"Traditional Chinese feel"
Stayed 3 nights at Red Wall Garden Hotel. Don't let the dark alley location intimidate you. Service was great, amazing location. The staff was very helpful, I did not try the restaurant but did have drinks there one day. They do offer free wi-fi but chinese internet is not the best, used a vpn to get around the wi-fi wall. The hotel seemed to have been a hutong at one time. Great feel, amazing staff an perfect location!
Stayed here for 4 nights during our winter break. Hotel is located centrally in a nice little hutong very close to a metrostation and 20 min walking distance to the forbidden city and main Street. Very nice staff who all speak English. Super high quality restaurant with good selection of dishes from different Chinese regions and some western food as well (didn't try). Try the tea ceremony - that's great too. Relaxing oasis in the hectic Beijing. 100% recommended.
"have you ever been exited"
Have you ever been excited by eating in the restaurant of the hotel you are staying - me not - here its the case. BUT the hotel itself is just the place to be if you like it not to be mainstream and touristic. A charming retreat in the centre of the City. Very cosy and nice rooms, perfect service. A hotel in the old style with a magnificent inner yard - just great! Stay there!
"This hotel ticks all the boxes! Hospitality outstanding!"
Involving us in your New Year Staff Party was the highlight of our trip and showed your true hospitality - not something you would get from any other 5* Hotel. Service: From the moment we came through customs, the service from Red Wall Garden Hotel was impeccable. We were picked up from the airport by a very kind man in a very nice car and supplied with water which after a long flight was very much appreciated. This is an excellent service provided by the hotel for those with extended stays, particularly considering it's 'less touristy' location. On arrival at the hotel we were met by a wonderful lady, who offered us a complimentary upgrade and was more than happy to help with any questions we had about Beijing and our stay. This service was continued to our last day which happened to be Chinese NYE - a very quiet day in Beijing it seems. After we had spent the morning walking round a deserted Beijing, we headed back to the hotel before we had to leave for the airport and waited in the bar. A staff member spotted my husband and I sat alone and invited us into their Staff New Year Banquet. They made us feel so welcome and special and showed us a true Beijing NYE. It made a very disappointing last day in Beijing, the best of our trip. Such exceptional hospitality - Thank you Gavin and all the Staff. Rooms: The rooms are spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated in a traditional Chinese style, giving the hotel a very boutique feel. Couldn't complain about a thing. Location: Whilst in a traditional hutong area, providing an excellent authentic Chinese feel as you leave and enter the Hotel, it is perfectly located for many of the main attractions, with a cheap and easy metro station only 5 mins walk away. Despite this there were many occasions we did not require the metro and walked back from our chosen destination. Over our 4 day stay we did not require a taxi once so did not experience the location issues raised by others. Dining: The breakfast supplied was to a very good standard, the Chinese breakfast options of noodles, stir-fry etc are a must try for westerners. Whilst sometimes it can be difficult to fathom eating a pork bun for breakfast they are all very tasty. But even if you can't face it, they have excellent omelettes and other western options available. Dinner at the hotel is a must for at least one night, the dishes are packed with flavour and truly satisfy your appetite. If you want some Peking Duck though, Da Dong is 5 mins walk away and provides the best duck I have ever tasted. Divine. Extra - Mutianyu Great Wall Trip We decided to do the Great wall drop of with the hotel. This essentially provides a 'luxury taxi' service to and from the wall - all that you need. Being taken directly from the hotel in a luxury BMW to and from the wall, without any jade shopping stop offs or unnecessary tourist traps, makes the excellent trip all the better. No waiting around for the stragglers or missing part of the wall because of time limitations. It is a little more expensive than the tour buses, but definitely worth it!
"Almost there, but..."
Stayed there last week in #2311. It was a nice sized room. The front office staff were nice and communicated in English easily. Located in an older part of the city, the entrance is from a narrow alley accessible by car to the small courtyard. We walked up two flight of stairs, with the staff helping with luggage. The bed was queen sized, and super comfortable and soft. We had an extra bed, but that was very firm. The room had lots of wooden furniture, but the sofa was way past it's lifespan. Room was warm in the winter, except if you stand next to the window. They have double curtains, so that helps insulate the rest of the room. The bathroom smelled of cigarettes and I had to turn the ventilation fan overnight to try to get it away. The shower wall was plastered with black spots, presumably mold. I complained about both but the wall remained unchanged the next day! Breakfast was decent. I enjoyed the vegetable noodles.
