"Historic Yet Modern!"
The Mariner King is centrally located & within easy walking distance of shops & restaurants in the scenic town of Lunenburg. Monika in reception was very welcoming & helpful. We are especially appreciative that when we inadvertently left our iPad behind, she contacted us & had it sent back to Ontario! The inn is made up of the very picturesque main building & two annex buildings. We stayed in the family room in the Cranberry suites. This building has an elevator. The room was perfect for us with two large modern, well appointed bedrooms (with fireplaces) and a large bathroom with a walk in shower. The breakfast room is quaint & pretty, almost sunroom like. Breakfast was European style with meats & cheeses & wonderful smoked salmon as well as breads & fresh preserves. We did not find parking on the street a problem. Our stay here definitely exceded our expectations & we would definitely recommend it!
"Brightly coloured elegance"
We were in the bright green building a few properties away from the main building. After difficulty in finding a parking space (free parking after 5pm until 10am next day) we were quite stressed when we arrived at Reception to find that we were not in the main building. The green building only has 3 rooms above a shop. Once we got over all the stairs we had to negotiate we were pleased with our room 301 which was a double window corner room. Very comfortable bed and good en-suite. Weather was good for the 2 nights we were there which was lucky as we had to get to the main building for our buffet breakfast. Lots to choose from and set us up for the day. Lots of restaurants to try.
"Modern inn inside old shell"
We stayed here in the pink house across the street from the blue inn called the Mariner King Inn. Monika in reception was quite friendly and very helpful. She explained that we would only come into the blue building for breakfast, to use the exercise room or to do some laundry. We would sleep in the pink building across the street. What a wonderful surprise that was: a totally modern renovation inside the original, old shell. We had the suite of two separate bedrooms, each with a fireplace, TV and wardrobe and a shared bathroom in between. The décor was nautical, with light wood touches. Beds were very comfortable; the rooms were spotlessly clean and fresh. After a good night's sleep in these quiet rooms, we returned to the blue building's breakfast room. We chose to enjoy a hearty cold breakfast in the glassed-in room. Food and drink choices were plentiful, from hard-boiled eggs to smoked salmon, from several kinds of juice to coffee or tea. The Lunenburg waterfront is just a few steps away, as are shops and restaurants. We are happy to recommend this inn.
"Great location "
My husband and I stayed here for the last night of our holiday and were very pleased. The inn has an historic feel but has all the modern conveniences and even has a business centre. We had a deluxe room in the main building and although we had to wait 15 minutes or so as everyone was arriving at once it was in very pleasant surroundings. We did have a steep staircase as you would expect in an old building but the receptionist kindly carried one up herself for us. The inn is in a great location just up from the waterfront with great restaurants and I recommend the coffee shop on the opposite corner. Breakfast was cold continental but plentiful and with great variety of meats (even roast beef) cheeses and home baked muffins and served in a bright airy conservatory. The bed was big and very comfortable.
"Don't let first appearances fool you"
My wife and I visited Lunenburg recently and stayed one night at the Mariner King. Our first impressions were that we had rented a room in an historic, but sleepy B&B. It took us 20 minutes to get checked in while the person on duty was otherwise engaged. The family suite that we stayed in consisted of two bedrooms, queen beds and fireplaces in both rooms and a central, modern bathroom with a very large shower. The accommodations were beyond our expectations. The breakfast that was provided was a bit sparse but was European breakfast style with meats, cheeses and fruit. We were pleasantly surprised.
