"Family holiday"

Staying in the Chedi Muscat was perhaps one of the most peaceful and relaxing holidays I have ever experienced. There is nothing I would have changed. The food was wonderful and the staff were always professional and discreet. I particularly enjoyed the vicinity of the long pool. I never needed to ask for anything. Everything was anticipated by the friendly staff, whether it was cool drinking water or fresh towels. In particular there was one highly intelligent young man, Dennis, who I feel deserves a special mention. He had a wealth of knowledge about Muscat and the surrounding area which was extremely helpful.

"Modern Arabian Chic"

Oh Boy! Where to start?!!! A smooth 20 min limo ride from airport to hotel included in room rate. Check-in while sitting in the simple but elegant reception area resembling a bedouin tent (cold towels, drinks offered during the "process'). Escorted to room (you need it, the place is a bit of a maze). Room was cool, with high ceilings, all mod cons and fully stocked mini-bar included. Very comfortable and nice touches such as a beach bag, nice robes, etc. One gripe though - only one accessible socket which already had a multiway adapter for the desk lamp. So one dodgy socket for today's plethora of smart phones, tablets and laptops? I'd take a multiway extension for any future trips. Our rate also included access to the Lounge, which had hot and cold drinks available all day, as well as afternoon tea from 3-5 (a little surreal, but very pleasant), followed by cocktails and canapés from 6-8. The private terrace for the lounge was pretty busy in the evening, so get there early if you want a table. The grounds are beautiful and there are three pools. Children are only allowed in one of them. One of the others is 100m long, perfect for some serious swimming, although we noted that the sun beds around it went very quickly. The Chedi has a private beach, but this was covered in pebbles and the dark sand had a dirty feel about it, as did the sea rolling in. Warm, but not inviting. Despite having stuffed ourselves with high tea, canapés and drinks, we still struggled off to the main restaurant. Excellent menu with a blend of international styles. Likewise, in the morning, the breakfast buffet was huge, offering a wide range of options. The Chedi shop is full of incredible arty products. Not cheap, and much is not local, but it is lovely, and tempting, fare! It was a real shame to have to leave so soon after breakfast. I'm sure there would be more to enjoy (Health spa, more restaurants, etc). Highly recommended for relaxed elegant chic.

"Very nice but overpriced/overrated"

We had read about the Chedi years ago and absolutely wanted to stay there during our visit to Oman. We booked a room for 3 nights. The basic room here cost 620eur/night (17% taxes included) at the time of our stay. The room was comfortable, not spectacular. We had a garden view. Some of the usual bathroom items were missing (shaver, comb, etc). The hotel is perfect if want to get away from the world, just wandering around in the facilities is lovely, particularly in the evening. The beach is poor and not taken care of (it's actually ugly). Service in one of the 3 pools/bars was poor, as opposed to the other 2. One of the pools is absolutely gorgeous. Let me state it again: gorgeous. We found out on our last night that we were entitled to evening drinks at "The Club" (nobody had told us this). The hotel offers no shuttle service to any part of town, you need to call a taxi everytime you want to go somewhere. Breakfast was very good, but not much fish (maybe there are good reasons for this, I don't know) and on the last morning there was not a lot of options in fruit. The terrace where you have breakfast is lovely. If you intend to have dinner there, book in advance because it seems to be popular. Overall a pleasant experience, however we found the hotel overrated and nothing really justifies the price.

"Wonderful but hugely expensive"

This is a beautiful hotel in a glamorous and romantic setting. The rooms are lovely but in some cases can be dark due to sunscreening. (Check when you book) Three glorious swimming pools with one dedicated to families with children, several restaurants but a poor and windy beach. You need to be quick to get a sun bed in a decent position as they always seemed to be in short supply but persistence makes it worth it. Prior to staying at this hotel I read reports about poor staffing and I have to report the opposite. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The food is excellent in every way except for the pricing level which I found to be excessive coming from the UK. I know the UK pound has devalued since the referendum but £30.00 for a medium sized pizza and £12.00 for a glass of the cheapest wine on the list I found to be very expensive so expect to pay £150.00 for a dinner for two comprising of one main course each and a glass of wine per person. Mmmmmm!!!! Overall I loved this place and would visit again. Well recommended.

"A return visit after 10 years - still one of the best resort hotels in the world"

We were not sure if we would still love this hotel as much as we did on our first visit exactly 10 years before. We needn't have worried - it was even better. Two great additions, the beach restaurant and the longest pool I have seen anywhere, have made the hotel even more special. The food at both the beach restaurant and the main dining room is consistently excellent, varied and innovative. The hotel itself has been beautifully maintained and the rooms are still in great shape. Two slight criticisms were the lack of really comfortable seating in the bedrooms and the overly aggressive air conditioning which was either on or off with the thermostat seemingly not functioning. The truly outstanding feature of this hotel though is the always smiling and responsive service from every staff member we encountered. Altogether our week was a great experience again and we cannot wait to return - probably in a suite next time.
