Ottawa, de hoofdstad van Canada, ligt in het oosten van de provincie Ontario, op de grens met Quebec. Hoewel het momenteel een van de snelstgroeiende steden van heel Noord-Amerika is, kan het centrum van de stad uitstekend te voet verkend worden. Vooral de buurt rondom de Byward Market is een populair wandelgebied. U kunt Parliament Hill bezoeken, het Canadian War Museum en vele andere musea.

"Right in the thick of it"

A very nice hotel in downtown Ottawa. Walking distance to all the major attractions including parliament, Rideau Canal, Byward Market and Rideau Centre Mall. The hotel is clean, quiet and pleasant. It was quite pricey, but that's to be expected when it's busy.

"Best in the City!"

This hotel exceeded my expectations, and I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Ottawa. I was travelling on business and they took care of all my needs with great courtesy. I was upgraded which is always a great perk when you're working. Thank you Novotel for your patience and great service.

"Poor Parking"

Nice hotel - good value; but the parking is poor: the spaces are too few and too narrow; the lot is hot and very crowded and awkward to get to; all guests seemed grumpy on parking. Access from parking to the hotel is indeed convenient.

"Excellent location to spend our wedding night"

Our suite was excellent for our special and historical occasion: the celebration of our wedding night. Very courteous, cordial and hospitable staff. The location is very central, close to super shopping facilities.

"Stellar Service"

Pros: phenomenal staff upon check-in, quick solution to room issues, LOCATION, comfortable beds, housekeeping doesn't knock on doors early in the morning. Cons: dated rooms on lower floors. Hockey teams turning hallways into playgrounds. Expensive breakfast buffet. Just returned from another good stay at the Novotel. The location is great, staff is good, comfortable beds. There is a significant difference between rooms, however. The first room we were placed in was on the second floor- carpet was bunching up causing a trip hazard and it was an 'old' room- certainly not up to the standards of prior stays. They are in the process of renovating the rooms- and two of our other coworkers got rooms on the 9th floor- they were gorgeous. Oddly enough, I was the one who booked all of our rooms and I got the bottom of the barrel pick- and I booked these in May. We arrived, checked in, and got to a very warm room after navigating through what seemed like 100 kids playing 'hallway hockey'. We dropped our luggage and immediately turned down the heat to 62. Being so close to Byward Market, we headed out to dinner- the location really is stellar. Close walk to the action, without the noise of the bar crowds like the Courtyard by Marriott in the center of it all. We returned from dinner around 11:30- and the hockey kids were still running amuck, and the room was still uncomfortably warm. We can't sleep if the room is that stuffy. So I went down to the front desk. I assume I was speaking with the night auditor because his interpersonal communication skills were nothing even remotely close to the phenomenal desk staff we're used to. However, in his defense, he was probably quite busy listening to unhappy guests complaining about the noise from the hockey team. I can't blame him. I explained the situation with the heat and the room quality and he tried to find another room with 2 double beds. No luck. I really didn't want to change rooms at 12:30am, but between the kids running around like unchained monkeys in the hallway and the heat, I wasn't going to get any sleep in that room so moving was the only way to guarantee at least a few hours of sleep. He seemed very annoyed with me- and I would be annoyed, too, dealing with complaints all evening (I'm certain that 98.4% of the complaints were regarding the kids- this is the first time I have asked to switch rooms in a really, really long time- the Novotel has always been a favorite place to stay with no issues). But the staff, especially the front desk staff, have been awesome over the past 5 or so years that I've grown accustomed to the 5 star level of customer service I have consistently received there. Needless to say, he found a room after clicking around and a little bit of huffing out of disgust for the guest standing in front of him (ME). It was uncomfortable but I truly couldn't sleep in a room that warm, so I silently and patiently waited. He said the best he could do was a junior suite with a king bed and pull out sofa with an attitude like 'take it or leave it'. I asked if I could call my coworker to run it by her- after all she would be the one sleeping on the pull out- and he flipped the phone around and walked away for a minute. She agreed that sleeping on a sofa bed was better than a warm/hot room, so I informed him we would prefer to relocate. He didn't say much after that and handed me the keys to the new room. I asked if I should come back with the room keys and he said 'leave them in the room'. I thanked him and went up to move. In his defense, he did upgrade us for no charge even though the room configuration was challenging- so he did 'make the guest right'. The room was larger but still not in the best condition- but the AC worked well and that's what we really needed. I did speak to him about the hockey kids and he said he's been dealing with them all night. Honestly, there's only so much he can do about unsupervised minors- and I completely understand. You can talk into you're blue in the face, but if the parents are guzzling booze trying to avoid these kids instead of supervising and holding them accountable, you won't get very far. As we're unpacking, I hear screaming outside the door- at 1am! The crazy hyenas were running around playing some game that is a hybrid of hide and seek and wake up as many guests as humanly possible. I open the door, pop my head out, only to see 4 drunk ladies drinking even more in the hall watching these little hyperactive trolls running up and down the hallway. One mother even said 'there's another complaint going to the front desk' and I said it's already been done- and it's pathetic that you moms are allowing this mayhem. Second night, same issues except for one. The temperature in the room was perfect, but those darn kids were out running the halls again. Midnight, Moms with coffee cups out watching these little demons not doing a darn thing. All in all, I will certainly give the Novotel another chance- hopefully next year we'll get a better room and no hockey kids ruining the stay. I'm confident that the room issues will be nonexistent when renovations are done, but the hockey families will probably be back. I actually feel bad for the lone guy I spoke to at the front desk dodging bullets of complaints from every other guest suffering from sleep deprivation thanks to the unruly kids. He really was doing everything he could for the noise complaints. The average rating of 3 stars is only indicative of this stay- past stays are normally 5 stars.
