"Third visit in a year!"

We enjoyed our third visit very much, we knew what to expect although there were a few differences this time. Occupancy was lower than our last two visits, and many guests were repeaters. We met some nice folks. Mostly retired, Brits and Canadians. Not many kids. Lots of business and airline staff stay overs. The staff are all fantastic as usual and very accommodating. We requested a room in the wing off the lobby which we got..didn't like the first room location so we asked if we could move and we got another room further down the hall the same day we arrived. I wound up with an eye infection that came on suddenly the evening we arrived. I knew I needed to see a doctor. We contacted the from desk and were advised that they could get someone to come out, and also told us up front what the cost would be. The Dr. was there within an hour ( on a Sunday Night!) He was very professional and quick. It was an expensive start to our vacay but speaks to the service of the hotel and a small friendly island...so Thanks Rex and Dr. Williams for saving me from an uncomfortable situation. The hotel is dated but is undergoing a lot of improvements since our last visit. The beach loungers have been refurbished and we never had problems getting them. The beach is beautiful, the water warm but murky so snorkeling is not good. There are some kayaks and a hobie cat. Dave took us for a short tour on the Hobie and we saw the resident turtles that live at the cliff end of the beach. There were a few guests that did some fishing and seemed to catch lots. Make sure to hike up the back hill to Clouds, the views are spectacular. It's a steep walk so wear decent shoes. You can visit the sister resort Hawksbill and your all inclusive is good there for meals..it is a gorgeous resort with a clothing optional beach if you are inclined. It's worth a day trip but you have to arrange your own transport. We've been twice. It's a much quieter resort. There is a taxi stand at the hotel, the rates are standard but you can make arrangements with most drivers. We met with Lewis, he was very fair and punctual. Taxis are somewhat pricey, but we felt were worth it, worry free. Meals are all buffet, dinners rotated between 3 locations. Food is fresh with local dishes and not mass produced like larger resorts. Choices can get repetitive, but I have no complaints about the quality. The egg station at breakfast is lovely. Wait staff are all excellent, if you want something, they will bend over backwards to do it. We were disappointed that the lobby bar was only open Sunday night. It's not a big lobby bar but we always enjoyed it on our last visits. Bar staff are super, they are generous with a pour..yes Austin and Dolston, I'm talking about you! I would suggest taking an insulated cup from home, the little plastic cups are a pain and not very environmentally friendly. Rooms: dated but kept clean, AC was good, maybe too good. If we weren't on the ground floor, we would have turned it off and opened the balcony door. We had the sweetest housekeepers, always cheerful and singing. Facecloths and kleenex are not provided so bring them from home if you want them. basic amenities..shampoo, conditioner soap are standard. Entertainment was fairly good, there was something every evening except Sunday. Activities are hit and miss. I did pool aerobics 3 times with good turnouts. This resort is good value for us and one of the reasons we have returned. Mainly we feel very comfortable here, it's safe and quiet. I can't say enough about the staff, everyone goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. We wouldn't hesitate to come back and probably will, we feel that "at home" here. Thanks for another wonderful stay!

"Had a fantastic time at Halcyon Cove"

