"Beware taxi rip offs and very average place."

   18-02-2017
Stayed here as some R&R after trekking Kilimanjaro. Was disappointed with the quality of the room ( none Ocean front twin - no sign of outside showers, lovely bath etc mentioned in other reviews ), shabby pool ( looks great in photos but cracked tiles etc ), cleanliness of food area ( an insect fest at breakfast ), but this pales compared to the taxi scam the hotel plainly have going with certain taxi drivers. We asked on day one how much for a cab into Stone Town ( 30 mins away ). We were told $40 each way, which seemed high but we struggled to get hold of a local firm direct. So , we get a cab into ST and when we try to pay the guy he refuses to take the money on the basis that he would pick us up later. At this point you simply know you are getting ripped off. We ended up having to just put the $40 down in the cab and getting out. The driver was pretty intimidating about it. Later that evening after about 30 seconds gentle haggling we agreed a $20 fare back with another taxi. So, the hotel must be aware they are overcharging people by 100% at least. Even more disturbingly, as our cab pulled away into the traffic the original driver appeared alongside and started having a go about his being 'our' driver. How he spotted us I will never know, but it shook me up. The hotel are plainly in on the scam as the guy who introduced himself as manager when we arrived ( he is not the manager, incidentally as a Dutch guy introduced himself a couple of days later as the manager who has been sent over by the owners/investors to review the place ) told us that the fare would be $40. Not impressed and not a little unnerved by the whole experience, Avoid.

"over priced"

   09-02-2017
We have stayed in 5 lodges/hotels in the Zanzibar Archipelago and found that Fumba Lodge was over priced. The Lodge is in need of a refurbishment. At the price that we paid we didn't expect thread bare bed linen and towels . On a positive note our evening meal was always lovely , well cooked and well presented . We saw some beautiful sunsets . All the staff were extremely helpful but needed more development and coaching in their field . The water sport centre was fantastic and is run independently from the main Lodge .This Lodge is in a stunning position with great views and has tremendous possiblities

"Happy Anniversary!!!"

   05-02-2017
To finish off our amazing two week anniversary in Tanzania, we spent one night at the Swahili House hotel in Stone Town and two nights at Fumba Beach Lodge (same owner). At both places, the views were astonishing, the food was excellent, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. At Swahili House the sunset from the rooftop bar was impressive. At Fumba we spent a day snorkeling and had a barbecue picnic on a secluded beach that only appears when the tide is low. It was an experience we will never forget.

"A day pass to the beach"

   25-01-2017
I was looking at a quiet place to spend the day at the beach not too far from Stone Town and the people I was renting from recommended Fumba Beach. Most of the time when going to a beach is probably more practical (and safer?) to find a resort of some sort so you have the option to order food/drinks and leave your stuff, plus you have often the option of a pool as it was the case for the Fumba beach lodge. It's about 30/40 min from Stone Town south from the airport and a taxi cost me $30.00.It included for the driver to take me, wait and the return to town. Most driver will say $40.00 when asked but they're a lot of competition and you can always have 2 taxis fight over you. I also pay $5.00 for a day pass at the resort, it was very quiet, the pool area is mostly shaded. The beach is easily accessible but I was a little disappointed as it wasn't the beautiful white sand beach I was expected, but fine to swim in. Spent some time in the ocean then went back to the infinity pool area and stayed there for most of the afternoon. Showers, bathroom and restaurant are right there and it was quite nice to order a nice lunch by pool side. The only thing they could improve on is the pool cushions and towel could use a little refreshing. Spoke to a few people staying at the resort and they only had good things to say about it, most of the bungalow are right on the beach.

"Top spot for relaxation"

   25-01-2017
We stayed in 2 ocean view rooms which were well appointed and with amazing views. The ambience is extremely calm and naturally beautiful. Amazing trees , lovely pool, amazing breakfasts and dinners on the beach. The snorkelling day trip combined with lunch on an island is highly recommended. Highly recommend this beach lodge and its friendly and professional staff.
