Over Westmark Whitehorse
"A very welcoming stay"
I was happy to be given a very large room with a wonderful view for my short stay in Whitehorse. The staff were very friendly, even at 4:30 in the morning when we had to leave to catch the early morning flight. The service in the restaurant could have been a little faster, but the food was delicious.
"Dated decor, spacious rooms...."
This property used to be seasonal and it shows in the dated decor and mouldy smell of the entire hotel. The decor is something out of late 1980's. That being said, the location is great, it does have an onsite gym (pretty lacking but doable). The rooms are spacious and the hotel does have AC. There is a restaurant on site, but it is not part of the hotel so no room service possible. Front desk staff vary from very friendly to rude and just plain clueless. While there are other options in whitehorse the best value for money sadly is here.
"Yukon Quest accomodations"
Days Inn was near the activities for the beginning of the Yukon Quest 1000 mile dog race. Provided free airport shuttle at all times. Attached restaurant had great food for reasonable price. I was there for 4 nights. Enjoyed my stay very much.
"I did not find smile on staff's face and more...!"
From the beginning, I did not find the receptionist (a tall guy) friendly and welcoming at all. No one thought him to smile apparently! I was there for a three weeks business trip and it was important for me to be assigned a good room to feel home for this length of time I was staying. The room that was first assigned for me was not appealing to me. I asked them to change it and after I moved, I noticed the heater does not work properly and the room was cold (imagine December in Whitehorse). I was happy to have my room close to hot sauna that was located in each floor. However, for guests with NO COMMON SENSE of considering other guests in rooms close to sauna, THERE WAS NO SIGN of any kind to remind them to keep quiet and avoid run after 9 or 10 pm on those hallow wooden floor of hallway! It was annoying! The major issue I had with this location was unfriendly staff.,. it was so bad that I did not want to ask for any help of any kind from them. The cab were filthy and the drivers were pretty judgmental too! However, the bed was comfortable, there was a restaurant attacked to the hotel (with no special bonus for hotel's guest and also closing early)
"Couple of Nights in Whitehorse"
We stayed at Days Inn because it was close to the areas we wanted to be near. The first thing that set us off at it being a bad choice should have been when we stopped to see if there where rooms available and right away the clerk responded with, "Do you have a credit card?" The best thing was having the restaurant right at the hotel, my kiddo thought that was the best thing ever. The next was the rooms were small for a family of three travelling light but with winter jackets and boots. The room also smelled like smoke even though they are all "non-smoking", but you can open the windows. We were put so far to the end of the hotel near the busy road that all night we could hear transport trucks up and down the hill. Wasn't worth the location, next time we will stay downtown at a higher price. The other thing was the manager couldn't find toilet paper or tissue paper to put in our room, he searched all over and nothing.
