We checked in on a Monday evening, carried our own bags to our rooms and were escorted to three rooms next to each other (6 travellers in total) - however, even though FLOOR 6 has non-smoking rooms, it's clear that people smoke heavily in the rooms. Although this is the case, NON SMOKING, there are ash trays outside all of the elevators encouraging people to smoke in the communal areas. The facilities in the hotel room are good - two bottles of fresh water daily, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, combs etc. The bed was comfortable. We got breakfast at the hotel ONCE - and didn't go back. Not too fresh. Anyway, the best thing about this hotel is the location. It's a 5 minute walk from the metro/starbucks/ MUSLIM street which is the best! Apart from that, it doesn't have much going for it. We went to the foyer to have an evening drink and even though they have a full bar with a full drinks menu, they didn't have a glass of wine. Next time, I would not stay here, but try to find a hotel in the similar area. Helpful hint: We had the best tour guide! Search Mary in the forums - not related to the hotel. And I see they do a little scamming re:taxis in the other posts.
"Awful staff in an average hotel in a great location!!!"
The staff were the most unfriendly and unhelpful I've ever experienced in over forty years of world travel. The receptionists glared at us as if they hated us. The doorman tried to force us to take his buddy's taxi to the Terracotta Warriors. He followed us around harassing us and then laughing at us when we insisted that we would get our own cheaper taxi. Which we did at half the price demanded by the doorman. The receptionist refused to overrule the doorman and order a taxi for us, we had to go out and hail one on the street. When we checked in we were hungry after a long flight and we found a coffee shop behind reception. We ordered food from the menu to be told they don't serve food...ever and that the nearest restaurant was across the street. We found out later that there was a restaurant in the hotel serving at that very time! Worst of all. I checked in, left my luggage in the room and went away for the day. On my return that night I discovered two strangers in my room. They had allocated my room to somebody else!!! I couldn't get in to get my belongings without making a loud fuss and embarrassing scene. I did get a free breakfast out of the next morning but I could have done without the stress and drama. The location is superb and the rooms are average for the price.
Stayed a couple of nights with my girlfriend & her father. The staff was very unhelpful & moody. Rooms were not ready on time for us to check in. Wanted to go to Terra-cotta army so we asked them to call us a taxi. They said we had to use hotel car to go which was over priced & refused to call us a taxi making us go to the street outside to flag one down ourselves. This in itself was enough to make the stay unpleasant but when we returned late in the night from visiting sites we found that they had moved another couple into my GF's father' room even though he still had his luggage in the there. Ended up having to retrieve his luggage & move to a different room.
"Don't stay here. "
I'm wrapping up a 4 night stay at this hotel and it's a mess. My bathroom ceiling has paint and plaster peeling off with black mold present. The tile all around the bath tub / shower has dirty black mold in all the corners and edges. The air conditioning doesn't work and when I inquired I was told it's under a 2 month maintenance period, so it won't come on during my visit. In general the room is shabby, worn & dirty. The breakfast buffet is below average. The location is great but this place needs a complete renovation.
"AVOID THIS HOTEL- DON'T BE SUCKED IN BY LOCATION!"
Excellent location; Close to Muslim quarter, Bell and Drum towers and shops. BUt Rooms are mouldy and bathrooms are very old and smelly. Only one tiny piece of soap for shower and basin. Breakfast was a joke, Plastic mugs for non existent juice, When brought to the managers attention he pointed to the tetra packs of juice; warm. No yogurt. Tables are NOT LAID!!!!! you need to do this yourself. Food is not replenished in a hurry or at all. Crowded with school students; gives it an auro of a glorified camp.
