"1 star treatment for "4 star" hotel"

From the moment we walked into their hotel we had been disappointed with the service and with the state of the room. When we checked in the receptionist said I could not pay for my room up front. I spoke to many people on the phone prior to our arrival to make sure I could pay it, because the total cost for an 11 day stay in the nicest room pre authorized on my credit card would use up my entire limit. The remainder is barely enough for food, and completely unacceptable. The woman at the counter wouldn't budge until I told her it was ridiculous to tell me one thing and then do another. I was happy to have a small bond held on my card after full payment was made, but this was not good enough for the front desk employee. She had to speak to management (or whoever was in the back room) to get this approved. This should have been done prior to my arrival as I had asked many times to make sure this was possible. The wait was much too long as my partner was feeling ill. The woman behind the desk seemed to not know what she was doing and was far too nonchalant and rude for the situation that was slowly but surely making me very angry and upset. The jacuzzi bathtub panel was falling off when we tried to use it. There should also be a manual for use of the jacuzzi tub. The small screen is hard to use. There was hair and dirt in the bathtub when we went to use it. We had to clean it ourselves. The self drying part of the tub kept coming on repeatedly while we were trying to sleep. We called the front desk around 4/4:30pm and complained to the woman about it. She said she would call maintenance and let us know immediately. When the tub started making the loud blow dryer sound again I called the desk for a second time. The woman said she left a message for the maintenance man and couldn't do anything (she should have called us to advise rather than us complain for a second time???). When I got upset about the lack of communication, she offered to switch the breaker to turn off the spa, and we could just call her whenever we wanted to use it again. I feel like calling the front desk to use the bath is absolutely absurd. The wifi was intermittent and slow in our room. The pillowcases had what looked like rust stains around the edges. This was disgusting. The fireplace or heater(?) makes a very loud rattling noise whenever it is turned on The continental breakfast was subpar compared to other hotels where we paid the same or similar rates. Also the time it starts is far too late for people who go on early tours. Whenever we walked around barefoot or with socks on in our room, our feet would collect the dirt left on the ground and the soles of our feet/socks would turn brown. The housekeeper did not clean mess/trash from the floor or give us extra toilet paper and also left the window open in -20 degree weather so when we came back to our room it was absolutely freezing. There was a loud rattling noise that kept appearing throughout the middle of the night and waking us up. It sounded like something in the vents? Had to wait at reception desk for too long for someone to come help me. There is also no bell to get someone's attention. The plates and cutlery in the breakfast area are revolting. They are covered in crusty food. So unhygienic. We had skis poles and boots delivered late at night on Jan 8. After using them all day we came back and were told we could not store the gear in our room which I find very odd. As we were standing there with very heavy and wet ski gear the receptionist took a long time to figure out what to do. This was inconvenient and strenuous. We were told to pay $5 each to rent ski lockers. We agreed and paid the amount. When we asked where the lockers were she only said "downstairs". So we go towards the elevator and she tells us we have to take the stairs (why?) Once downstairs we found our allocated lockers but they already had ski gear in them. We had to then go back up and sort it out again which was inconvenient AGAIN. Also the lockers are not even close to secure. Ski gear could easily be stolen. The whirlpool is far too hot to be considered comfortable or relaxing. It literally turns your skin bright red. After skiing all day we walked in and asked reception to organise a pick up with Ultimate Ski and Ride(who are fantastic for ski rental by the way) for all of our rented gear. Her face instantly dropped into what I would describe as an "inconvenienced, hard frown of annoyance" before reluctantly and very slowly organizing it for us. While we were waiting at the desk holding our heavy and wet gear. My partner and I tried to order room service for thirty minutes one night. The phone to Carlitos would not work - it just beeped and hung up. We called reception a few minutes later to place the order for one slice of chocolate cake, and they said they couldn't do anything. Why on earth can't reception place an order for room service at the restaurant two metres to their left? My partner and I woke up with itchy bumps all over our bodies a fair few nights in a row. I don't know if this was a reaction to harsh chemicals used on the sheets, or if they have some kind of infestation. We went to the front desk at 6:50am and said "excuse me, is there any way we can go in for breakfast a bit early? We have a tour leaving soon" and the lady just said "7 o'clock" and immediately looked back at the computer screen. I found this to be weird as she didn't really answer the question, and slightly rude. We went in at 7 and started making our breakfast. Before we were even able to sit down a woman comes up and says, not asks, "breakfast passes". We have never been asked for them before in the 8 mornings we have eaten here, so I didn't have them on me. I told her I didn't have them and also gave her our room number to check and she just looked at me like I was stupid. She didn't say one word to me, just gave me that look for a long time. So I eventually figured I had to go back to our room to get the passes which was inconvenient as we were in a hurry to get to our tour bus. AND SHE WAS VERY VERY RUDE. To the very last day we still did not hear back from reception or maintenance about fixing the faulty air dryer in the jacuzzi tub. All in all I would say the level of customer service we received was abysmal. The manager did try to rectify the situation after I complained. He apologized on behalf of the hotel but said he could not reprimand the staff for doing their job (even if they did it rudely and poorly), chastised me for not bringing my complaints to him sooner, and made me feel in the wrong for complaining in the first place. He did offer a fraction of a discount after I brought my complaints to his attention. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Try the new hotel "Moose Hotel Suites" down the road. We will be staying there on our next holiday. Or literally anywhere other than the Banff Inn. Also - the attached photo is of four days worth of garbage that wasn't collected by housekeeping. This hotel is awful. 0/10. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. They don't know what customer service is.

"Nice place to stay"

Nice large and clean rooms. Very friendly staff. The breakfast was boring, nothing special. But the restaurant was good. The hot tun was great after a day on the slopes in Sunshine Village. Banff is always a great stay!

"Exactly like the photo"

The place is clean, modern and the staffs was great! The 3rd floor where we stay is new and renovated. Awesome ! Recommend to stay! The staff was excellent and recommend where to go. Underground parking is first come first serve!

"Very nice stay"

We like this place a lot. It was our second trip to Banff and second stay at Banff Inn. Love the sauna and steam room! It was very hot and clean, nice breakfast and clean rooms. The only thing that bothered us during the night - it's a very loud heating fan in the room. Could not sleep well because of that. First our visit was during the summer, so didn't have that problem then. Overall highly recommend this place - good price, great location! Very close to hot springs, Banff Gondola and Norquay Ski resort.

"Beautiful Banff"

Clean, comfortable stay in beautiful Banff. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurant was also very good. Don't hesitate to stay here.Bring a swim suit also as the hot tub feels great after a day in the mountains!
