"Great location, Comfortable Room, Great Value for Money, Awesome Breakfasts"
Stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in the run up to Christmas 2017. Got a really good deal as a promo was running when we booked. The hotels location is fantastic as it really is slap bang in the middle of downtown - getting to anywhere is easy and my partner and I were able to walk to most of the locations we wanted to get to - great bus and metro access too for those that arent great walkers. The room was a little on the small side BUT it was more than comfortable, the beds were comfortable and the sleep quality for us as jet lagged travelers was superb. The ensuite bathroom was suitably large enough to ensure that both me and my partner were able to feel comfortable and relaxed in it. The staff at the reception desk were really helpful - and dealt with all our queries in a friendly way. The breakfasts at the hotel were served in the pub next door that is accessed from the hotel. The variety of food was superb and catered for everyone ranging from continental to cooked breakfasts - there were excellent additions such as pancakes, waffles and fresh toast as well as the usual offerings. I would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends.
"Budget hotel in the heart of Vancouver"
PROS: Price—the most affordable hotel in the heart of Vancouver. Located in downtown Vancouver. Extremely pleasant staff. Bed was OK. Microwave and refrigerator. Free wifi and good selection of TV stations. I got a suite for the price of a room. (Not sure why I was upgraded but won’t complain.) CONS: Older hotel in strong need of an extensive renovation. (At least 10 to 20 years overdue, though my bathroom updated). Elevator—just one to serve many floors and not big. When I arrived, it wasn’t working but was quickly fixed. Neighborhood—on the edge of downtown and the area is in transition. TIP: Although the hotel has a breakfast buffet, Tim Horton’s is across street and there’s a supermarket a block away. BOTTOM LINE: For a budget conscious traveler who is looking for a place to sleep, this is a good choice.
"Stay for the location, not the amenities"
Positives: - clean - right in the heart of downtown Vancouver, easy to get to everything - rooms were quiet - staff was courteous Negatives: - very outdated, furniture, walls, and linens have definitely seen better days - smallest hotel room I've had in North America (if you've done an Asian business hotel, a little bigger than that) - steps at the entrance which was inconvenient with luggage - no mini-fridge If you need somewhere to sleep and keep your luggage while in Vancouver this is the place, but if you like to spend in your hotel room I wouldn't recommend.
"Friendly staff, great location"
This hotel is in a great location, easy walking distance to shops, ferry to Granville Island, etc. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and were very accommodating. The room was nicely presented and comfortable for the two of us. The only negative I have is purely about the amount of noise that could be heard from the guest above us. Given the building is (I assume) on the older side, the ceiling/flooring is not exactly soundproof so footsteps can be heard. In saying that, we would definitely stay again - but would see if we could get top floor upon check in!
"Alright but wouldn’t stay again"
Booked on hotels.com so I wasn’t up for the work it would take to get a refund & go elsewhere - but I wasn’t happy with the hotel, the location (sketchier stretch of Granville) or the room although the hotel is fairly clean. Older, with bit of stale smell, but fairly clean. We changed from the first room as we found hairs in the bed. The first lady who had checked us in at the front changed us quickly so that was good - but when we left for dinner, I (very nicely) recommended to the second front desk lady that the hotel start to use mattress protectors because not seeing them will deter future customers - that particular front desk lady gave me a look of disdain rather than accepting the feedback (yet I recommended very nicely). She continued her unfriendliness thereafter when we returned from dinner by pretending she didn’t see us come in. This wasn’t us looking for a refund or a freebie as we were still willing to stay even though we found hairs in our bed (and something like that would qualify for a refund yet we didn’t ask for one), then we made a friendly recommendation for future consideration. You’d think a front desk agent would remain professional by being friendly - even thanking for feedback (whether they intend on adding protectors or not). Even half-a-star hotels use protectors. Our second room smelled better & no hairs but both beds (no protectors) were sinking in the middle so they must be old. Spend a bit extra & stay elsewhere. The closeness to shopping etc isn’t worth the risk of not being happy with an already booked stay.
