"Bad area, average service and facilities"
The hotel is unfortunately located in a bad area of the city and the walk to and from it at night time is not pleasant and I recommend to get an Uber/Lyft once it starts to get dark. It is very easy to reach the hotel from the BART station at Civic Center. The hotel itself is fine and the room was spacious and clean. Some modernization would be nice and there is no dedicated work area for business travelers. The gym has modern treadmills and Stair Steppers but the Bike did not work and there is also no other equipment. The hotel does not provide free bottled water as is common in most other hotels in the Bay area. Wifi services were good and stable. Staff seemed friendly. Reception could have been more helpful. Other than breakfast I had no food at this hotel. The breakfast buffet options were decent but pricey. The room rates were very high too but this was probably due to Oracle Open World taking place during the travel period. Mainly due to the surrounding area I would not book this hotel again but if that was not a factor, I would consider it again
"Awesome as always 2nd time stay"
We were allowed in early and we were so tired it was wonderful. Room service is great, ( I know room service in San Francisco?) My daughter was auditioning for Rutgers and we just wanted to rest. The food is so good and the Margaritas/Gold yum yum.
"Bad service, I do not recommend these hotel"
I never had such a bad service of the one I had in these hotel from the receptionist Jeremmy . I am sorry but after staying in these hotel I will never came back ! Sorry! I been in over 80 hotels these year but never been do unconfortable!
"Central location in a dodgy area, big rooms"
The hotel is located right off Market street, steps from Civic Center station. You’ll reach the airport in 25 minutes using BART. However, the area is full of homeless people who might appear scary to the first time visitor. Nevertheless, the homeless aren’t dangerous and apart from a few asking for change, won’t bother you. The staff was friendly, wifi was free, reliable and fast, the room was big, clean and contained everything you’d expect. The breakfast buffet, while a bit expensive, was a positive surprise: fresh fruit, cheeses, cold cuts, breads, yoghurt, cereal, juices, bakery items and even some Chinese items, probably to cater for the Chinese airline crews based at the hotel. It’s a large hotel so at times the lobby and reception area will be busy, but we didn’t need to wait long for elevators etc. I’d recommend the Holiday Inn Civic Center as a solid choice for someone who doesn’t expect luxuries but wants a large room for a reasonable price.
"Enough is enough"
The hotel itself, despite being located in a questionable part of town, was fine--rooms were a little dated and tired with noise and restaurant/kitchen smells coming through the vents, but they did the job. The staff (both hotel and IHG office), however, were appalling. They first refused to honor IHG's best price guarantee. Over a period of approximately two weeks, multiple excuses given (some multiple times) in their concerted search to say 'no'. * Excuse: I didn't submit my claim on time. Fact: I did, but the redirection and proper form was delayed due to the staff's initial response being "I'm confused" and taking up unnecessary time. * Excuse: They didn't accept screen shot proof of a lower price elsewhere. Fact: I provided a full PDF, not a screen shot. * Excuse: They couldn't replicate the lower price. Fact: They waited four days before attempting to verify, and hotel prices are of course going to increase as the stay date approaches. * Excuse: My lower price was for August 28. Fact: My lower price was SEARCHED on August 28 FOR the exact same dates as my stay in September. * Excuse: I booked though Kayak. Fact: I actually booked directly with IHG as required and provided proof of this. * Fact: I provided proof of all of the above multiple times. Excuse: "We don't see this as an important factor." In my less restrained moments, I can only conclude based on this that Holiday Inn and IHG sought to and succeeded in cheating one of its customers, and an Elite Gold one at that. On top of this, the reception staff who checked us in (judging by the fact that he wore a suit while the others all wore uniform T-shirts, I imagine he was the manager) did everything he was supposed to but was curt and robotic in doing so. Not a smile or shred of warmth anywhere. This trend continued during the stay. My husband and I one morning forgot our key card in our room. On seeking assistance from reception, the staff first seemed not to understand and then refused to help because my ID was in our room along with the key we forgot. Eventually, she saw reason and agreed to issue a key but only if we were escorted to our room by security. In principle OK, but again, the reception staff was rude and curt in doing so. Enforcing policy is one thing; treating guests like criminals is another. Perhaps knowing all of this would result in negative feedback, none of the usual satisfaction surveys (I normally one on checkout and one in my e-mail with three reminders for the second) were forthcoming. The message I take from this is essentially, "We're dishonest, we'll treat you badly, and we don't want to know about it." Terrible experience! Never staying at an IHG hotel again.
