"Outstanding hotel"

We went for a long weekend with our teenagers. The hotel fully met our high expectations. The architects have done an outstanding job. It is a pleasure to observe all the great details throughout the hotel. The light, shade, water, decorations, materials, colors - it is exceptionally well designed. The service is good not excellent. Staff are friendly and mostly on their toes but there are minor areas that should improve. Our 18 year old daughter was very excited due to all the instagram opportunities. The pools and pool areas are wonderful. The rooms are very nice, comfortable bed, spacious, nice toilet and bath facilities. The restaurants are good, food selection is adequate and the quality is generally high as are the prices. For a long weekend you certainly do not feel an urge to leave the hotel for alternative dining options. The beach and the sea are not great and does pull down slightly on the overall experience. The pools and other facilities makes up for it though. The gym is probably one of the best hotel gyms I have experienced. State of the art equipment, plenty of machines, beautifully decorated and clean. The area in front of the hotel and some of the surroundings leaves some to be desired. This is not a problem once you are in the hotel. I would also say that the hotel is not ideal for young children (<16) as several places are not open for them. The Chedi is amazing and with only few areas for improvement to really make it world class. We hope to be back soon.

"Amazing facilities, poor service"

When arriving on the lane, you are a bit dissapointed because it doesn't look good from the outside but when you enter, you are wow-ed. The facilities and lobby in this hotel is amazing. But I have never experienced such poor service. I have heard this from my colleagues who went there and other guests I spoke in the weekend I was there. Service in the swimming pool area was just poor. Waiting for a long time (40 min for a cocktail), unfriendly staff, they forget order. I counted; there were 12 tables with guests and 5/6 people serving and still they wouldnt look around or help you. I had to ask for a drink/the bill/olive oil or whatever at least 2/3 times. The guy who works in the long pool is super unfriendly, we arrived around 11, there was only ONE bed left and he literally just threw the towels on there, didnt spread them or welcomed us with a hi (we live in Dubai so we are used to good service) Especially for a hotel like this, you expect this The next day, we had to get up at 7.30 AM to reserve a bed at the pool, otherwise they would all be taken. I saw people dragging matrasses onto the grass because of the limited sunbeds. Can you imagine this when paying 700 euro's per night for a room. The room was ok, but very very basic, no extra's, view was bad. Nothing like for example Bab al Shams (Dubai) or One & Only in Mauritius which are rated less. I would go back again, only for the amazing pools and facilities, but they def need to step up their game and get new people to run the restaurants in the pools (more efficient and friendlier)

"Miss Latham"

Felt like I never wanted to leave, and I grew up in five star hotels. It was something else . The staff, the ambience, the tranquility and most important amazing food and wine, says an ex wine merchant

"A truly relaxing Zen experience"

From the moment you enter the front door of The Chedi the peace and tranquillity of the hotel envelops you and the bustle of Muscat is left behind. Nothing seems too much trouble for the staff and the danger is you could spend all your holiday time enjoying the hotel rather than getting out to explore the fascinating city of Muscat and its surroundings. The room was spacious and comfortable and the free bottled water, fruit juice and beer in the minibar was a welcome touch. The design of the property feels very Zen and the waft of incense in the lobby adds to this feeling. There are three pools, the longest said to be 100 metres although I didn't personally pace it out. One or two laps of the pool was enough for me. The double poolside beds were great and the attendants kept up a constant supply of water and fresh towels. Free wi-fi throughout the property works well. It's right on the beach, which is private for guests and the sea was warm enough to swim even in January. The Chedi is a little expensive but you get what you pay for.

"Great but some disappointments "

The grounds, facilities and amenities in The Chedi are outstanding. One of the nicest and well-designed hotels I’ve ever seen. With the choice of 3 pools, 2 adult-only, and an extremely well equipped Gym and Spa, it allows for complete relaxation. I enjoyed a fantastic massage at the spa, which is made really special by the spacious massage rooms. The disappointments started with the room. Having booked a 33m2 room with ‘luxurious bathroom amenities’ and an ‘open plan bathroom’, what we received didn’t really match the colourful description. By ‘open plan’, they mean that the bathroom is in the hallway from the door to the bedroom area and the spa and gym ‘bathroom amenities’ were far more luxurious than those in the room. Yes it’s cleverly designed to squeeze into the 33m2, but with the price you’re paying I would have expected a little more. For example, there wasn’t a bath and when I asked to upgrade to a room with a bath, I was informed only the suites have baths. Ie. you need to pay over 5,000 AED (1,000 GBP) per night to be entitled to a bath. Other small things that I think should be taken care of in a hotel of that standard were: out-of-date iPod docking station; lack of plug sockets; ‘fruit bowl’ is a couple of apples; and no iron & ironing board. Most of the staff were fantastic. Their service reminded me of the service Dubai used to offer 10 years ago. However, around the pools they were not on-the-ball at all and we were often unable to find anyone to help us with towels or ordering food etc. We had to knock on the door of the kitchen to find someone after 20 minutes of waiting for towels. Would I rush back to The Chedi, no, not at that price. I’ve paid similar prices elsewhere and been wowed by everything.
