"Good place, but not like we've expected."
Our experience in Royal Zanzibar Bech Resort was ok, but : - something wrong happened with the food, because we've felt bad for a few days and there were also other guests complaining; - during the night the conditioning air get broken and our luggages were all wet - a waitress from the beach restaurant told me that my dress was too short(i was coming from the pool and is not really a restaurant, is a terrace close to the ocean) and i need to cover more - no problem till here, but why were other womens in restaurant with transparent dresses and also without and nobody had a problem with them? Our vacation wasn't what we've expected for....and is the first time that is happening to not have a good vacation. The hotel has a good structture , but is nothing finest or special, except the infinity pool and the location. The views are really nice.Is a good hotel, not special. SPECIAL was our private dinner on the beach: the food was amazing and worths every euro spent. The staff is so nice, I've had a lot of fun with ALI (aqua-gym, voleyball) and he was there all the time to help us with everything; also the others employees were nice. I would like to say hello to all of them and also to say thanks, because they were ready to help you , especially Ali. There was also Salim that tried to make us feel better by giving us something like a medicine - to help our stomaches. He was nice to search us all the time and ask how do we feel. The romanian girl :)
"SUPERB OCEANIC PARADISE ON THE SPICE ISLAND"
We visited Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort during the Easter break of 2017, for five nights. The resort is about an hour plus away from the International airport. Zanzibar, is a paradise in Africa, and this is evident from the Airport itself, where there are not many questions asked, unlike mainland nations. The trip to the Hotel itself is amazing as you pass through the spice farm territory. The entrance to the resort is grand, with a massive reception. The check in is reasonably fast, and the staff from the reception area to the house keeping, waitering and kitchen are just too good. The rooms are massive compared to some properties in Mombasa, Kenya, another beach destination. The rooms are kept immaculately clean throughout the day by the staff. The rooms are fitted with superb ACs. The food is delicious, as the vegetables and fruits from Zanzibar are organic and delicious. There is a la carte dining and your requests are generally accommodated well. The waitering and kitchen staff go out of their way to ensure your special dietary requirements are met. The choice in the buffet was beyond expectation. We had a member, who follows a Jain diet and her needs were catered for. There are 5 swimming pools including one infinity pool and a pool bar in one of the pools. The pools are kept very clean and they are not that deep. Therefore, any guest who cannot swim properly can still enjoy the beautiful weather and sun. The beach is kept clean by the resort staff and white sandy beaches just mellow the heart down, as soon as you see it. The area is on the northern shore of Ugunja Island, and one of the best resort areas. Overall, the staff go out of their way to make you happy and ensure you are treated like a Royal.
"wonderful Anniversary get away !"
The one day of the year my Husband and I hold near and dear is our Anniversary ! Thank you Royal Zanzibar for making it seamless ! The food is plentiful and there could be no reason to complain, as I am on a very special lifestyle in regards to food, and there was so much to choose from ! And I might add super healthy and fresh ! The Indian Chef was not only amazing with making sure I had everything I needed , but was incredibly friendly and very good sense of humour ! The F and B manager is an ever present figure who ensures everything is on point .A very pleasant young man ! Our room had a glitch... a leaky toilet , when I alerted the management , they came in 5 minutes , assessed it and they informed us we should to be moved. This transaction was done in less than 30 min !Efficiency plus and the complimentary bottle of wine was not forgotten : ) The night of our Anniversary although the staff of Samaki Restaurant by the ocean had arranged a special dinner, we opted to stay in the larger dining room because we enjoyed the family atmosphere and the staff. There are alot of beach boys, however we followed the advise of the in room info and we told them all of our tours are included in our package, but we wish them much luck ...it works. Thank you Royal for making Anniversary so special , and to the Owners who had the foresight to build such a stunning property !
We found the Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort to be one of the finest resorts we have ever stayed at. Staying on the north coast is a must as Stone Town is chaotic and dirty. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The resort is all inclusive which proved to be a great savings. We were in awe of the display of elaborate and tasteful food offered at every meal. Our days were spent near the infinity pool which overlooked the Indian Ocean, and proved to be our favorite spot! In the evenings we were thrilled to find that our beds were turned down with flower petals arranged on the spread and a canopy of netting drawn around the bed!
"Lovely resort but....."
Royal Zanzibar is a really lovely resort. The beach is beautiful and having walked the length of the beach in both directions, Royal definately has the very best spot(although the hawkers are a pain). The staff are wonderful, the rooms and the pools are huge and well kept and housekeeping is spot on, however, there are a few points that let it down for us. Firstly the food. There is always a large selection but the quality was not always so good. I was surprised at the lack of fresh fish and seafood which I would have expected daily. Grilled calamari everyday is a little boring. There is a pasta and pizza station which at times was the best option as it is made to order so guaranteed fresh. The mango's were delicious! The timings to eat are very regimented, the kitchen closes at 9.30pm and there is no room service. If you're out all day and hoping to grab a bite late evening, you're out of luck. The 3 or 4 cats that wonder around during dinner is also a negative. The wine was boxed wine which again, I was a little surprised about . The local spirits were ok. They do have decent bottles of wine at an extra cost which were better than the boxed wine. The all inclusive package stops at 11pm which is absolutely fine but then the hotel dies. On Friday night we could hear a bit of life from a beach party at a resort up the road - not far but too far to walk. We asked reception to get us a cab, they couldn't but told us that if we booked for the same time the next night they could do it. There is a great outside area above the beach bar which is never used - it's such a waste. There is nowhere to get cash in Nungwi. I asked the hotel to charge to my card and give me the cash, they would not do this but advised another hotel we could walk to and they would help us. Overall our stay was really lovely we just would have expected a little higher standard of food and drink for the cost of our stay. A few tips -If you need cash, Amaan Bungalows up the beach (turn right out of the hotel) will charge to your card and give you cash. You need a copy of your passport and they add on 10% -pre-book your car from the airport through the hotel. It's double the price but worth it -Tell the hawkers on the beach you've already done it, got it, bought it - they will get bored and leave you alone. -take breakfast in Samaki. The selection is limited compared to the main restaurant but the coffee and the view is much nicer -you need at least 1 clear page in your passport, the visa on arrival takes up the entire page. Have $50 each on arrival for your visa -yellow fever certificate is only required if you're travelling from a country where yellow fever is a risk OR if you've had a stop over, for 12 hours or more, in a country where yellow fever is a risk
