"10th year Anniversary"
Where do I begin. We arrived @ Royal Sonesta around 1am 8/11/18, greeted by the amazing "Alexandra" so awesome. We had an amazing room with views of the pool it was quite although we were on Bourbon Street. This was the far best hotel where you literally have a little bit of everything New Orleans has to offer. Desire restaurant was awesome. Playhouse Jazz club great & right on Bourbon. The Staff was friendly and helpful. Shout out to "Disco aka Mark. I will definitely be back thx for making this exciting for my hubby and I.
Pros: good room service Cons: loud, tacky guests who scream in the hallway when they home from drinking at 4am, a very loud and low-class pool scene. Blasting music all day long. Spend a little more and stay someplace nicer with a higher quality clientele.
"Lovely hotel. "
Loved this hotel right on bourbon street! We expected it to be noisy at night but our room overlooked the pool so we didn't hear anything. The rooms were lovely and very comfortable. The only negative aspect for us (and why we rated it 4 instead of 5) was the extremely rude member of staff on the check in desk when we first arrived who was not at all accommodating and understanding after our long journey and stranded car due to the floods! However our issue was quickly resolved by the manager who was very pleasant and welcoming and we enjoyed the rest of our stay.
"We don't stay anywhere else in New Orleans."
We always get a room with a balcony. It's great for relaxing and watching different types of people. The pool is small but nice and secluded and dining in house is excellent. There is nothing like the French Quarter year round.
My wife, 19-year old son and I just returned from a few days stay at the Royal Sonesta. This is our second time staying there, and we were equally impressed as we were the last time. We spent a few $ more to get a "deluxe courtyard" view room. There are only a few of these, which are all located on the fourth floor. The deluxe rooms have double-french doors that open onto a small common balcony that overlooks the pool, and the balcony is covered to give protection against the elements. All of the other courtyard view rooms overlook the pool, but do not have access to a balcony. We liked this because: a) it was very pleasant to pull out chairs when it was raining and be able to sit outside but still be protected; b) we had stayed in a balcony room last time that faced Bourbon Street, and although that was a great spot to have a vantage point of Bourbon Street, after a while the noise from the revelers gets a little old. These courtyard rooms are much quieter. If you want to be right in the middle of the action in the French Quarter, then this is the place to be. It is centrally located, beautifully decorated, and the staff just couldn't be friendlier or more helpful...from the front desk, to the concierge, to the bell captains, to the service staff. We enjoyed music and drinks in the Jazz Club downstairs one night...a nice, plush, relaxed atmosphere. And we had dinner one night in their seafood restaurant that is attached to the building. My son had chicken and waffles, I had the BBQ shrimp, and my wife had etoufee, all of which were excellent. The only negative is that Bourbon Street is being torn up right now, block by block, in order to remediate the infrastructure prior to their 300th anniversary celebrations next year. At this point, they have gotten to the front of the hotel, so the street is literally torn up and fenced off with just the sidewalk accessible. Might be a bit of a disappointment to pay extra for a Bourbon Street-facing room as a result, but this certainly doesn't reflect negatively on the Sonesta, and is only temporary...but be aware of this. From the location, to the ambiance, to the service, we just couldn't have asked for a better experience, and will definitely stay here again when we come back to visit the Big Easy next time!
