"Simply Lovleh"

Me and my partner stayed at this lodge at end of climbing Kilimanjaro. We wanted to recharge our batteries before returning home. What we got was first class service. The staff are super friendly and always helpful. The manager Bacari was attentive and assisted in many things such as day trips. The food is a set menu each night but delicious. The accommodation is individual lodges and tastefully done out in typical African style. There is wildlife running round the grounds such as monkeys but they are used to us humans and cause no problems. There is a dive centre on site offering a variety of sea bearing activities and a spa if you want to relax. We up graded and go our own private beach and if this is available when you go it’s worth doing as it really wasn’t that expensive. There is a happy hour each evening from 5-6 at the Dow Boat Bar where all cocktails are $6. You can watch the Indian Ocean sunset and as the sun disappears see the bush baby come out to feed on mango by the baba tree. It’s a marvellous place and one I’d love to go back to. They even leave you a story at bed time each evening when they prepare your bed whilst your at dinner. Don’t worry about the little lizards they are harmless and eat the mosquitoes.

"Extremly relaxing"

extremly quite atmosphere with good food and excellent staff. the place is very quite with just a few guests around so the perfect place to relax! We got a room just in front of the beach where you would here only the waves of the ocean, we enjoyed that very much.

Arrived after a long flight, greeted with a complimentary drink, given a short tour of the grounds by Casper and settled in to 3 wonderful days of total relaxation. We had a garden room, which served our needs and being close to the wifi hotspot was a bonus,my only negative was the bed sheets did have a blood stain on them (not ours). I cannot praise the staff highly enough, always greeted you with a smile and nothing was to much trouble..My biggest praise has to go to the food, the 3 evening meals we had were fantastic, just the right amount, the only difficult discision was the choice. With breakfast being plentiful and a good selection at lunch time you were never hungry.

"Wonderful Stay"

My wife and I stayed for four nights at Fumba Beach Lodge and it was the rest we needed after our safari. The grounds are magnificent and the staff are extremely attentive. The Lodge is right on the beach and it is well maintained by the staff. It is impossible to swim during low tide, due to numerous sea urchins, so we used the pool during those times. The pool was refreshing and well maintained and we had no problem finding two lounge chairs in the shade. We stayed in cabin 4 and it was marvelous. We were right on the beach and it was very private. The cabin was very large and had a wonderful outdoor shower. We chose the modified plan, which included breakfast and dinner and since breakfast was served until 10:30, lunch was not necessary. Dinner, which was excellent, consisted of a four course meal in which you were given a choice for your appetizer and for the entree. There was a Happy Hour every night from 5-6 and dinner was served at 7, except for the evening we had a magnificent Swahili buffet, which was served at 7:30. The only criticism I have is with the snorkeling trip. We love to snorkel and we chose the Lodge because it offered snorkeling, at an additional cost. Although it is advertised as a 2-3 hour trip, we probably didn't snorkel for more than 45 minutes and at only one location on the reef. I probably should have asked more questions, but I do think that at $50 per person, I would have expected a more extensive trip.

"Enjoyable stay but wouldn't revisit"

We spent 4 nights at the Selous Wilderness Camp on Safari and followed this with a week in Fumba relaxing as part of our Honeymoon. Arrival – we were made to feel very welcome, we were given a tour of the grounds and informed of the different animals that we may see on an evening (bush babies, elephant shrews etc) we were taken to the bar and given a complimentary coconut to drink! These coconuts are lovely and I had a couple during our stay. We were shown our lodge (we had number 3) which opened right out onto the beach, it was such a big beautiful room which had lovely views and a hammock right outside the door! Accommodation – As above, beautiful room with beautiful views and it was lovely hearing the waves crashing against the shore at night. Whilst the rooms were cleaned everyday we did always seem to be given dirty sheets and dirty towels, they always had brown marks on? There was a turn down service every night and they would put the mosquito nets down and spray the room for mosquitos. I will say that whilst we didn’t see any mosquitos we did have quite a few spiders on our bed in the evenings. A complimentary bottle of water was provided in the room everyday which certainly came in handy. Drinks/Alcohol – There were plenty of drinks choices available. The coffee was really nice and quite strong. There were 3 different types of local beers: Tusker, Serengeti and Kilamanjaro. An extensive list of cocktails which I only tried once as I asked for a cocktail which had Basil as the main ingredient and the waiter used mint instead (!) everynight they would do ‘happy hour’ which meant that you could get a cocktail for the bargain price of $6 (!) the drinks were so expensive here, such a difference from the Selous Wilderness Camp and to be honest we would have drunk much more had it not been so expensive. The beers have prices on the neck of the bottle which informs you how much TZS were paid for the bottle yet Fumba would still charge $4.50! Food – I have to say that the food was awful. After we were given such amazing food at the Selous Wilderness Camp I had high expectations for Fumba. I am a vegetarian so I know how hard we can be at times but Selous proves that it’s not completely unachievable. My husband is a meat eater (and not fussy in the slightest) and he also found the food terrible. One day I was given vegetable pie with pilau rice and boiled veg and the next day I was given vegetable ‘curry’ with boiled veg and mashed potato?! The only item on the menu I could have at breakfast was baked beans and mushrooms and on the first day of having this there was bacon in my baked beans.. there were sweet pastries available but they looked stale and the cheese was always on the same plate as the meat. Some days there would be fruit available and it would be covered in flies and ants and some days there were none. Really disappointing but at least it meant I lost the weight I had put on in Selous!! Staff – Really friendly. Can’t fault the staff to be honest. Day trips – Fumba have there own Dive centre which conduct day trips such as a day’s picnic trip to a nearby island with some snorkelling. However they are priced $20 more pp than Blue Safari which is less than a 4minute walk along the beach!! So needless to say we went to Blue Safari and not Fumba Lodge Dive Centre. Pool – I can’t comment on, as we always spent our time on the beach as it was so beautiful. All in all we had a lovely stay as we are a laid back couple and little issues never put a dampener on things but to be honest I don’t think I would personally recommend it.
