Over Tadoussac Hotel

We spent 2 nights in Tadoussac for the famous whale watching. Tadoussac was one amongst several stops during a 3 weeks East Canada tour we did with the family. Our agency booked us a room at the Hotel Tadoussac. Hotel Tadoussac is probably the most famous Hotel in town. It is very nicely located and enjoys a brilliant view onto the beach and the harbour of Tadoussac. The garden is very generous and neat. There are several sunbeds and chairs to chill and enjoy the nice views. Unfortunately there was no service in the garden - we had to get our drinks ourselvs at the bar. The house from the outside looks very well tended and freshly painted. Sadly thats where it ends with the positives... The hotel from the inside is old and pretty run down. Our room was very small, the beds old and not really comfortable and the bathroom was so tiny that only one person could brush his teeth at once. There was no space to leave your travel kit - we had to place it on top of the flush always afraid seeing it falling on the ground. The internet was very slow and unstable - we experienced several outages of more than an hour - which is pretty annoying in 2016. The restaurant and the service was also very poor. Every day we had to ask what the pasta of the day is - a good waiter tells you about the dishes of the day once you sit down without the guests having to ask themself. We had several times dinnerware that was dirty. Once we ordered a wine which was on the winelist - after 15 minutes the server came back saying that he acutally gave us an outdated winelist - apparently the wine was no longer available. The breakfast buffet looked like a battleground - the staff totally lacking proacitivity - they only strated to move if people told them that certain foods running out. We also noticed that the waiter never gave us a pen when we had to sign the bill at the end of the dinner... Several small issues acutally but if you all add them up it leads us to the conclusion that we clearly should have stayed elsewhere. Our impression is that the management doesn't really care if their guests are satisfied or not as 99% of the guests come for the whale watching - thats something you normaly do once - i.e. you only stay for one or two nights and you don't tend to come back. Hence why should you care about making your guest happy if you can maximise your profits by holding back investments in the rooms and in well trained staff. It seems that they only invest money in fresh painting and neat garden to make sure it looks all fine from the outside and try to attract some new whale tourists. The fact that the concierge didn't ask about our stay during the check out procedure clearly underpins our view that they simply don't care about feedback and customer service. I don't write this very often but in that case I would recommend staying at another hotel if you visit Tadoussac.
This was a one of a kind treat! With a view of the Tadoussac bay, whales and seals randomly popping up from the water, WOW! This hotel is extremely clean, has excellent customer service and amazing food to offer in its restaurant. The area is fantastic with its rocks, water and dunes. The beds were super comfortable.
Gorgeous hotel on the bay. Amazing views. But the inside was from 1962. They need to update it big time. No A/C if you're visiting in the summer and it was hot and muggy while we were there. It was very clean, but there's no refrigerator which was a bummer. You could pay extra for one. Overall though, this hotel was the best location, walkable to everything. The service was wonderful and the views were spot on.
"Clean and Quiet with Great Views"
Nice old hotel. Clean and comfy but few modern amenities in rooms. Being with a bus tour we were mainly relegated to rooms at the back which tended to be dark. Still; comfy bed and it was quiet. You can even open a window. Nice decks. Nice homey lobby. Friendly staff. Good breakfast buffet.
Wow, fantastic view on the bay. Great stay. The employees are very nice and friendly. The hotel has an colonialists/ nostalgic atmosphere. There was also a nice challenging puzzle of 1000 pieces or something in the lobby. Nice idea. (My husband's reaction was more like stop it you are not a granny yet :D). Definitely stay again. I think it is the best place to stay at Tadoussac.
