Dit hotel is uitermate geschikt voor koppels, maar is vanwege alle aanwezige faciliteiten ook een goede accommodatie voor families. Voor de kinderen is er onder meer een Kids Club en een games room. Van oudsher is het eiland Penang voor de noordwestkust het bekendste strandgebied van Maleisië. De hoofdplaats Georgetown is een uniek samenraapsel van Maleise, Chinese, Indiase en Brits-koloniale architectuur.
Op strandliefhebbers oefent het strand Batu Ferringhi grote aantrekkingskracht uit. Bijna altijd zon, gezellige bars, prima restaurants en uitstekende hotels met vele faciliteiten. Penang heeft een luchthaven alsmede een brug- en veerverbinding met Butterworth op het vasteland.

"Don't do it!! Dirty and tired !"

Hello! A few years ago my very good friend stayed here and highly recommended it!! Twelve days ago we stayed next door in The Shangrila Rasa Sayang in the Rasa wing and although we knew it wouldn't be AS good, we thought, as it's a "Shangrila" it would be ok. How wrong could we be!!! Day 1. Check in. First thing I noticed was there are no doors to the hotel and so no air conditioning in public areas which isn't good!! The team were pleasant enough and check in seemed to be ok. We were told we had been up graded and shown to our room on the 4th floor. The corridors were damp smelling, grubby, mouldy around AC units with the wallpaper peeling off. Upon entering our room we were greeted with a strong smell of stale cigarettes!! We asked to be moved. We were shown to a room on the first floor which was better. I had just unpacked when I was told we couldn't stay in the room because there was no hot water on that floor!! We had to pack and move to a room on the 6th floor which was ok but very tired looking and it could have been cleaner. The views are lovely. We decided to explore the hotel and found among other things, a Computer/games/reading room for children as well as adults. I truly believe this room is a health risk. The smell of mould is overpowering. It's either coming from the AC units or under the carpet!! We weren't told where or when breakfast, lunch, snacks or dinner would be served or what entertainment there would be. We didn't know there was a gym, shops, a hairdresser or anything. That night we had cocktails in the bar on happy hour. At MYR 28-32 they ought to have been good. NO!! There was a 30% off for Happy Hour. The waitress although lovely, didn't have a clue how to make them. My cosmopolitan came in a half pint glass with ice and my husbands mojito had white sugar and lemon in it. She was desperate for praise and repeatedly came back to us for reassurance everything was ok. She obviouslynever had any training on how to make cocktails!!! at that prices I expect a good cocktail!! Day 2 Oh my, the breakfast!!! All I can say is "what the hell". It was like a bun fight!! We had to sit and wait along with many others for our table to be ready. It was chaos!! Total chaos!! The noise level was unbelievable and I felt stressed. We sunbathed after breakfast but found people had reserved tables with towels which isn't usually allowed. We wanted to sunbathe on the beach but there were no beds plus the fumes from the jet ski and speedboats was overpowering. The day was ok. Day 3. - checkout can't come soon enough. So we have checked out now and awaiting our Uber to the airport and we weren't asked how our stay was at the hotel!!! Summary 1. Great for children especially water activities 2. Bad for couples or people who expect a 4* when they book a 4* 3. Dirty, mouldy, smelly 4. No AC in public areas 5. Complimentary flip flops in the room had been previously worn 6. Beautifully maintained gardens 7 some staff are rude but others have true Malaysian hospitality This is definitely not to the standard of a shangrila-la Hotel and I will not be back!

"Pleasant Stay"

Have pretty pleasant stay from 14th-17th May. This trip was arranged for my bf bday. Surprised cake was arranged by F&B staffs in morning during our bf time. Another surprised was the room. The hskp team has decorated bday decor for my bf. What is the most surprising was a bottle of wine complimentary was sent to our room soon after we get back after our long day outside. Apart from all this surprises and arrangement, all other services were great as well. F&b service: Razib and Vinjay (sorry if i spelled wrong) and team were very friendly n great service. Concierge: Robin. Unforgettable smile! Every day gave a great beautiful smile. To have him in the hotel makes every guests staying in hotel felt great. Duty Manager: Samantha. Great pleasant lady. Follow up guest needs. Front office: Not great impression upon first day check in. Thank you for everything. Will be back 😊.

Terrible Cleanliness in the Room and bad service by the hotel staff. Service has decreased drastically in recent Years. Majority of the hotel staff at Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La have no passion to work in Hotel/F&B

Response is fast and good. Any feedback or request hotel will take it serious and action fast. Although this is a family resort. It would be very happening during high seasons. But when is low season, you will enjoy a peaceful stay at this hotel.
