"Overpriced Suite with extra "Tourist" Fee/Tax to add insult!"

I tried to book a suite online for my son and I as we were attending the Liberal Party of Canada yearly convention and the convention rates were no longer available so I called into their reservations and was told that the first night, (Friday) was $195 for the 2 bedroom suite and the second night, (Saturday) for the exact same suite was $322 because on weekends they expect less rooms to be available. This was for a suite overlooking the city, NOT the falls. I reluctantly agreed to the extra cost for convenience sake. There was no mention on the telephone about any additional "Tourists" Fees. After booking I received an e-mail confirmation. I am a Hilton Honours member for many years. The suite we received was on the 8th floor, (856.) It was a very good size by hotel standards. The layout was good and the bathroom in the middle was well appointed. The carpet had many stains and the closet and door frames had many black hand marks all over them. It was not difficult to see the marks as everything was painted white. The fan on the ceiling in the bathroom had many years of uncollected dust on it! The room safe was locked and 24 hours later when security showed up to open it there was a extremely dirty slipper left inside it! One of the T.V. remote controls had no back cover on it thusly exposing the batteries. The two beds were comfortable with many pillows. The Maid did not replace any bathroom items we used including the shampoo, bath soap or mouthwash that was originally in the suite when we arrived. We ordered breakfasts in our suite which was satisfactory however, we were charged $7 for a small box of Fruit Loops and the "fresh" orange juice came to us in a clear bottle marked commercially as concentrated juice. On our bill for two people for breakfast it was $58 for eggs and waffles. They automatically charged us 15% gratuity and a $3 delivery fee! The amenities in this hotel are all very good including the indoor pool. We ate one dinner at their Watermark restaurant and the service was very good, the food was above average but small portions and for the two of us without alcohol the bill was $114. When we went to the front desk to return our key cards and check-out I asked why I was not told about the extra 6.69% "Tourist" fee/tax and why I had to pay it as I was from Oakville and clearly not an out of town tourist, I was informed by the clerk that it was a mandatory fee that is collected for the city as an improvement fee. I asked to speak with a Manager who also told me that there was no choice in the matter and that I had to pay the extra fee. There was also a $3 a day "Eco-Fee!" So in total I was forced to pay 19.69% on everything associated with the Hotel in taxes and fees just to stay there! When I mentioned again to the Manager that I was not given advanced notice of the extra fees he told me that it is mentioned on their website and should have been included in the confirmation e-mail I received. I handed him my confirmation e-mail, (printed by me,) and could not see any notification of the additional fees. He proudly, with a smile, found tiny fine print on the bottom of the page of the e-mail showing the extra fees and he highlighted the sentence with an orange hi-liter. I left the desk then in dismay to go to retrieve my vehicle from the Valet parking. Its an O.K. Hotel but for two nights with two breakfasts and one dinner it's very costly at $899, just my take on what we were forced to pay. You be the Judge.

"First trip to Canada "

Great room with spectacular view! Good location. Courteous staff! We had dinner at the Watermark and the food was fantastic. 5 minute walk to casino. We drove up here, it is 30$ Canadian per day to park at this hotel. I would recommend using credit card to pay for as much as you can while you are visiting, to avoid any concerns about exchange rates at restaurants, attractions or shopping in general.

"Great hotel staff and service pretty average"

Had an amazing room. Be careful if you book through Expedia as we ordered a falls view but it's the hotel name so charged an extra $40 for a falls view! Amazing view and room for family junior suite. Wifi was appalling in the front part of the room but minor niggle. The reception staff were very impersonal and the hotel is a bit faceless. But location is amazing and we had breakfast in the famous cafe across the road which was amazing.

The room smelled quiet stale and the idea of doors opening up to the bedroom from the bathroom made us feel a bit uneasy, the room would have been better suited to las bagels.but we could not fault the view of the falls and we had a perfect view of the fireworks. But the breakfast was amazing everything you would want.

"2 bed suite falls view good for families"

As 2 couples, each with a 15 yo daughter, travelling together, the Fallsview Hilton offered 2 bedroom suites which are a great roomy option. The Canadian dollar has good parity with the Australian dollar so a great falls view is available with 2 queen size beds for less than $400 AU a night. There is a large bathroom in between that had good water pressure and a full separate bath. Fittings are dated and there no provisions in the mini fridge and an additional cost for everything. Internet access is an additional charge unless unless one joins the Hilton rewards program at check in (which is free) but for our room Internet was only accessible for devices in the bathroom! Not so in our friends room though. Beds were very comfortable. We ate at The Watermark restaurant in the hotel which has a great view of the falls illuminations at night and which had friendly service. Check in and check out was efficient and onsite parking is easy. The hotel is easy walking distance to all the falls activities and viewing platforms on the Canadian side, including the behind the falls experience, which we would recommend. All the activities can be done in 24 hours and we would definitely recommend staying on the Canadian side: the view is definitely spectacular. While a little dated in some aspects the Hilton Fallsview delivers on the falls view, which is ultimately the reason you choose it.
