"Location is key"
Maswik is on the west end of the town, within walking distance to Bright Angel trail. Blue bus stops right in front to take you to the visitors center where you can hop on the Orange bus for South Kaibab. Rooms are typical roadside motel style. Water was hot and plenty of water pressure. Room heat controlled by a rotary thermostat. No air conditioning, only 2 fans in the room. No wifi in the South lodges, pay extra for North rooms if constant connectivity is important. They have minifridge and Keurig machines (!), but no microwave. Bathroom toiletries are those annoying pumps, so bring your loofa for the liquid soap dispenser in the shower. At least they smell great (green tea and lemongrass). All in all, a comfortable sleep within the park. Can't beat the convenience of easily catching sunrise and sunset along the canyon.
"Comfortable in good location, good food options"
Stayed here for 1 night, room in the Aspen building. I didn't expect 5-star accommodation in this national park location, but actually it was spacious and comfortable with everything I needed - including a coffee pod machine in the room. Location is great, it's only a 5 minute walk to the rim with some nice photo ops as you cross the railway tracks, and then you'll be nearby to most of the facilities, other lodges and gift shops (including one that sells a mix of genuine and replica Native American artefacts). You can also get the frequent, free shuttle buses to the other end of the village or to photogenic spots along the rim trail. Food isn't amazing by international standards, but there are plenty of options and enough space. The pizza pub is very good but I picked the wrong time to come and had to line up for 20 minutes to place my order with a server who didn't seem at all hurried. Pizzas are enormous (it would need 3 people to eat one) so as a solo traveller I had to order by the slice which limits selection. It was tasty though, and the beer selection was good. I actually got this accommodation as part of the overnight package out of Las Vegas from the Grand Canyon Tour Company. If doing one of their tours, the overnight option is well worth the money - it's crazy to see so many people doing a 14 hour day with only 2 hours of that on the rim trail. I had 26 hours at the village, obviously including sleeping and eating time, but still meant I could see the sunrise and enjoy the place with fewer tourists. WiFi was a bit flaky sometimes, but it was free and a pleasant surprise to find my details also worked when having lunch and sheltering from the snow at the pleasant El Tovar lodge along the rim, so I'll forgive the flakiness. Finally, thanks to the very friendly and helpful stuff. A good place to stay, highly recommended.
"Grand Canyon Village"
The Maswik Lodge is in an excellent location for access to the Grand Canyon and its trails. It is located within a short walking distance to the GC Village and to the Rim Trail skirting the Canyon and its many fabulous views. The rooms are spacious, clean and include complementary coffee and tea. The food at the cafeteria is good with lots of variety.
The cabin was rustic but less so than we had anticipated. It was roomy and had been updated. The location was perfect. A short walk to the lodge where the cafeteria and pizza restaurant were located. Large selection of food choices. Also, an easy walk to the canyon rim and the spot to catch the various buses that tour the canyon rim. We encountered numerous deer around the cabins and also saw rabbits, much to my grandson's delight. We recommend it as an affordable location conveniently located.
"Huge property with spread out rooms"
This facility is very much what you expect to find in state or national parks. It is clean and functional. The front desk staff is very helpful. Don't be surprised by the 3 pm check in time - and since all the visitors here expect to do the same things at the same times don't expect to have the same easy early check in you find in truly commercial establishments. Elderly folks should be sure to request rooms close to the main building.
