"Unclean, outdated"

Mutiara is the only resort in the jungle. The location is perfect! However, the rooms are not clean (apart from the fact that the rooms are located in the middle of the jungle...) The rooms are outdated. In particular the bathroom and beds were not clean. Breakfast in Mutiara is ok, but nothing special. The same goes for the dinner options in the restaurant. Prices are too high, but Mutiara is the only option on that side of the river bank. Staff in Mutiara very friendly, but they have no eye for offering any extra service. In our opinion, Mutiara is not worth the price paid for. We ended our stay here after two nights and were happy to stay somewhere else.

"Beautiful tropical place"

Fantastic location for exploring the rain forest. Staff were helpful. Food at the restaurant was good. Ask for a cabin with a deck that looks out into the forest. Take the boat up Kuala Tehan to the waterfall. Walk to the swimming hole. Not as many wild animals around the area as hoped for.

"Great place"

Lovely resort too. Dont miss any of the activities like treks, boat rides that they provide at the resort (for a fee). Each one is unique. The canopy walk is my favorite. And for the guide night treks, spend the extra money and take a private guide if you expect to see any animals at all. Be sure to take comfy shoes however coz there's a lot of walking to be done. The food while lovely, is be a bit pricey. Going to this place will however guarantee you bragging rights for having been to the world's oldest rainforest.

"3D2N package stay - great trip! "

Overall trip - amazing experience. Staff were friendly and helpful, the experience is unique and I'll recommend it to everyone! We stayed with Mutiara with the 3D2N package which included a shuttle ride from KL, chalet, jungle night walk, jungle walk, canopy walk and boat ride with swimming. The shuttle arrived and left promptly - only problem was the air con wasn't that great so the 4 hour ride was hot! When we arrived we got a jetty across but will need to pay 1RM per person. The hotel staff were lovely and upgraded us to a chalet suite as we told them we were celebrating our engagement. The chalet was lovely with all the amenities and had a cute little balcony at the back. We were allocated a tour guide for the stay. Jungle walk - great experience. Unfortunately there was a storm before dinner so we didn't see a lot that night. However our guide provided a lot of information on the jungle itself. Jungle walk & canopy - approx 2-3 hours. Trekking through the rainforest, our guide provided us with lots of useful information about the rainforest. We went early on the canopy walk so not a lot of crowd - great for photos. Some of the section was closed off as it need repairing but it was a great experience. Boat & swim - approx 4 hours. Boat ride is around 30 mins and lovely in the afternoon as the sun is shining but a nice breeze as you ride along the river. Then you trek through to the river/cascade for couple hours of swimming and relaxing. Really nice end to the day. Food - our package included all meals. Breakfast buffet had a nice variety, however we went during low season and the lunch and dinner were not buffets. Unfortunately we were not informed this beforehand and when we arrived at restaurant it was a set menu choice. The set menu choices were average and drinks are not included. The food itself was average and I would have preferred to order from the menu instead.

"Jungle is massive"

We arrived at our destination after a four hour coach drive from KL followed by a three hour boat trip from Kuala Tembeling Jetty into the jungle which was all organised by the resort. You could continue in the coach to the resort but we found the boat trip a relaxing way of ending the journey and a good intoduction to the jungle with occasional wildlife such as water buffalo. On arrival the staff were very friendly and our chalet very adequate. The facilities in the resort are a little dated and don't come here if you want r & r in luxury conditions. No TV - aaaaargh!!!! Giant lizard in roof eves - aaaaargh!!!! Monkeys being monkeys - aaaaargh!!!! We immediately signed up for a one hour evening jungle trek where it proceeded to pour down for the entirety. Strangely this seemed to add to the experience as we came across a number of creepy crawlies such as scorpions and snakes. The next day we went on a longer three hour jungle trek which was fun but exhausting and our guide was extremely knowledgable, enthusiastic and helpful. Despite not raining, we ended up nearly as soaked as the evening before due to the heat and humidity. The canopy walk in the tree tops at the end of the trek is not to be missed although could test those with vertigo - you can miss it out if you really wanted. Food at the resort, judging by the breakfasts and lunch we had, was pleasant but basic. However, taking the advice of previous reviews, we took the short boat trip across the river (cost 1RM each) where there are a number of small floating restaurants and where we had very enjoyable evening meals (no alcohol served though). Overall, we had a great stay and would recommend that you do not let any worries you have over a jungle stay put you off.
