"Lily Beach resort and spa"
I visited this resort in late March early April 2017 for a holiday of a lifetime with my sister. I have been to the Maldives 6 times previously from 2001 to 2009. The vast majority of staff were extremely professional, friendly and helpful. The room facilities were 5* plus Toiletries provided were excellent and had we known we would not have taken any basic toiletries, just a sufficient amount of our own preferred products. Mini bar included bottle of champagne on arrival, red and white wine, beers and soft drinks replenished every day. Nespresso coffee machine and nibbles topped up each morning. Dive centre provided fins, snorkels, masks and floatation jackets free for the duration of the trip for those who did not bring their own. The four poster xxKing bed was big and comfortable. I slept in the day bed which was also a king size bed / day bed for the main bedroom. So you could accommodate 2 adults and 2 children in the luxury water villas. Two big televisions in the bedroom and opposite the bath gave access to watching all major tv channels and movies in the event of a rainy, cool day. or for me any sporting event that I could not bear to miss the highlights of even if just for a few hours to catch up. Villa spa was salt water and did not work for most of the holiday and was too cool. I would have preferred this to be as described a spa not a salt water cool small pool. The three restaurants on site provided a variety of food. The main restaurant was excellent. It provided a variety of food from most parts of the world, cooked to a high standard and freshly cooked to your order. The tepanaki restaurant next to the adult swimming pool was excellent although you need to book for the restaurant for evening meals a day or two before you wish to eat. It is not a Japanese Tepanaki experience, but as good as you could get in London. The staff at this restaurant did not always give timely attentive service throughout the day. The third restaurant which was Chinese, Indian, Thai themed was the most disappointing. The standard menu was boring, cold and late. The wine list on the resort was expensive and badly underperformed. We ordered bottles of wine ranging from $500 to $95 per bottle. The red wine was served cold, did not meet expectations and the Sommelier was obsequious and disingenuous serving us overpriced cold red wines of dubious vintage. The main bar service was a bit slow and the head waiter was a bit too smooth for our liking, often forgetting our drinks and presenting the order that we had the previous day or evening in an attempt to "impress us". Well intentioned I believe but frustrating non the less. However they had a good range of drinks and had free individual single cigarettes from the bar for those that have given up smoking but not quite whilst on holiday. We stayed in a delux water bungalow which was beyond the restaurants and on its separate water pontoons. At the opposite end of the island from the beach are garden and lagoon bungelows. Children and Adult services were clearly separated East and West so you had no children at the adult pool near the spa and the elective restaurant eating options. The Spa resort was expensive for individual treatments and packages. Our foot and below knee treatment on day 2 to help alieviate our swollen feet was painfully administered and expensive at $135 +vat+ USA tax = $197. Sorry I have had a full leg and foot massage at Ballantyne's and Henlow Grange for half this price. My main concern was that they feed fish off the main pontoon and pier at 21.00 hours each evening. We witnessed this on 3 nights and would advise the management to stop this event. This feeding process attracted several large black tip reef sharks, several larger white tip reef sharks and 2 small tiger sharks. Many large trevilli. As well as the rays that can be fed off shore this practice is likely to lead to sharks associating food with humans. Whilst snorkelling off the drop off I saw several 5 to 6 ft white tipped sharks that displayed more bold behaviour than I have witnessed on other maldivan islands where there is a strict no feeding policy. I think that this resort will attract too many big sharks to make this island a safer option for those wishing to have a 5* experience in the Maldives. We will not be revisiting until this resort has revisited this ill advised policy.
