Just like you, I spent lots of time on TripAdvisor reading reviews for hotels in Zanzibar. I will make this short. I have attached some pictures: • It is not the cheapest hotel but if you are searching for quality in terms of accommodation, food, cleanliness, and beach quiet (unlike neighboring hotels which are party/drunk dens), and good access to the beach, then this should be your choice. My wife and did five days which was indeed too long for me. If I were to do this again, I would do it at the tail end of safari and only for maximum of two days, • Food: we are both gluten free. I was amazed to how the Staff accommodated our food allergy needs i.e. every evening, they posted the set menu for the day. We would go over the menu (two hours before dinner) and tell them what needed to be adjusted. For dinner, you pick your own table and get the top service • We didn’t pay for the “private-rooms adjacent to the beachâ€. This property is situated next to the beach so event the farthest room is only one-minute walking distance to the beach. Plus, take note that other people will be lounging next to your “beach side or beach front†cabana • Hotel has two very nice pools. The furthest pool – way from lobby area is away quiet and not congested at all. Plus, it offers better view of the beach (see my pictures). • Vaccinations: the staff at the little airport in Zanzibar are “pesky†about vaccinations i.e. yellow fever so get the jab before you leave home. Generally, it is an island so prone to usual tropical weather i.e. sun mixed with sudden brief rain • Mosquitoes: yes, there are mosquitoes. Staff will tell you that mosquitoes here don’t bite but my wife was beaten so many times. So, bring the mosquitoes sprays • A/C: Might not be important to you but most places don’t have air conditioning. This hotel had good A/C system • Internet: yes, I know it is a vacation and no one need internet but be warned, it is very slow and sporadic • For transportation, we relied on the hotel i.e. paid for airport pickup/drop off etc. Best to avoid local taxis as they will not only jack up prices but there is latent crime though compared to level of criminality in Kenya, Zanzibar is indeed a paradise, • Depending on your location, the island is prone to high-low tides which impact beaches • Beach boys: After previously vacationing on Mombasa, and Caribbean Islands, I thought I had seen it all but the beach boys in Zanzibar are not only a menace but can also physically threaten you. No matter how much we try to ignore them, they constantly engaged us or hurl abuses. They will try pushing you to buy cheap plastic trinkets that are heavily priced. One thing you should avoid is showing any interest i.e. asking for prices, haggling, or even telling them that you “will considerâ€. Also avoid telling them name of hotel where you are staying. They will take your word as an assurance that you are ready to purchase their products, and will show up and demand payment. The beach boys in Zanzibar tend to work in groups so watch out. Also, I call them “fake masai†as you will notice that most of them are dressed in the traditional red masai gab. If you really want to buy trinkets in a safe environment, the Paradise Hotel had a masai night whereby during dinner, on one of the nights, they invited locals to parade their products to hotel guests • Culture: majority of locals follow the strict Wahhabis religious practices of Saudi Arabia. At the beaches, you don’t have to cover up but just something to keep in mind when in public spaces etc.
"Indeed a paradise "
We spent 4 nights at this once in lifetime boutique resort after a safari at the mainland. We had one of the bungalows A2 facing the pool/beach. The manager did her out most best to please us, she succeed more than expected. For sure one of the best resorts on the Island or ever seen
"Great Boutique Hotel"
We stayed for four nights in a family room and it was excellent! Great staff and service was fantastic. The food was prepared fresh every day and you could either get half board or full board included in the price of the hotel, so you could have the flexibility to do other things. We took side trips during our stay that we booked through the hotel, this was easy and safe. Stone Town was well worth it, but we were not impressed by Prison Island. The only draw back is that it is an hour each way to get to and from the airport. We would recommend and stay here again.
"A fantastic hotel"
We stayed here for 6 nights during out honeymoon and we absolutely loved it. The rooms were always very clean and the evening meals were some of the best we've had. The small and boutique style of the hotel meant we could relax on sun loungers in peace all day. Staff were very friendly and helpful, always willing to go the extra mile. The hotel also provides a tennis court, table tennis table and push bikes which made a nice break from sunbathing. We would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a peaceful, tranquil escape.
We stayed at Next Paradise back in July as part of our honeymoon. After Safari and trekking Mountain Gorillas this place was just what we needed. Nestled amongst sand, palm trees and a small village, Next Paradise is peaceful and relaxed haven. The look of the hotel is wonderful with beautiful African carvings and furniture. The gardens which surround the rooms are well looked after, you awake to the sound of birds, the waves (when the tide isn't out). The food here is exceptional, every night a four course spectacular. Every night a different menu, if you wanted to change anything on the menu you can liked. It was a mainly fish menu, a particular favourite was the Tuna steak which was some of the best we have ever had. Breakfast was buffet style and plentiful. There was something for everyone with fresh fruits, cakes, bread and then you order from the menu for hot food like eggs and sausage all very delicious. The beach is stunning, soft white sand and the most stunning sea so many shades of blue. Maybe it's the location but we were rarely hassled or maybe it was the Masai security that kept them away?!? Staff were super friendly and very helpful, always smiling making our holiday extra special. We stayed in the Panorama room which had a wonderful view of the sea which was lovely to watch sunrise/sunset on the veranda. Rooms were cleaned daily with a wonderful bed decoration everyday, a wonderful touch. The two pools were also great, always a lounger for you, as the sea is quite shallow the pools were lovely for a dip. We also got to put our reef shoes on and discover what was out in the shallows, which was brilliant.. We were also very lucky to have a romantic dinner on the beach on our last night, a great way to end the holiday. I highly recommend Next Paradise, with the most perfect. romantic setting it makes an ideal honeymoon venue or a treat and safari...
