"Our favourite place to stay "

Erongo Wilderness Lodge, our favourite. Room 10 a perfect position. Tented room very comfortable and people lovely and evening drive very good. The meal was set on the terrace overlooking the waterhole with birds in abundance. However we made the mistake of trying to drive up to the lodge in a 2WD. We should have left at the gate and they will collect you as the journey up to the lodge was on a rock face. We loved everything about this place, but mainly for the brilliant service, from the welcome smile at reception to the very helpful guides.

"Delightful first introduction to Namibia"

This was our first stop on our 16 day holiday in Namibia. We were given a warm welcome and found all the staff helpful and informative. Our tented accommodation was comfortable and clean with a wonderful view of the surrounding Erongo mountains. Our first night was rather noisy with the baboons in the local vacinity! We particularly enjoyed the walk in the early evening for sundowners with fabulous views, and the early morning walk with the guide pointing out the local flora and fauna.

"What a shame!"

We are an active travelling couple in our 60's. The Lodge setting is marvellous and we had a wonderful welcome, but a 4x4 is preferable for getting there, rather than the 4x2 we had. Never mind. The food was good, but a limited choice. Our morning guided walk was excellent, informative and fun. We were allocated Room/tent no. 6. This is the furthest from reception and bit of a time-consuming hike, but it does afford a marvellous view. Unfortunately the furniture is basically knackered as it has been soaked and dried too many times. The toilet was temperamental at best and electrcity supply to No.6 is the worst. Staff do not care about this issue - NOT do not appreciate it, just don't care about it. Likewise the tents are let at full price in the rainy season, but they are not weather proof. We entered ours and the floor was still wet from the day before and on our 2nd day it was simply flooded and without power. Staff had to be chased and chased to get anything done. 2 star UK service. Do not book an evening drive in the rainy season as the Landrover used has broken or missing dogs to hold down the side sheets and the roof leaks. Not fit for purpose. We simply told staff we would not be paying anything for that curtailed drive - not even a towel offered or stocked. Having complained, the service deteriorated. We were ignored at dinner, having to help ourselves to some parts whilst others were served. The final straw (s) were having to carry our own luggage 210 sloping paces/steps on wet planking because reception had not sent anyone. Help was promised in 10 minutes after paying our bill, but after waiting half an hour we gave up. Finally I asked for the comments book and was very grudgingly handed a single sheet of paper, on which I declined to write as it would have gone in the bin. I think I understand why they require full pre-payment as many guests would justifiably refuse to pay the full amount. Lovely location, great opportunity to impress and satisfy customer expectations. What a shame.

"Wonderful last stop"

We have just got back from 17 days in Namibia and self driving was the best way of seeing the whole country and appreciating all the different areas and regions. Namibia is a country of enormous contrasts and our last stop at Erongo was a wonderful place to wind down and enjoy excellent service and lovely walls and views before heading back to UK. We had a very comfortable tent overlooking huge mountains and boulders. We loved our outside bathroom amongst the rocks and beautiful terrace to sit and contemplate all we had seen. Families of dassies greeted us in the morning and we woke to the call of baboons and the most beautiful and varied bird life. On the first evening we had a nature drive and a visit to the rock paintings. You have to be fit to climb up to the cave and you do have to pay for the trip but it was interesting and enjoyable and ended with a sundowner in the most beautiful surroundings and a return in the dark. In the morning we went on an early morning guided walk which was included in the price and saw birds galore and walked for 4 hours with our enthusiastic guide who was determined we should miss nothing out. The breakfast and dinner were excellent and the pool facility, although small provided a welcome opportunity to cool off in a beautiful setting with loungers, umbrellas and towels provided. An evening sundowner walk was a great opportunity to appreciate the sheer majesty of this peaceful and beautiful area and chat to our knowledgeable guide. Clearly, given the mountainous location and many steps everywhere it is not a good place for people with mobility issues. However, if you love walking and want a contrast to desert or town, this is a great place to visit and we really enjoyed ending our trip here and spending a final couple of days reflecting on all we had seen and learned.

"Nice lodge with lovely staff in a great setting - but soft refurbishment in rooms needed"

We were at Erongo Wilderness Lodge last November. It was our second stay. The Lodge itself has wonderful surroundings, at the north-eastern part of the Erongo Mountains. What we liked: The staff was lovel - from the guide for the morning walk to the staff for breakfast and dinner - they were all professional and charming. The food - eating dinner under the Namibian stars is very special and so the food was. Unfortunately the small waterhole wasn't busy at the time of our stay. We are both vegetarians and loved the meals the lodge prepared for us. Breakfast was very yummy too. Room for improvement: Maintenance. I would highly recommend to do a soft refurbishment in the rooms. Our room was No 6 with a terrace of stone. The bed is medium comfortable and the chairs on our terrace were dated not really clean. No a big issue but concerning the price you pay, I would expect a bit more.