My lovely wife, Susanna, had been hounding me for this trip for a long time. It's a long, long way away, but we finally arranged to go, and boy, are we glad we did!! She chose Lily Beach Resort because it was one of the best all-inclusive resorts in the Maldives. We splurged and got 6 nights in one of the 4 Sunset Villa rooms, which are simply amazing. After arriving in Male, Maldives, we got on a seaplane for the short trip to the resort. On landing, we are greeted by the resort staff and given a wonderful welcome drink before being swept off to our Villa in a golf cart. The Sunset Villa was over-the-top in beauty and amenities. You can see pictures on the Lily Beach website, but it was simply incredible. Within 4 minutes of our arrival in the villa, we saw the first baby shark in the shallow waters just off our back deck. These are over-water villas, on shallow reefs that are maybe only 4 feet deep at high tide.... and the water was crystal clear. Plenty of colorful fish to see, and once in awhile, we'd see shark, octopus, or some other "exotic" sighting. Turns out these were not exotic here at all, but rather commonplace, which was awesome in itself! The whole resort island is immaculate, and very well maintained, both in how it operates and how it looks. Everything is perfectly manicured and beautifully arranged. Despite having maybe 200 guests and 300+ staff on the island, it was rare that we'd come across more than maybe a dozen people in any one place, except at the restaurants at dinnertime. There was never a problem finding a spot at the pool, but since we had our own plunge pool in our Villa (all of the over-water villas have one, in fact), we didn't spend much time at the main pools. There are several bars on the island, ready to serve wonderful drinks and good snacks. The restaurants were exquisite, and we were surprised to find some of the best food we'd had anywhere right here at the resort. No slouching with the food at this all-inclusive resort... it was all top-notch. We ate at the Tamarind restaurant twice, at nice over-water tables with tiny baby gray sharks circling in the light beneath. We had Tepanyaki one night, which was quite a show, and boasted wonderfully delicious food as well! The main restaurant was the Lily Maa, which was a buffet style restaurant with different specialties each night. As with the other places, the food offerings were simply incredible in terms of variety and the overall quality in preparation and taste. Snorkeling is another world at Lily Beach, and I suspect in the Maldives in general. The shallow reefs offer easy viewing of many colorful fish and other sea creatures (sea cucumbers, puffer fish, squid, octopus, etc.). But the "house reef" was where the action really was. Just a few dozen yards away from the villas, the water drops off to much deeper depths, and this is where the serious fish hang out. Snorkeling over this deeper section, we found ourselves more than once swimming in a school of fish as if we were part of it. Bigger fish were also to be seen here, as well as some more colorful offerings than we'd seen previously. And all this was within 100 yards of the resort! One day we took a trip to snorkel with turtles, which is done at a different reef area a few miles away by boat. The trip did not disappoint. We would highly recommend this added excursion. Every night the resort does a feeding at their main boat dock. Hang onto your hat for this one! You will see swarms of large stringrays, jackfish, sharks and plenty of other fish all competing for the seafood scraps from the kitchen. It's a great show, and well worth seeing every night. Bring your camera too, as part of it is in shallow water and is well lit for great video or pictures. One of the benefits of being in the Sunset Villa was that we had a butler to assist us. Our butler was Farish, and one couldn't ask for more capable and professional assistance. He was available by cell phone (one was provided for easy contact) whenever we wanted, and he was always available to make dinner arrangements (getting us good tables at the restaurants, for example), take us snorkeling (he led us on the turtle tour and the house reef snorkeling trips), or attend to other needs (we were there to be lazy and relax, so we probably didn't over-utilize his excellent services). When we were at the restaurants, he served as our waiter, and he tended to our secluded-dinner-on-the-beach, and the private sunset cruise around the island, both part of the Anniversary package we had arranged. When sadly it was time to leave, he arranged our departure and seaplane schedule and saw us off until we got on the seaplane. He was simply superb. And while Farish was extraordinary, the rest of the staff were exemplary as well. The room stewards are nothing short of amazing. They tended the rooms twice daily and never missed a thing. They put together some simply amazing decorative arrangements in the room (such as flowers on the bed, spelling out HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, etc.) We went to the spa twice and had wonderfully friendly staff and treatment there as well. Imagine having a massage, while face down and looking through a glass floor at colorful and calming reef fish swimming around. Very nice indeed... and highly recommended. The restaurant and bar staff personnel were all very professional and friendly and the front desk personnel were simply tops in professionalism. Patrice, the resort manager, was always around chatting with guests and making sure everything was just right for all the guests. And just right it was, in our experience. We lucked-out and had beautiful weather the whole time. Seas were always calm while we were there, and there was certainly no shortage of sunlight. We managed to escape with a minimum of sunburn, thanks to our ongoing awareness of the harsh sun, and the ready availability of shade everywhere (except while snorkeling, of course, so wear a shirt!) One could always find an umbrella, a lounge chair in the shade, or a hammock slung between two palm trees, to find respite from the sun. All in all, we can't really find anything to complain about, except for the fact that it's a LONG way for us to get there. Still, it was worth every bit of it. And getting there on Emirates via Dubai is a class act in itself. We *hope* to be able to do it again one year. The Maldives is simply amazing, and Lily Beach was more than we expected. Thanks go to Farish, Patrice, and the whole staff for an amazing time! Randy & Susanna
"It was the best resort I've ever been."
In my opinion it was the only resort that you'd be. The resort has everything included , inclusive the wines ,that they have 80 differents tipes of the wines, and they also have the best food I've ever had before.
"Luxury at a price"
Best resort I have encountered in 40 years. The food was michelin star category, all inclusive beverages, service excellent, trip opportunities boundless, good onsite facilities.Unfortunately the house reef was blanched like most of the Maldives but the soft coral is regrowing. if i had the money I would be back there in a flash.
"An excellent honeymoon"
Lily made me see the paradise. It is really an excellent place to take vacation and honeymoon. The service there is wonderful, which made me feel all people there like me! And the all include is very amazing! Except the vacation is too short, there is no defect:)
