"Beautiful lodge on a very nice location"
The lodge housed 4 rooms and bathrooms. Our room was on the first floor and the balcony provided a great view over the area. The bathroom is adequate, however I not pleased with showercurtains that cling to my body. The (bath)room is clean and staff is fiendly. At the lobby you will receive a map and explanation what to do in Wells Gray park We have not missed the television nor the lack of Wi-Fi. The view, the quitness and the Wells Gray made up for that. We loved spending here 2 nights. The hotel is just a few hundred meters from the park entrance
"Wonderful, quite, rustic, friendly hotel"
I like this hotel a lot. It is clean, friendly, rustic, beautifully located, quite, peaceful and the staff is eager to help, very kind and friendly and I like it tremendously. It is very personal and the complete opposite of an anonymous tourist bunker. I would have liked to stay longer.
We stayed 2-nights & much enjoyed the experience until an elephant in hob-nailed boots moved in upstairs on the second night & proceeded to pace the floor for hours on end! The Cabins are of wood construction so we heard every step. Driving to Vancouver the next day we could have done with a good night's sleep but it did not happen! We could have knocked on his door but this did not seem sensible & given there is no phone in the room without walking 100m to a pay-phone outside the Lodge there was no way to voice our displeasure. Apart from our elephant friend we enjoyed our stay. The staff are friendly & the breakfast & dinners very good. The Lady in charge of the catering runs a very tight ship, which ensures a very smooth running operation. The Lodge provides an excellent base to explore so we may return, armed with our ear-plugs! Thank you all!
"Great place to stay in Wells Gray"
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from the moment we walked through the door to the time we left to continue our drive back to Vancouver. This is a gem of a place run by a family in a way you might like to run somewhere yourself. Warm welcome, lovely first floor restaurant with views of the valley and beyond. Humming birds feeding on the balcony. We stayed in one of the recently installed lodges. They were spotlessly clean and the balcony provided a lovely spot to enjoy a beer or 2 at the end of the day. This was the icing on the cake for us as we worked our way towards the end of our holiday. There is also parking for RV units with power supply and a large eating area for picnics etc. Golf course next door and horse rides. If you want fancy TV sets, high speed free wifi or even a phone signal then you might not like this place however if you want somewhere lovely to stay, great food and relaxation then this is the best.
If you’re driving along the Highway 5 Southern Yellowhead Highway and reach Clearwater, this accommodation is not close by. Clearwater Valley Road is clearly signposted off the roundabout, but the Helmcken Falls Lodge is approximately a 35 minute, 20 mile drive north from the roundabout. It is not a hotel as such, but is a combination of a camp site, RV site and motel style lodge accommodation. My room was basic but comfortable enough for a single night stay, and had an outside balcony with views over fields, forests and mountains. Car parking was outside my accommodation. For somewhere in the middle of nowhere, there is a very nice reasonably priced bar/restaurant in the main reception building, so everything required is on site. Breakfast can also be taken here. Difficult to judge this place, my only complaint was the amount of mosquitoes which get everywhere, maybe I arrived at a bad time for them. If you like luxury accommodation with everything contained in one modern building and night life nearby, this is not for you. But if you’re happy being somewhere quiet in the country and prepared to walk about on grass and gravel and require only basic accommodation in somewhere out of the ordinary with no TV or wi fi, it’s fine. I have marked it based on my single night stay.
