Over Qunci Villas

A wonderful hotel, beautiful setting and some of the most helpful staff you are likely to encounter. The food was absolutely delightful. I didn’t have one bad meal here. The breakfasts were a particular highlight for me. I would definitely recommend staying here.
What a lovely resort, the location is amazing. Right on the beach. The customer service levels are great. They are very warm and helpful. Our room was great, standard with regards to size. Amazing breakfast options and excellent value with there in house tours options. We would stay here again
"The Elephant in the Room"
As an avid TA reader and reviewer, I like to share a truthful and helpful review for the benefit of fellow travellers so forgive me if this is slightly long. I took considerable time in selecting the best hotel for our holiday in Lombok. TA is my main source of information and if anything in the reviews concerns me, I will follow up with the hotel prior to booking to ensure there are no unexpected issues on arrival. This is exactly the same process I followed when choosing and booking our stay at Qunci. So let's talk about the 'elephant in the room', meaning an obvious problem that no one wants to talk about or is politically incorrect. Noise from the Mosque. I'm surprised only a few TA reviewers mention this in passing. Perhaps they didn't want to be politically incorrect or seemingly coped well with the 4.30 am Call to Prayer. This is very LOUD and lasts for 45 mins, amplified by a loud speaker! My first contact with Qunci via email was for their recommendation for a quiet room due to this issue. I received an honest and prompt reply stating that wherever we stay at Qunci we will hear the noise from the Mosque. Qunci suggested an Ocean View room furthest from the Mosque. We hoped to book such a room but unfortunately there was no availability for the first two nights of our stay. We did go ahead and book, assuming that as per our request for a quiet room, our Part Ocean View room for the first two nights would be in a somewhat quiet area of the resort. Obviously not! It was staggering just how loud this noise is at 4.30am, it was as though the loud speaker was in our room! Occasionally, when there was a lull, I prayed it had finished, but no, we soon discovered it goes on for 45 mins or even longer and more frequently in Ramadan. There is no way you can fall back to sleep and it's another 2 hours to breakfast! I realise I'm in a predominately Muslim country and do value other religious beliefs and practices. My issue isn't with the Mosque but with Qunci who are fully aware of which rooms are quiet and which are noisy, (something guests figure out a few days into their stay). It was disappointing that Qunci didn't honour our request for a quiet room even though our booking was made over three months in advance. As we became familiar with the resort and surroundings, after the first horrendous night we enquired about which Ocean View Villa we had been allocated for the remainder of our stay, to ensure it would meet our 'quiet' specifications. Unfortunately this was Villa 50, right next door to the restaurant with constant noise emanating from the large extractor fan. We discussed our options with reception who happily reallocated us to Villa 25 - perfect! We endured one more night in Villa 78, then thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our stay. The Mosque noise is very subdued here, by distance and ocean sounds. So if a quiet and restful stay, with a good night's sleep is part of your holiday agenda, then your room selection/allocation at Qunci is vital. Insist on a Partial or Ocean View Villa furthest from the Mosque. These are on the left hand side of the property on the boundary with the Sudamala Resort. We were also told by our neighbouring guests in Villa 30, that the ground floor rooms are even quieter, as they don't have the thatched style roof which lets in more noise. However, the issue with these is lack of privacy, as other guests can see straight in, unless the curtains are closed, but that defeats the point of an Ocean View room. All of this could have been avoided if our request was fulfilled. Rant over... moving on to the great aspects of our stay. The grounds are amazing, well kept and lush. There are 3 inviting pools with plenty of shade and comfy day beds and loungers. We loved watching the locals give surfing lessons to the tourists and their cheers of delight when their student rode their first wave! We enjoyed two massages in the spa and took advantage of the 'early bird' 2 for 1 offer before 11am. We then tried the local massage ladies under the Sala by the beach. This too was a very good massage for much less. The ladies seem to have a conspiracy going on with the sarong ladies up the other end of the beach! Just as your massage is finishing, the Sarong ladies come down to sell you their wares. You can always so 'no', but in the 5 days we were at Qunci, we only saw them get one sale, so I was happy to purchase from these hard working ladies. The rooms are well laid out and clean, although not big, and have an outside shower and toilet. The bed is large and comfortable and the aircon works well. The real highlight for me was the quality and choice for breakfast. The waffles and French Toast with accompaniments were truly light and delicious. The staff were very helpful and soon remembered my husband's specific coffee order, the flavour he couldn't fault. We enjoyed several other meals in the Asian restaurant, but found the Italian restaurant expensive when taking into consideration the portion size, so we only dined there once. We aren't one's to make a fuss, but have learnt to let staff know at the time when issues arise. We did have a few inconveniences which were dealt with promptly, apologetically and with a smile. It was a bit disconcerting that our WIFI was cut off immediately on our final day and believe it would have been courteous to leave us connected until checkout time. As it was Mothers' Day I was hoping to connect with family before commencing a long forward journey. Yes I'm sure had I raised the issue it would have been resolved, but sometimes you just shouldn't have too. Notwithstanding this our stay did end on a high with the help of the hotel's delightful driver taking us to the airport. 'Oscar' shared the amusing story about how got his knickname, taught himself English and other interesting anecdotes about life on Lombok. When deciding a property's TA rating, I take into consideration both hotels amenities, and the ability of the hotel and staff to meet and anticipate my needs without the need to prompt and complain, hence my 4 star ranking for Qunci.
"Great spot in Lombok"
Really enjoyed our stay here for five nights. Staff was super friendly especially the front desk and the sunsets were wonderful. Loved the ocean view bungalows and the constant breeze. Only con is the harder type bed however value for money was really good.
We stayed in an ocean view room and the other couple stated in a partial ocean view room. The rooms were spacious, spotless, beautifully decorated and maintained immaculately. The bathrooms are large with a large beautiful outdoor shower (shower undercover and outdoor area beside). Hotel gounds are beyond clean and kept spotless with gardeners and groundsmen working all the time and their great work really shows. The restaurants - Well, the restaurant's are some of the best food we have EVER had and we have had the pleasure of travelling and eating great food. Not once in our 5 night stay did we have a questionable meal, all meals were freshly prepared and the taste was just amazing. The Italian restaurant, Indonesian food and breakfast all fall into a category of perfection. I did read people mentioning the price of the restaurant's but it was not over priced at all for what you get. Pools - All 3 pools overlook the beautiful ocean and are kept clean, free of any plantation or sand, making swimming very enjoyable. The deck chairs are comfy and day beds, well let's just say I caught a few z's in them (comfy for me being pregnant). Staff - Well done to ALL the staff within the hotel, the owner/manager should be very proud as all staff are friendly, helpful, happy and English is spoken great. Keep in mind I am writing this review whilst 7 months pregnant, so I am also more picky/fussy than normal and I can still find no faults for our stay at Qunci Villas. I sincerely loved our stay at Qunci Villas and will hopefully one day return again :) Thank you Qunci Villas for our amazing stay.
