Over Tibet Hotel

Stayed two nights as part of our china tour (mercury holidays). After a five and a half hour coach trip from chongqinq we arrived at the hotel at around 2.15pm only to be told our rooms were not ready, we were told as a group to wait in the lobby area, at 3.10pm we were finally given our room keys, room 1403, no apology given for the delay. The room was by far the best room we stayed in during the tour very spacious, the bed was too soft for my liking, large bathroom with bath and separate shower. We got very little sleep as work was in progress on building site next door to hotel which went on all through the night. Not the hotels fault but still a nuisance. Breakfast was served in the smallish yak café on the 2nd floor, food was plentiful and very tasty, hot food was hot which made a change. There is a kids corner where the children can help themselves to some sweets to take with them, they can also take a small yak toy. Hotel has reasonable location a short walk to shopping street. After an unfortunate start to our stay, everything else excellent, would recommend this hotel.
Unfortunately we only stayed for one night and wished we could have stayed longer. The room was large, comfortable and well maintained. The hotel was fabulous internally despite its deceptively plain exterior. Staff were lovely and food was plentiful and tasty.
From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out the hotel did not fail to impress. The staff at reception were very friendly, and completed the check-in process as efficiently as Chinese requirements allow. Whilst checking in we were offered a glass of tea, which I found refreshing, with a pleasant citrus flavour, but my partner thought tasted like dishwater! All of the facilities at the hotel were properly explained to us. We were directed to our room, deciding not to use a porter. The room was easily found. The key card took several attempts to activate the lock, but that was probably us, rather than a problem with the lock. The room was generously sized and spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable, but it was on the hard side. There were plenty of pillows, and plenty of bedding. The room decor was neutral and soothing, having a pleasant brown theme. The bathroom was very large, very clean and pleasant. However, the basin was on the low side, and the shower screen between the shower and the toilet would have better if it had been frosted. Clear glass is not the best! The tea making facilities in the room seemed rather odd from a Western perspective. From a Chinese perspective they were normal, apparently The only issue I had with the hotel was the restaurant, which supposedly offered buffet and a la carte. Despite several requests the staff insisted we wanted the buffet. We decided this was the path of least resistance. It offers good value for money, but the options are understandably focused on Chinese customers. Incidentally, if you at a vegetarian you will need to eat outside as there was only one vegetarian option in the buffet. Drinks were included in the buffet price. The breakfast was reasonable, but again focused on their Chinese customers. The eggs were always fried on both side. Trying to get them cooked differently was a real challenge as staff spoke little English. Breakfast was not crowded or rushed and was a pleasant experience. Staff at check out were equally efficient and friendly as those when we checked-in. The process was completed relatively quickly, although the credit card payment was troublesome, but this was not the fault of the hotel staff. Overall a very pleasant stay.
"A real find."
Immediately on our arrival we were given a complementary upgrade to a deluxe room. If this was a deluxe room I would have loved to have seen a superior room. Our room was very spacious and the bathroom was as big as most bedroom in other hotels on this trip. The mini bar was very reasonable and the tea making facilities were exquisite. The bathroom had a bath, a shower. a WC and a hand basin and the décor was very impressive. The hotels photos do not do the place justice. I thoroughly recommend this hotel
"Luxury at budget prices "
Stayed for 2 nights as part of a tour group. The exterior of the hotel is deceptive, quite ordinary looking. Once inside however, we were greeted with a refreshing iced fruit tea and welcomed into the elegant lobby area before being checked into our rooms. All the public areas are tastefully decorated with Tibetan style art pieces and there is a refreshing yet subtle aroma of incense pervading throughout. Our room on the 10th floor was absolutely fabulous with an extremely comfortable huge kingsized bed, comfy armchair with foot stool, drinks cabinet which also held the fridge and a tv that could swivel round to allow you to watch in the bathroom! The bathroom was 1st class with a spacious walk-in power shower, bathtub and plenty of counter space to hold beautifully presented quality complimentary toiletries. Lots of little extra touches such as a complimentary pillow menu, special tea and tea set as well as the usual coffee tea bags, a small gift (Tibetan style neckcharm) left on your turned down bed and thick fluffy robes and slippers made this an outstanding hotel for me. The breakfast room was very well organised and tended, self service with a vast array of choices, everything from fresh fruit to dim sum to omelettes made to order and much much more. Fabulous! The hotel bar has a limited yet fairly priced cocktail menu which we took advantage of whilst relaxing on comfy sofas, listening to the resident pianist entertain us. Couldn't believe the price for a room here! Amazing value for money! Would definitely stay again!
