"Stay here for view and location"
The Bell Tower is a big, older hotel just opposite the ancient and stunning Bell Tower. We paid for a room with a view and could not have been happier, especially at night when the Bell Tower is illuminated. Noise was not an issue. The room was clean, tidy and comfortable. The breakfast room was very crowded the first day, but no problem on the subsequent three days with lots of choices, both Western and Chinese. The bar served only beer and wine, but there is a 'bar street' nearby with it's own friendly and funky atmosphere. You could pay more for a fancier hotel outside the city walls, but why would you when you can walk to everything from here. Tip: the travel agency on the second floor booked us a group day trip in a small bus to the Terracotta Warriors with an English-speaking guide at a reasonable price. They also recommended seeing the Tang Dynasty dumpling dinner and dance show, which we did on the same day as seeing the Warriors. The show was fantastic and we enjoyed the dinner too so I recommend it, but I would do it on a separate day from seeing the Warriors as it was too rushed to get from the tour to the show.
The rooms were dirty, dated, and worst of all smelled of smoke. There are "no smoking" signs posted everywhere, including on the door to each room, but it was not enforced at all. People were smoking everywhere. Hallways, lobby, restaurant, hotel cafe, etc. We traveled with another couple and both of our "non-smoking" rooms reeked like smoke. Please note the amenities listed are wrong. There is no spa/fitness center and no free breakfast. The staff was just okay. Pretty non-helpful and didn't speak great English. To be honest it was the worst hospitality we experienced in all of China. The only positive is that it's in a great location, right in the middle of everything in Xi'an. A cheap, centrally located place to sleep. Two stars is generous.
Great location.....hotel rooms clean and tidy. Only had breakfast in hotel and there was a good selection for western or local food. Room had everything you would need...a hairdryer too. Chinese traffic can be noisy but we were located to the back so it was a lot quieter. Reception was efficient. Would return if visiting Xi'an again. Hotel is located near the Food Market...which is a must to visit. Hotel also near Xi'an City Wall which was wonderful...the gardens situated around where lovely. Not the most modern hotel but I have been in worse. Go and see for yourself.
"Perfect location inside the Xi'an walls"
This hotel is in a great location within the Xi'an walls. Lots of tourist sites within walking distance and easy access to mass transit. I had a room facing the Bell Tower, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I could hear noise from the traffic below but it wasn't enough to bother me. The Hotel is tired and a bit rundown but room was clean. WiFi was slow but adequate for sending a few emails and uploading a couple of pictures.
"Average Hotel but Convenient"
Situated within the Xi'an city walls, the hotel is only a few minutes walk from the Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Muslim Food Street, The great Xi'an Muslim Mosque, the City Wall and shopping outlets of all levels and food eateries. The reception appeared rough but it's just Xi'an style of communication. No offence. There are two lifts but one is always out of order. We get two room cards but one card is always not functioning. There's free Wi-Fi but most of the time we couldn't download photos and videos. There are always some staff of a travel agency at the lobby to help arrange local tours and charges are reasonable. We had a room facing the car park and hence quieter. Its very much affordable at about RMB450 per night.
