"I hope you will improve!"

I stayed in Peninsula 18 to 25 Oct and from 13 to 19 Nov. There are many things which are exceptional with the hotel which you would come to expect from a brand which prides itself a tier above the rest however sadly there were many things which led to some great disappointment. I am writing this review with the hope that Peninsula can do and will do better. Things which went wrong during my stay: - My DHL parcel went missing and was never sent to my room. Only after four days, and after I chased it up, they found my parcel. Accidents happen, this is a human error which is forgivable. - At breakfast, I was served a glass of juice, the lady dressed in a suit jacket poured the juice all over the glass and dripping the juice on the floor and then served me the juice. I was left with sticky hands and a wet table cloth. I would consider this as poor standard, etiquette or poor training. - Lunch at Yi Long Court, when ordering my lunch, I asked the waitress if there were any specialties or dim sum which you do particularly well or any suggestions. She answered me that there was nothing special, it was all standard dim sum. I asked her so there is no difference with your dim sum compared to other places, she said no. She then offered to share with me what were the popular orders at the restaurant. Poor training. - Asking for an umbrella at the door, i was met with no response. The person I spoke to just quickly yelled "aiii" to his junior colleague next to him and then the junior warned me to return it when I get back. Not a very friendly exchange. - Sent my shirts for pressing and out of 5 shirts, 3 shirts now have holes between the sleeves and cuffs. Emailed the hotel and the hotel offered to compensate by waiving the fee on the laundry service, or providing me with some f and b vouchers or an upgrade during my next stay. If I ripped the curtains in the room of your hotel can I offer to buy you a meal too? Whilst I appreciate the promptness of the response, the offer to compensate should be more measured or you risk offending your guest. I also hope that the level of service is the same for Chinese speaking guest such as myself and a westerner. It would also be the same whether I am wearing a t shirt or a suit. Like I said before, there are many great things, great staff to be mentioned but sadly a few things which really led the brand name down. I look forward to a better Hong Kong Shanghai Hotels Limited in the future.

"Excellent Hotel in a great location"

The hotel is just off the Bund and is an excellent choice in Shanghai. The bar has indoor and outdoor seating and has an area to smoke a cigar which is always a nice touch. Everything about this hotel is what you would expect from the Peninsula.

"Best hotel ever"

This hotel has it all. There is supreme luxury in all aspects in our Deluxe River Room and the public spaces of the hotel. Size of room, comfort of bed and living space, bathroom, window view, concierge and staff are all excellent. The dressing room and bathroom are huge and with 2 sinks + TV for bathtub. We were greeted with chocolates and fruit in our living room area of the bedroom equipped with a refrigerator, a coffee maker, and so many control buttons that it takes about 20 minutes to figure them out. The restaurants and roof top bar are expensive but very good. Splurge for the breakfast.

"Noise polution"

Staying in a suite, so one of the nicer rooms at >600$, and I can here the elevators, I think 6 elevators dinging all the time. Impossible! It gets better, it's not the elevators stopping on my floor, but the ding they make before stopping above and below me. The nerve this hotel has to sell you a 5star top shelve room with such a poor noise insulation. The ding is a notification ding, so it pierces and carries, and once it annoys you it keeps you awake. It's like a constant test message alert. Done with this place, whatever may be good, is meaningless if one can't sleep. Also, doors shut with a clang, so forget gliding soft lock doors... I'm sure I actually paid more like >800....now that I recall, I will make sure nobody I know stays here. There is a stack of hotels at 400 with great rooms and a good nights rest in Shanghai. Unfortunately they don't care as there is a shortage at times.... Or to be safe go to my favorite the Park Hyatt

"Absolutely the Best."

The Peninsula Shanghai is definitely a luxury experience the minute you enter. The lobby is beautifully decorated this time of the year with Christmas ornaments and grand floral pieces. Service was standard but good; not over the top amazing but great compared to other places in China. Service staff spoke reasonably good English for those who aren't mandarin speaking. We got a Deluxe Garden room overlooking the peaceful greener. The rooms were spacious and the bed was really large and comfortable. What I really liked was they had 2 separate sinks in the bathroom, a huge convenience you would appreciate! The bath is also really large and very nice for a soak at the end of a long day. Apart from the room, the hotel pool was nothing short of amazing. It was lightly heated which made it a joy to swim in and there's also a hot jacuzzi for you to enjoy soaking in. We only had the hotel breakfast for a morning and it was great. Unlike a typical hotel breakfast buffet, the Peninsula offers an array of breakfast dishes from the traditional western to Japanese/Asian dishes. There's a small buffet of cold cuts, cheeses and breads/pastries to accompany the main courses as well. You can also order more than one main course if it does not fill you up! My only gripe was that the water pressure for the rain-shower could be stronger, and that it would be good if we could control the AC in the room. There was only an option to adjust the humidity for the room and it did get a tad stuffy in the night.
