"shoebox for 2"
The room was really clean and we got a good deal on Hotwire. We stayed on the 4th floor not facing the road. It was surprisingly quiet for being right downtown and attached to Doolins a busy bar. The room was really very small which is my only complaint.
The other reviews sound like a different hotel. The Comfort Inn downtown has many faults...It is old and not in an attractive way, the rooms are extremely small...the elevator holds max four slender people or 2 people with small suitcases. They charge their guests a $25 fee per day to park in their parking lot..never experienced this in all my years of travel! The restaurant is only open from 5 to 7 pm...but the Irish Pub plays extremely loud music until 2:00 in the morning !!! Another experience I've never had before and don't want to repeat. With all these problems it should be a really cheap place to stay but believe it or not they want top dollar for their tiny rooms. My advice is stay away from this one.
"Very nice for the price!"
Planned an over night trip for my husbands birthday, we were having a pretty high priced dinner so i was looking for a nice place to stay for a good price. I came across the comfort inn. From the pictures it looked nicer than what i would expect from a comfort inn, which is the only reason i considered booking. I compared to a few other hotels downtown and with the location and the price i decided to book it. When we arrived at the hotel I mentioned that it was my husbands birthday so they "upgraded" up to a top floor room with a fireplace for free which was much appreciated since i read from other reviews that the top floor is where you want to be. The room beat my expectations, big time!! it was honestly probably one of the cleanest rooms i have ever stayed in, and we stay at a lot of high end hotels. it felt pretty high end, the decor was nice, everything was new and the lay out was very nice and comfortable. there were a couple time that other guest were being loud in the hallway and it felt like they were practically in the room with us which can be sort of awkward but generally we were not disturbed by loud noises. the booking of the room included a free breakfast, which i would recommend you skip!! i am a huge fan of free breakfast and was excited to not pay for breakfast but this breakfast sucks. I recommend splurging and going somewhere else. I would recommend this hotel, you cant beat the price and the location.
"overnight for short stay in centre"
very good place for short stay in city centre, close to all main points, buses, in the middle of action. great breakfast at the irish pub/restaurant and then discount for guests for lunch/dinner or drinks there. small rooms but comfy beds.
"Quite a Gem in Downtown"
To begin with, I was notified by the hotel that their elevator will be going through some renovation during my stay. So, they offered either a free cancellation or 30% discount from the rate I already had with them. Of course, I took the discount – I researched the hotel and there are not many floors so not having an elevator was not a deal breaker for me. Definitely a plus for the hotel to let me be aware at least before my arrival. When I arrived at the property, I was welcomed by the automatic doors (very convenient for those who have a lot of luggage to carry and do not have hands to open the door). Check in went very smoothly and I even got a free upgrade room! When I got to my room, it was a little bit smaller than I expected since I got upgrade from a queen to a king. Then again, it is just me and I am not going to complain on a free upgrade. I really appreciate the number of outlets in the room and great channels on television. Unfortunately, on my first night, my blow dryer was working very weird. I thought it was maybe the connection but it was not. The moment I turned it on, it sounded like firecrackers. I was so scared! The very next day, I told the front desk, the problem, before I left for the day and came back to a brand-new blow dryer. And also, since I was on the first floor, I would hear the music from the restaurant next door but luckily, I didn’t sleep till late so it didn’t bother me that much – just heads up for those who sleep early, the first floor may not be for you! I do not remember the names but it was during the PM shift, when I passed by the front desk, the gentleman with the beard and a small bun acknowledged me with a smile and a hello, while the other girl with glasses never looked up to do the same gesture – so naturally I went to him and ask him a few questions in regards to taxi and traffic, early in the morning. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay. Tim Hortons is literally right across the street and there’s also transportation around the corner. Downtown is just a few blocks away. Although be careful walking because there are some homeless and sketchy people around but then again, that's nothing new these days. Still, I will come back to this property when I can!
