhere. You’re better off banging your head against a brick wall.
