For what one pays, for the location, it is hard to beat. Was here over this past weekend. Paid $125 for a king. Everything that we needed. Was fairly clean, close to the main building for food, and close enough to the canyon rim for some hiking. Roughly half as much as the other hotels in the area. The food court was standard mass produced food for decent prices. Cafeteria style. I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to stay at the rim without it being a bank-busting experience.
We wanted to be as close to the Canyon so we didn't have to drive back and forth after sunset or before sunrise. I was skeptical due to the price and some pictures but booked it anyway. What a wonderful place! The staff is genuinely friendly and accommodating. The room was clean, nothing new but beds were comfortable and they give you enough pillows. They also make sure to keep the outside lights to a minimum so you can enjoy the stars. The lighting issue could be a positive or negative but I love seeing the stars so I found it positive. The negatives: the food/cafeteria was horrible. It was worse than kids lunchroom food. They do have a pizza place but we didn't want pizza. I tried to get reservations at El Tovar but they wouldn't answer the phone and just kept going to voicemail. Even the front desk couldn't get ahold of them. They also have minimal hot water in the shower. After so much hiking and looking, I was looking forward to a longer shower. I think I maybe got 5 minutes of decent water. The last negative would be signage for where to check in. Especially in the dark, we drove around for close to 10 minutes before I just got out and started asking people. This is definitely a stay again kind of place. I know we will again.
"Budget Motel Quality Rooms"
** (budget motel quality) ~$100 per night (two double beds) - excludes park entrance fee for car of $30 good up to 7d One weekend night Note: trip is during off-peak season Drove from Phoenix for an overnight trip to the Grand Canyon. Wanted a quick and simple preliminary / preview trip to see this natural wonder. Opted for cheaper / more casual accommodation on this visit. Maswik Lodge was recommended by local who had visited this attraction in numerous occasions. Upgrade for larger room with balcony would have been additional $50 per night. Room was clean with simple amenities. Television is much older model with basic cable and no ppv options. The room has basic furnishings (table and two chairs) and limited lighting. Wifi in the main lodge only (no in room internet). Cell signal is strong. Several fans, but no a/c, only heating (keep in mind weather here is much cooler than Phoenix). Outdoor ice machine on ground floor. Location is very good, close to the canyon with adequate parking. A good choice balancing comfort, convenience and price.
This hotel is a great location in Grand Canyon National Park. Room had a musty smell and damp floor outside the bathroom area. It was very convenient to eating places and short walk to view Grand Canyon. Overall, very disappointed in room and its price for what you got. Basically paid for location.
"Not a good value"
Spent the night at Maswik Lodge, located in the Village section of the park. The location is great, a short walk from the hotels and restaurants on the east side of the park, also plenty of parking. And the place is relatively cheap by park standards. The facilities were not so great. The rooms were a good size for a motel, that's really what the place is, Motel 6 level place in the park. And like older motel rooms throughout our great land, this one has queen beds that are kinda hard, a noisy heating system, old tube TV, molded tub/shower and thin bath towels. Oh, and there's no internet in any of the south Maswik rooms. There's a wifi spot (yes, spot) in the Maswik lodge. There's also no free breakfast. The Maswik lodge does have a food area with burger, pizza, sandwich areas, etc., the food is lackluster. Bottom line, if you want to be in park lodging (and it is definitely more convenient), Maswik seems like one they forgot to ever upgrade. If you don't mind driving 5 miles, there are lots of motels in Tusayan that are way more upscale and less money.
