Stayed here for a few nights with my husband. The ‘rooms’ (somewhat like high end glamping) are quite nice and spacious. Dinner is buffet style and the food is generally very good. The best part is the pick your own game meat to be grilled in front of you. Pretty special. The staff was generally nice but they were not quick to handle a few issues that came up. Unfortunately the WiFi is only available at reception and in the restaurant and bar areas and was spotty at best. Overall a good stay.
"Excellent place to stay just outside Sossusvlei Park"
Sossusvlei lodge is located just outside the entrance of the national park. To get into the main sites (Dune 45, Sossusvlei Big Daddy etc) you will need to srive about 60Km on a very good road inside the park. The Lodge is literally at the entrance of the park. It is not like being inside - but it is the best option just outside the park. Accommodation is in individual desert style lodges, nicely appointed, with bathroom and air-conditioning. The grounds are very nice. We were provided with a very extensive breakfast and dinner. Food was good - especially when you consider how far you are from any city... and in the middle of the desert. Watch the stars at night - amazing skies!
"Get rid of the chef"
Fantastic lodge, but the the barbeque chef has the attitude of a traffic cop. Not a pleasure to order meat from him. Location brilliant. Staff friendly. Would expect drinking water in the rooms though.
"An Oasis in the Namib Desert"
Stayed here for two nights as part of a tour of Namibia. We stayed in spacious lodges which were well maintained and very clean. The included breakfasts and dinners offered a wide selection of food including local game. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Internet was only available around reception and restaurant areas and was inclined to be a bit slow. The only downside was the poorly functioning air conditioner, an air conditioner being a necessity at this time of the year.
"A dream place!!!"
It was a dream Lodge in 1999 and it still is now, almost 20 years later. What can I say about this place?? The location is STUNNING; the views of the open landscape, mountains in the distance and Elim Dune, are STUNNING; the oryx coming for a drink at the waterhole, a painting. At sunset, the mountains take on this pink red hue which is out of this world. The chalets/rooms face this beauty and are elegantly furbished, totally in harmony with the landscape. This is THE place to be for sunrise, sunset, full moon ( like we were) and no moon when the skies are gloriously decorated with all the million stars. The food is out of this world, too. The best dinner buffet I have ever experienced. Also, amazing breakfast buffet. There is a wonderful pool outside to cool down during the heat of the days. This is one of the 'problems' when visiting the Namib Naukluft Desert area. The hours between 10am and 5-6pm are incredibly hot and there is not much one can do, so to have a beautiful pool, is fantastic. The service is excellent. Would like to give thanks to Eva at the reception who was so helpful. Unfortunately, we could not stay longer as we so wanted because the lodge was full. It is advisable to book well in advance as they are always pretty full and it is a shame to miss the experience if one is travelling to Sossusvlei. The gate to the park is a few meters away and it opens at 6.30am. They have a great system. Permits are not bought on entry which would cause a delay and pile up in the mornings. One pays for the permit before leaving the park! Oh, would SOOOOoooo LOVE to be there NOW!!!!
