This was our first visit to San Francisco and noticed that there was a big difference in rates between various zones in the city. Also, we had no idea where to stay for our 5- night stay, so we were a bit nervous. So, on the downside: the hotel, with no grounds of its own, doesn't have a particular 'holiday' feel about it, and probably isn't great for kids. It is more suited to business stay-overs, merging into the surrounding commercial area seamlessly. The only complaint I have about the rooms is that they chose to seal their sliding doors, meaning no natural ventilation, and no access to our balcony! Meals are predictably very expensive: $17 for continental breakfast! On the upside: staff from the desk staff to cleaning staff are very polite and helpful indeed. What a pleasure dealing with people who patiently enhance my stay. The rooms are well appointed, large, spotless and fresh!! Just what I look for in my hotel. For a tourist, however, the biggest advantage was staying close to Market Street - the arterial main road which is serviced by the MUNI, and runs all the way to the Ferry Building, passing key points and attractions (e.g. Powell-Hyde cable car terminus). Also, with plenty of eateries and supermarket options surrounding us, and having purchased a 3-day MUNI pass, we were anywhere within a few short minutes.
"Clean and comfortable!"
Stayed in SF for a big conference at the Moscone Center. This hotel is within walking distance of the MC, although there are closer hotels (and at night we were not particularly fancying walking down Market Street, so we took taxis). Has everything you may need, compared to considerably more expensive hotels in the area, including a restaurant (with breakfast buffet), fitness suite (couple of treadmills & stationary bikes), a pool (outdoor, it was January so I couldn't check that out) and all the usual hotel specs. Room was clean, shower was quite powerful, beds were comfy. View was good too (we were on the 8th floor, lower floors may not have that!). Staff was very friendly and helpful!
Upon first look the room was nice. However we complained 3x about someone smoking (this is a non smoking hotel). Our room was near the stair well so we assume someone was smoking out there but the smell seeped into our room. They did offer us another room but who wants to change rooms after unpacking two heavy suitcases? Another odd thing, I know the state of CA is about conservation but this was the only hotel of several that we stayed in in CA that did not have trash bags in the trash cans- but they do have a plastic bag in their ice bin and for laundry. Room service food was mediocre and the delivery fee plus service % are not worth the mediocre food or service. The man who delivered our food looked all over our room as he dropped off the food- it was somewhat uncomfortable having someone scope out our room like that. The front desk also seemed bothered when we asked for a taxi to be called. Not impressed!
"Clean, quiet hotel near symphony hall and opera"
Clean, quiet, comfortable room in well-maintained hotel just off Market Street. The staff is friendly and helpful. The beds are comfortable. Security is very good. The hotel is only four or five blocks from the Davies Symphony Hall, so it was an easy and convenient walk.
I stay in a lot of hotels so know they are not Always what them seem when you check out the bathrooms. This hotel was very very clean! And the front desk staff is very accommodating. We had a mix up in our reservations. (My bosses fault, not the hotels) and they were happy to help us sort it out. Will be back!
