"Disapointment in Paradise"

   16-11-2016
The welcome was wonderful, The resort looked amazing, but it was down hill from there. The cabins were not very clean on closer inspection. The drinking glasses were not clean, the mirror was covered in something. The soap dish/drinking cup combo was filthy. We used our towels twice and then put them on the floor to be changed and thought we were getting clean towels until I got toothpaste on my "dirty" towel so I put it on the floor as it was 2nd use on it and when I went to use my "clean" towel the next day, the toothpaste was still on it. So the staff was picking up dirty towels and rehanging them as fresh towels for us to use. One of the members of our group got his brand new IPhone stolen in the reception area. We had friends who spoke the local dialect and in conversation it was discovered that the owner had smashed the "tip" box for the staff and told them that they did not deserve tips they got a wage. Unfortunately we didn't know this until after we gave the manager Keith, well over $200.00 to tip the staff. I wonder where that money really went. The food was wonderful but the staff didn't seem to understand simple requests. Also 2 cobras were spotted by the lounge area by members of our group, so keep your eyes open. This could be a great place to stay but they need to address some issues. I developed a severe rash while visiting there, wonder if the dirty towels had something to do with that.

"Perfect Location on The Indian Ocean....Lacks Customer Service"

   09-11-2016
Upon arrival we were greeted with cold beverages and fresh clothes to refresh. Upon arriving it seemed surreal with the tropical setting and all the rooms overlooking the Indian Ocean. However, the manager and supporting staff were not good communicators, I felt more like an inconvenience rather than a guest. The scuba instructor was arrogant and condescending towards several us in the group and was not as instructional or helpful as he should have been. Rooms were clean however getting a clean towel was quite difficult and at times the staff would just hang up used towels on towel racks instead of replacing. The meals were timely and quite delicious with a wide variety of menu items. Breakfast each day we referred to as "surprise breakfast"; we would ask for something and we were never sure what they would bring out. The staff and the guests were both frustrated trying to communicate. In a place where tourism is your business, teaching your staff a few common everyday words to interact efficiently with guests would be helpful.

"Wonderful"

   07-11-2016
Just returned from a fantastic 4 days at Kinasi Lodge on Mafia island. Could not fault it- spectacular setting, superb accommodation and excellent food. Incredibly well looked after by Keith, the manager, and all of his team- who could not have been friendlier. Kinasi has an excellent scuba dive centre right next door. Would highlight the expert tuition, guidance and enthusiasm of its manager, Jim, whose extraordinary knowledge of the coral and fish greatly contributed to some fantastic dives.

"Outstanding service in a lovely setting"

   17-07-2016
We experienced an exceptionally high level of service from the staff at all levels who were always so friendly. This was right from the top with the owner Antonella who was there at the beginning of our stay down to cleaners and security personnel. Jennifer the Manageress was always present supervising the efficient running of the resort and any requests were promptly attended to. Meals were always well presented, very tasty and varied. Hendrik the dive manager and Ebrahim dive master who ran the dive operation made sure that dives took place on time at at the best location for prevailing conditions. With most of Mafia Island being a marine reserve for 21 years the fish and reef life is by far the best we have encountered on the East African coast. The area is not commercialised and if you want a peaceful stay in a small paradise then Kinasi Lodge is the place.

"We didn't have a pleasant experience so cannot recomend it."

   27-05-2016
Our room seemed ok but the fan was really noisy and you couldn't sleep with it on. We stayed here for one night and had clearly advised them that we needed one Vegan meal. Unfortunately this did not seem to have been communicated through to the kitchen and no vegan meal materialised. On top of it we were made to feel very uncomfortable. This didn't make for a pleasant stay so I cannot recommend it.
