"Below expectations, yet acceptable."
My first impression started with having to walk through a number of people from air China smoking by the front door and the smell tarnished the experience. Walking in the lobby, it was extremely crowded, but the staff was helpful to direct me to a fast line as they delt with the air line customers. The people at the front desk were helpful and welcoming. Next stop the room, the room was clean and the look was what you would expect from a older style hotel. I tried to stop by the gym to lift free weights for my physio exercices but their was only cardio equipements. I used the room service for dinner twice and the food was correct, yet the food tray spent 48 hours by my door before someone picked it up. Overall I am IHG fan, so I may give another shot at this hotel next time I'm in that area of SFO but my experience was below what I came to expect from similar hotel in the IHG family.
I stayed here overnight recently on a business trip and was very disappointed. I booked a room with a king size bed and couch and arrived to the hotel exhausted after a long flight. I was told that they were oversold and the only room they had was one with a double bed right next to the ice machine with a handicap shower. The room was loud and taking a shower the next morning was nearly impossible since my only option was using a handheld shower and the water temp kept changing. Dinner at the restaurant in the hotel was also disappointing and overpriced although the French fries were pretty good. Overall, not a great experience.
Fast check in, very clean, nicer than you would expect of a holiday Inn, we were delighted with our room and with the staff. Great view from our room. The facilities were top notch. The location is fantastic too.
"Really good customer service!"
Hi, I booked 9 rooms for my colleagues in Holiday Inn Civic Center for the days of GDC. The reviews my colleagues gave were different, from "really nice hotel, liked everything" to "it was more like 3* hotel to be honest". I will sum up some common points: Negative experience: - the breakfast wasn't as good as expected, lots of Chinese dishes, no pancakes, same from day to day. - not all stuff spoke English: waiters and cleaners had problems understanding the guests. - elevators didn't work sometimes. Positive experience: - hotel stuff made an upgrade for our boss, gave him nice room on the upper floor with 1 bed instead of 2 separate - this was really nice! - toiletries in the bathroom - good - REALLY good customer service! I would like to personally thank Sandra Reyes, whom I spent a lot of time on the phone with, as our booking was complicated and many changes were made, she was really helpful and efficient - all our requests were satisfied. Also I would like to thank Sarah Huang, who gave me some helpful advises about the restaurants around and helped with the airport transfer.
"Expected little and received a lot!"
I have to say, I am used to staying at 4-5 star properties, but watching the budget this weekend, and was very hesitant at booking the Holiday Inn Civic Center. I usually stay at the Intercontinental on Howard, which is also part of IHG, but further away than I needed to be. Knowing San Francisco from living there for 10 years in the '90's and returning a number of times each year since, I know the area and always disliked it. But in this case, I was pleasantly surprised for a number of reasons. This area is between the Tenderloin and Mission and is considered SOMA. The homeless issue isn't nearly as bad here are closer to Union Square, as they tend to prey on tourists there. It's walkable to SOMA nightlife and I consider it safe. I walked in surprised by the gas fireplace and the ample lobby area. They had what seemed like a nice breakfast/dining room. Wifi is included in rate. The room was clean and made up daily. The ice machine down the hall worked well, elevators were pretty quick. This hotel does offer parking which in San Francisco is a huge PLUS. The rooms are pretty basic, the beds are pretty good, but one thing is the walls aren't too thick. You can hear a lot in the hall way going on, especially early in the morning when housekeeping comes around. Other than that, I was very pleasantly surprised. I'll be rebooking for July and September when I return.
