"Nice hotel, bad location "
Visited this hotel for two nights before leaving on a cruise. The hotel was clean, comfortable and the staff was good. However the location was filled with mentally ill folks (literally having arguments with imaginary people as they walked down the street) and no they weren't talking on a phone with ear buds. Did not feel safe walking around especially at night. Had to take Uber to get to the embarcadero or fishermans wharf. The rest of our party cancelled their reservation for when we returned from the cruise and booked a hotel near fishermans wharf. It may cost a little more but the ability to walk outside your hotel to the tourist areas was well worth it. Would not not recommend if you are a tourist visiting the city.
"Staying in 'Frisco"
Pros: Centrally located. Easy access to public transportation. Convenient and easy to use. Drivers were very pleasant. Front desk people and staff were also very nice and helpful. Room was typical top notch Holiday Inn. Cons: Parking was $42/day for a car that just sat there. Unless you are going out of town, you won't need the car. Public transportation will get you around. Breakfast buffet was a little pricey but good. Room was nice except that the only view I had was of a wall from the building next to us. Also, there's a big problem with homeless people. It's not the hotel's problem. More of the city's problem. They don't bother you at all but you have to walk thru them to get to the main street.
"The room was nice "
First the good. The room was nice. It was clean with a large window, table and chairs. The beds are full size NOT queen (we measured) but clean, form and passed the bedbug check. The hotel is very secure, you must have your room key to get anywhere other than the main lobby. It is very convenient to the trolly line, the Orpheum, and many businesses. The not so good, typical urban San Francisco-neighborhood. A fair amount of homeless. Drug use, sleeping and urination on the streets. There is some major road construction going on which complicated driving and public transport catching. The horrible. The staff at the hotel were rude and lazy. Since almost everyone I encounter, was an Asian national. There may have been a bit of culture clash, but they were downright rude to the children in my group and dismissive of our needs. The restaurant buffet was nice, but not free. They served many interesting offerings but I assume most likely what the international travelers expect for breakfast. Parking was $40, which was $15 more than everywhere else we encountered. I’m sure because it is geared towards business travelers, the companies just pay it so they can ask for more, but beware family or individual travelers.
"Not that impressed"
First, the good. The staff was wonderful, from desk to housekeeping, and the food was good. However, the floor of the hallway on our floor was not cleaned the full four days we were there. It’s not in the best neighborhood, and there were always homeless around on the sidewalk (although I understand that’s an issue all over San Francisco). It’s a little scary walking around once it’s dark. Not sure we’ll stay here again.
"Convenient to courts, bad neighborhood"
This hotel is okay, pretty expensive ($335) but average for SF hotels. I selected it because of its proximity to the Civic Center and the courts, a five-minute walk away. It is also next to BART. It is located in a bad neighborhood, and there is construction outside. I arrived at 11:30 p.m., and there were numerous homeless persons on my walk from BART. The room itself was clean and the newly remodeled bathroom was nice. But the temperature control did not work. I could not raise the temperature of the room. The best thing about this hotel is the breakfast, which is plentiful and varied, including Chinese selections of congee and fried rice. There were numerous persons from Chinese and Korean tour groups in the hotel. The fitness center is small and pathetic -- a few treadmills and elliptical machines, no weights. I will stay somewhere else next time in the City.
