"Brilliant five night stay"
Me and my husband stayed here at the beginning of October for the start of our honeymoon! The hotel was fully booked so we couldnt get an upgrade however the room that we did have was perfect. We were at the back of the hotel overlooking a courtyard. There was some building work going on during the day during business hours however the room was really quiet from 6pm onwards. As we were out sight seeing all day this was perfect. The bed was really comfy, room a great size and shower very good. Staff at reception always polite and helpful and they booked us the hotel car to SFO for $50 flat rate. Reasonable enough we thought. The location of the hotel can not be beat, we found it very central. It is close to the tenderloin but if you come out turn left and walk down Sutter you will be perfectly safe and be in the centre of union square in 5-10 minutes max. Lori's diner down Sutter street opposite wallgreens was a really nice place for breakfast. Sears on Union Square was great for dinner as was Leatherneck restaurant if you want a lovely steakhouse! We would not hesitate in booking hotel vertigo again if and when we come back to San Fran! Thanks for a great stay!
"Eclectic and fun, but a little pricey."
Area a tiny bit scary as off the main beaten path, but the venue itself is phenomenal for Classic Movie buffs! Hotel Vertigo is kitschy and cool! The lobby is something to see in itself. Couple of complaints, it was 90 degrees outside and no A/C. Also, no ice as exercise room was under construction and unfortunately, the construction workers started early. Wouldn't trade for the eclectic experience, but I wish for $400+ per night had been a bit more and will try a different boutique hotel on next trip to San Francisco.
Loved the quirky character of the hotel, they've done a good job at updating it yet still leaving some of the unique characteristics of an older building. Lobby is great! Good location in the city, a one very good coffee shop just a few doors down on the corner, a good Italian place about 2 blocks away, easy walk to Chinatown, Union Square. ONly complaint was we were there during a rare heat wave and the room didn't seem to have AC and only one window opened. Of course heat is normally not a problem in SF, and it wasn't unbearable, but more ventilation would have been nice.
"A very pleasant surprise"
Located in a convenient location. We walked to china town and fishermans wharf from here. On a bus route and a close walk to the cable car. Nice quirky little coffee shops and cafes very nearby as well as convenience stores. Free use of computer and printer and free coffees and tea all available in the lobby. The nicest most helpful staff. Gregory could not have been more helpful with directions, using the printer and has great taste in music. We loved our stay there.
"Great hotel in a great location"
Stayed here for 4 nights. Had 2 rooms for my family of 5. Easy walk to Union Square one way and a couple of blocks the other way to buses to Fisherman's Wharf and Sausalito. We took our time and walked to Lombard St and Fisherman's Wharf, prob took half hour. Staff were great, friendly and helpful. Free morning tea and coffee in reception area very handy. Rooms were clean, had everything you need. Wifi great and charging station bonus to charge phones and ipads. Plenty of food options nearby and laundromat a few doors down. My only complaint was one room was very stuffy and couldn't open the window and there was no air conditioning. We happened to be staying when SF had a few 32c days and the room was very hot. Apart from that, I highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.
