Mammoth Lakes (7000 inwoners) ligt in het oosten van Californie, temidden van een warmwaterbronnengebied. De plaats wordt omringd door bergen.
The location was beautiful, mountain topped with snow. However, the disappointing point was the gondolas were not in functional season, apparently. Room was okay. We did get change in room when asked as the allocated one was in a different block and did seem secluded. And they do have a Resort fee. Room service was a little laid back. The dine in restaurant was limited in food options and overly priced. There are many other options on a drive of 3 miles to town. Since, it gets deep dark in the woods, drive is a little scary at night. But in the morning, its equally beautiful. If the mountain activities were on, this could be a great stay.
The lobby is very nice. The hallway to the room was horrible. I told my husband, if the room is like the hall, I'm leaving. Room was okay. Clean, but needs updating. I must say it was quiet. Location is great. We were there offseason, so it was not too busy.
"This place is a terrible tourist trap! STAY ELSEWHERE"
This hotel has an excellent location and lures you with lovely images of cozy fireplace, beautiful rooms and lovely views from your window. We were very much looking forward to a weekend here and hopefully many come backs. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. We got checked in by a staff member who was not very knowledgeable. He rushed us to get the check in over with and could not answer any questions related to the hotel. The room was in an UGLY slightly remodeled motel building, nothing like we imagined (Yodler house). After about 30min after we entered our room #801, we heard a LOUD rattling NOISE, the room was SHAKING and we felt like on an airplane taking off or thought it could be a brief earthquake. Unfortunately, the noise and rattling did not stop for half an hour. And after a brief break was back on again. We had that NOISE for the ENTIRE NIGHT with short breaks! This was most likely a noise coming from the neighboring BOILER room. Not sure whether it was malfunctioning or a usual noise. On top of that the room was insanely HOT, even though the heating was off and there was not AC to cool the room down, we could only help a little with opening the windows. We went to speak and called the staff numerous times about this problem. As it was driving us insane and we could not sleep. They told us they could try to fix it and it would be over in an hour. It was not, and they did not offer us another room or anything for this inconvenience. They did not even feel particularly sorry. I have traveled a lot around the US and have NEVER experienced such UNRESPONSIVE and NOT CARING staff. This attitude together with the fact that most room rates were non-refundable, made us feel like this place is just a bad tourist trap. Mammoth Lakes is at a beautiful location, but stay elsewhere, save yourself the disappointment. There is great marketing and bad reality at this hotel.
"Happy Spontaneous Decision"
Generally I like to plan everything out on our trips. However this particular trip was long and I left the last few days open to freeform for our destination. We came out of the Tioga Pass from Yosemite and stopped for lunch at the Mobil station - which everyone does apparently. We then identified Mammoth Lakes as a good place to find lodging. I called Mammoth Mountain Inn and they had availability. It was beautiful. A ski lodge on top of the mountain. Dena, the manager checked us in and since it is off season upgraded us to a loft room overlooking the mountain. Dena also told us it was peak foliage season there and gave us maps to see the colors. The beds were comfortable and the room and view were fabulous. Everyone on staff was very friendly and accommodating. They even have a shuttle that runs at night into the village. We loved it so much we decided to stay another night then drive back to Vegas for our flight. It was the peaceful place we needed after a jam-packed 2 week itinerary. We will always have happy memories of finding a cool place with no prior planning.
"Front desk staff late at night was amazing"
We came in late and had booked online through a third party site. We were traveling with another family and with small kids. Shannon and Brook at the front desk made everything right in minutes and had us both in adjacent rooms. Mammoth in the Fall is amazing!