Just got home today, from a week long stay at the resort (Jan 8-15, 2017). As others have said, the resort could use some updating, starting with the pathways, to the rooms, to the lobby and pretty much everything in between. However, the beds are comfy, the towels soft, everything is clean, the lounging chairs are in abundance and most of all...the food is excellent, and the drinks are not watered down, and are free flowing. The staff are exceptional, and they made our stay, they are the absolute best! The real stars for us, are the people we saw the most of, our bartenders. Heather is awesome, and we loved her dancing..love her! Errol is hilarious, and made nights at the lobby bar a lot of fun (Errol.."it's done" hahaha), Mr. D at the lobby bar, a class act! We rented a car from Dani, if you want one of the best prices on rentals, just message me. Her rentals were very clean and maintained, and the best prices we could find. She came recommended to us, and we can see why. She delivered the car to us and picked the car up. This was my first time driving on the wrong side of the road, and it only took me one day to stop using the windshield wipers as the turn signal..lol. I found driving there very easy, just stay on the left, watch for massive pot holes, and speed bumps (sleeping policemen) We drove all over the island and saw a lot. My recommendations, walk into St. John, it only takes about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours, depending on your pace. Get a taxi back if you want, it's $12. If you take the road between the beach and the estuary, then hang a right on Fort Road and go look at Fort James, it will not disappoint! There are 11 guns still there, and the old fort was incredible! Then continue on to town, and go do some shopping. We drove to Shirley Height, The Devils Bridge..both were worth the effort. English Bay was fun. Had lunch at Cloggy's which was fantastic, and we got to look at the super yachts 100 plus feet long, complete with its own helicopter. On another day, we drove to Darkwood Beach, and rented beach chairs and had lunch as well. gorgeous beach, and friendly people with good food. We drove through their rain forest, which is very lush. All in all, the trip was fantastic and we had a lot of fun. If you're looking for a all inclusive resort, that is good value for the money, is on the best beach in Antigua, then stay at Halcyon Cove. Its not 5 star, but then again, they don't say that they are. They are friendly, comfortable and you'll enjoy it..we sure did! I'd go there again tomorrow if I could.

"Very limited buffet but great service"

Decided to take my grandson to lunch on his birthday and try out the well-talked about inexpensive buffet. Guess you get what you pay for. The choices were limited but the service was not at all bad. Roxanne ensured that we were well accommodated and told us our options. The breezy and relaxing atmosphere while overlooking the Caribbean Sea made for a very enjoyable afternoon. The chef and other staff members were very pleasant.

"Perfect Vacay"

This place was perfect for myself and 12 other family members. Like other reviews will tell you, the grounds are not pristine or extravagant. It is a tiny hotel with a dedicated staff, beautiful views, soft linen, good food and a relaxed vibe that is second to none. tips - take the walk to the clouds for great view of the bay - kayak around the cliff to secluded beach. bring bread to feed fish on route - introduce yourself to Fenton on Day 1, he is WONDERFUL. so many other amazing staff to name Marla, Margarita, Dave, Dashaun (Nick Cannon lookalike), Raina, Egbert, Orlan, etc. etc. etc. - take the taxi or bus to st. johns. taxis operate from same company and all rates are the same. drivers will want to do round trip to secure your fare on the way back, but you dont get discount and you will have to leave at set time. i suggest to pay one way whenever you cab. taxis are everywhere and this way you can leave when you want - wadadli catamaran around the island is worth every penny. don't miss out on the breathtaking scenery. if you enjoy thrills, stay on outside when it goes through Atlantic side. You will have one of the best rides of your life if you sit at the very front of the boat and ride the 25ft swells! snorkel portion of this was bittersweet, abundance of tropical fish and depressingly dead coral:( fyi foodies- food on this excursion was not good. - check out shirley heights on sunday evening - eat Orlan's fish of the grill at lunch and always get the sauce - try the Antigua Kiss and Smile from the bar - if you like your bevies- don't be discouraged by 1045 last call, just fill a few tables with drinks. bartenders didn't care how many drinks you ordered at last call. - Mark, the dread at Sneaky Pete's (next to resort) can help you with things that the resort does not offer in the all-inclusive - jetski's, rasta-knowledge, etc etc ;) - there are 4 tennis courts, but you need to bring your own equipment. must pay for snorkel gear, but didn't find a good snorkel spot near the resort anyways. must go on tour, so no sense bringing own gear. resort volleyball and soccer ball are also shabby. - salt lake walk is a let down, can't swim in lake. Will def go back to Halcyon. This is the first time I have been hesitant to write a review. Don't want this place to get too much business and change....it is perfect the way it is. Affordable and exceptional!

"Dated but clean with great service! "

Still here and I must say I wasn't feeling the love when the taxi pulled into the resort, it's dated, however the room was spotless and serviced daily, the food offer was great and yes I've put on a stone in weight! The staff are so nice and friendly and a special mention to the guy that wonders around in a shirt and trousers (maybe the manager) always picking up rubbished and speaking with the guests.
