Over Erongo Wilderness Lodge

"Best stop in family road-trip around Namibia!"

   08-01-2017
I am not a camper, so I was reluctant about staying in tented accommodations with no AC, but the place was great. The tents are luxury-style, top quality and there are strong breezes to keep the rooms cool in the evenings. All of the amenities of a top hotel (shampoos, conditioners, lots of towels, pool towels - though pool is really just for dipping, not swimming) as well as delicious meals in a restaurant with amazing views. The breakfast was easily the best of the entire trip. Aside from hiking, there isn't much to do here, but it was a very nice stop-over between Swapo and Windhoek. Highly recommended for families with kids that like dassies and lizards.

"Can't see the appeal…….."

OK, main reasons for an average rating….. the poor service, toilet didn't rush properly and was never fixed, and the location. Service was just so slow and disorganised. We stayed 2 nights and the first night we waited 40 minutes between finishing the main course and getting the dessert. The next night, we sat down at 7.30pm and it was well after 8pm when we were first attended to. Breakfast was also disorganised. It was slow, and people were being served in the wrong order, some waiting for quite a long time. The food was good when it came mind you, but they really need to brush up on the service and organisation. Room 10, our toilet didn't flush properly. Or rather it would flush once in a day and then take an age to refill. It was a plumbing issue and there would be a constant noise throughout the night as the water ran, trying to refill. We mentioned it but it wasn't fixed. They didn't seem to appreciate the issue as all that seemed to be done was that the septic tank was emptied. We eventually had to resort to a bucket of water to flush, which was in itself wasteful, given there is a water shortage. The fridge was also noisy in the room. Having said that, the room had a lovely view, but that doesn't solve the facility issues. And the location? The immediate vicinity of the camp is nice to look at and we did have a couple of nice walks amongst the boulders. One sundowner and one early morning sunrise walk, both of which gave us views from the top of the small hills surrounding the camp. But given the scenery we had seen elsewhere in Namibia this just left us unimpressed I am afraid. It was surrounded by flat, fairly featureless plains. One plus, the guide we had on the walks was a great and tried hard to make as much of the area as he could. He was friendly and knowledgable. But, we would not stay here again. There are much better places to stay, with more impressive scenery and much better service.

"not for the disabled"

   05-01-2017
I was booked here by a travel agent who knowing I had mobility problems told me there were "a few steps". I was given the room nearest reception but was still unable to negotiate the steps without assistance and spent the whole of my stay in my room. The whole point of this review is to warn anyone who is not 100% fit that this may not be the place for you. The staff were super and what I saw of the lodge made me even more upset that I was not able to enjoy it.

""Gramping""

   03-01-2017
Gramping = Glorious Camping:-) What a perfect place to stay!! The Accomidation consists of about 12 luxury tents. These tents include a king size bed, mini-bar, openair shower, etc... Further, a great lodge is located on a rock. You will be served a great breakfast, lunch an delicious dinner in this lodge. The lodge is not very cheap. However and if you are looking for a romantic, relaxing, quiet and lovely place: this is the place to be!

"Beautiful Lodge in the mountains"

   29-12-2016
Erongo Wilderness Lodge was our first stop after leaving Windhoek on our 3 week self drive safari through Namibia and Botswana- and it is fabulous! Arriving there puts you right in the adventure- safari- Africamood: a beautiful setting in the mountains, friendly and welcoming staff, and beautiful 'tents' in the mountains (there are only about 12)- each very private, cozy with 'open' bathrooms and showers, beautiful balconies with great views of the local wildlife. Dinner is at a wonderfully decorated restaurant on top of mountain, there's also a little pool to rest and just enjoy. All in all a perfect lodge- great experience!!
