"Comfortable, spacious rooms"
Our room was very spacious and new in a side building. There was a brand new laundry there as well, we didn't have to go to the main building. This alone, was a great comfort factor as well! Dinner was truly excellent, breakfast was not bad, either. Art, the restaurant manager is very welcoming and is doing a great job at accommodating everybody even when you'd think that the place is bursting! We were happy to see him every evening! Unfortunately the new pools and gym had not been opened during our stay yet, but they look great. The present gym and Jacuzzi are rather a sad sight... A further negative experience was the unfriendly lady at the reception, who made us feel as if we had personally invaded and occupied the land of her ancestors in the 19th century. All in all, it's a great place to stay at while visiting Grand Canyon.
"Good price near the Grand Canyon"
This hotel was as near to the south rim of the Grand Canyon as you can get without going into the Village, which costs money and has pricier hotel rooms. We stayed for one night at a very good price. The room was large and clean, but its style was definitely not modern. Definitely a good value for the price. The hotel also had an arcade and bowling alley, which we didn't use, but was a nice touch as there is not much to do in the area after it gets dark.
"Pretty fancy for a Best Western"
We stayed here because we could not get into anything in the Park itself and this hotel is not that far from the gates. We had booked for two nights but had to leave a day early. We appreciated that the hotel allowed us to cancel the second night with so little notice. The hotel is much larger and more upscale than other Best Westerns where we have stayed. There are two choices for dining. We ate at the family restaurant, and I cannot recommend it. The food was pretty mediocre, but at least it was inexpensive. The rooms were large and clean. The staff in the hotel and restaurant were courteous and friendly. We did not need travel advise, but I overheard it being given to other travelers.
Stayed for just one night whilst visiting the Canyon from Vegas. Great location just a short drive from the National Park and if you don't want to drive the free shuttle bus stops right outside the hotel. There is a fridge and microwave in the room and as we had eaten out every night of our trip it was nice to buy supplies at the supermarket and make use of it. The pool was closed whilst we were there as building work was going on but we heard no noise from that.
"A Good Option Among Limited Choices"
I've been to the south rim of the Grand Canyon six times, and I've stayed in the park and in Tusayan. To be blunt, you're here for the Canyon and the outdoor activities, so you kind of have to suck it up and make do with limited choices both outside and inside the park. The Best Western Premier is one of the nicer hotels outside the park. It has several restaurants on-site and other conveniences, like a pool (which was closed while we were there), and bowling. (A good other local restaurant is Plaza Bonita, about 3 blocks away.) The hotel has grown over time, so some of the buildings are newer than others; if possible get one of the newer buildings. You might need to walk 50 feet to cross the parking lot to get to the restaurant, but I think the newer building are more up-to-date. Checkin was quick; the room clean and relatively new. Nice hot shower. Good selection of TV channels. Room had a tub and a single sink, but bathroom area had adequate counter space. Parking is free. The price is relative high, but this is a tight market. Gas is around 50% above what you pay in Flagstaff and the same applies most of the year for hotel rooms, The prices in the park are comparable, so if you can book far enough in advance you might want to try the El Tovar. The quality and amenities of the lodging in the park have a HUGE range, from ancient (historic?) cabins with heaters that will struggle on cold nights, to the El Tovar, which is truly an historic hotel (but still dated)(see separate review for the El Tovar). Enjoy the Canyon - it is amazing!
