Het water is kristalhelder en uitstekend om te snorkelen. Het beste snorkelgebied is bij Pulau Tulai, een klein eilandje ten noordwesten van Tioman.
"What a perfect place!"
What a perfect place! We were a family (child ages 9) of four visiting Japamala mid February for three nights. We came from Singapore, total travel time from Singapore to Japamala was around 6h. From the moment we arrived we felt extremely welcome due to the hospitality of the personnel and their friendly service attitude. I can warmly recommend the Hillside Sarang: Tucked away from the beach inside to lush jungle, the sarang provides a unique place to enjoy the scenery and sounds in the jungle from quite high up (estimate around 15m high from see level). A truly unique experience. Resort is not easy to maintain as it really is built among the jungle. Constant repair is needed and in order to keep leaves and such away from the beaches and pools, the services needs be continues. But Japamala personnel is making sure all this is happening. Buffet breakfast with complimentary options ranging from noodles to eggs to pancakes if a perfect way to start the day. Lunch and dinner menu list is surprisingly long and quality of the food very high. But at the same time pricing was lower than excepted: many of the items were on the range of 40 to 60 RM. I considered this to be a bargain when considering the overall quality and uniqueness of the place. Other nice thing to mention: Complimentary drinks at the peer during sunset, snorkelling during the day, extremely beautiful beach, jungle trekking to Genting, high quality/big sun loungers with big sun shades, beautiful evening lighting etc etc. I can do nothing more than give my recommendation. This was the best holiday we have had.
"A piece of tropical paradise!"
We had really high expectations of Japamala and they delivered on every level. If you are looking for an away from the world exclusive retreat then there cannot be many better places to visit. Email communication was exemplary throughout the booking process and our private resort speed boat was on time to pick us up from Tekek. The quality of the service was excellent throughout. Sani our boat host welcomed us with a refreshing drink before we started our journey in the gorgeous speed boat round to the resort. He worked hard throughout our stay popping up in several different roles, always cheerful. At the resort we were again welcomed with more refreshment by Aruni the resort manager, walking down the jetty you knew immediately that you had come somewhere special. The chalets are tucked up on the hillside and have a minimal impact on the aesthetic of the beach and forest. Walking along the wooden walkways gave the impression of a real jungle/tree house experience. Everything is well designed. There are two pools which hardly ever had anyone in them and were both gorgeous in their own way, we liked the more natural looking pool which had a cascade running down a huge rock. From here we could watch monkeys and black giant squirrels feeding in the nearby fruit trees. There were sun loungers inside pavilions, some on the beach, but our favourites jutted out high above the beach and were over the water when the tide came in. The quality of the food was excellent in both restaurants but the Thai restaurant had a more romantic setting. All of the staff were great but Ayuoi made a real impression. She has a huge enthusiasm for wildlife and took time to show us some of the insect life and the best places to look for squirrels, bats, monitor lizards and so much more. We stayed in two of the chalets firstly a jungle one and then a cliff top one. Both were to a very high standard and offered a different experience. I preferred the jungle one, surrounded by vines and trees but my wife really loved the view from the cliff top chalet. It was possible to snorkel from the jetty with equipment borrowed from the hotel and we really enjoyed this. We also booked a trip to coral island. The whole thing felt very exclusive and it was nice to be on a snorkelling trip without lots of other people to worry about. The schedule was flexible and Sani took us to the best spots given the wind conditions. The coral was great as was the diversity of the fish species. Without doubt a highlight was observing squid communicating through colour changes to each other. We also booked a couples massage experience which we can highly recommend. It made our wedding anniversary very memorable and the treetop spa and aromatherapy bath was an incredible place to enjoy champagne whilst watching the sunset. In the evening time the resort serves complimentary cocktails on the end of the jetty whilst the sun goes down. This was very relaxing and gave us an opportunity to meet some of the other people staying at the resort. Watching the White bellied sea eagle every night was an added bonus!
"Amazing place, will be back!"
Unbelieveable place, amazing views, good food, great service. Just a leaky roof that kept me awake a little but it happens, the staff were super helpful and friendly. The snorkelling trip is a must! Amazing coral reefs.
we took advantage of monsoon season prices to book the unit with private pool -- worth every penny! Beautiful huge bedroom, bathroom, ocean view and privacy for this unit. We would have liked a screen door on the balcony so we could have ocean breeze at night rather than having to use AC in such a nice location where it is not necessary. We also wonder about the huge electrical wires marring the view of the restaurant and parts of our unit -- can they be moved to the back of the building? Otherwise, a wonderful place, a great way to unwind for a few days.
Just wonderful, special place for couples, walks, beach, snorkeling, meals, sunsets. Speedboat over was fun, ferry ride back was tiresome and slow in a well used older ferry boat that stayed tied to the dock well past departure time.
