"Very average indeed"

We stayed at the Halcyon Cove for one night on our way through Antigua and came away with a feeling mainly of relief that we weren't staying there for any longer. The hotel is tired, very tired, with old décor, sliding doors that don't slide, old fashioned wicker furniture, and very dated features. Everything looks worn and tired and mostly doesn't work properly. There was no water the morning of our stay - understandable for a Caribbean island, but in this case was due to human error rather than nature! The doors between rooms - we had booked a two room formation so the children could sleep in the second bedroom - did not close, so that we lost entirely the benefit of booking two rooms. We did complain about that, and some other minor issues, to a very frustrating night manager whose response was "OK" to everything raised, and failed to do anything about it, or make any suggestions about how we may resolve the issues. Fortunately the day manager was more responsive and we await the conclusion of the compensation he kindly offered. The food is very local - salt fish and stews, johnny cakes and goat, so if you want a real Caribbean experience you certainly get that. From what we saw, there wasn't much additional international variety, which for one night is fine, but if staying longer I can see could be an issue. Breakfast was over-run by a football squad which made it crowded and noisy, but was perfectly good, with pastries and hot offerings. Dinner on the beach wasn't so popular, the food wasn't great and I would have hesitated to eat there again. The pool was fine, although small, and the beach bar was nice although drinks orders were met with a sigh so you always felt slightly as if you were bothering the staff for a drink, not the beaming service you might hope for. It's basic and functional (mostly) and fine, and for a night it was fine, but for longer we would have probably tried to move elsewhere! One final comment is that in the light of all of the above, and perhaps because of the fact that we booked two rooms, we found it to be extremely expensive for what it was, despite being all inclusive, and we found it to be terrible value for money.

"Low season-Great time"

Late sept-early October This is our second visit to Halycon Cove. Once again we were treated to 5 star service from a 3 star resort. We were advised prior to our trip that the resort was in low season and the weather would be hot. They got that right; the weather was Hot and Humid. There were about 60 people at the resort. From our point of view that was great. The food was brilliant as always. Although the selection was catered for the low season, there was always plenty of food available with a good variety of courses. Salads, local dishes, including vegetarian and a variety of fresh daily fish. All the staff were always accommodating and trying to please. To mention a few (the names that I can remember) Oris, Ken, Dalston, Heather, Roxanne, Shorty (Count Basie lookalike), Debbie, The new receptionist, Corlette (Guest liaison) and of course the Manager Riaan. They really made us feel at home and nothing was too much trouble in order to please. The Resort is in need of updating, the management are in the process of carrying this out. However, the rooms were clean and well equipped, coffee maker, air conditioning, good size beds, beach towels (fresh exchange at reception). The Beach is one of the best on the island, with fabulous views. There are lots of trips available from either the reception area or Michael who works the beach. Thanks to The Management and all the staff at Halcyon for a great Holiday.

"Back home"

This was our 2nd time at Halcyon cove,we stayed here last year and we fell in love with the place and fantastic staff.Last year we had originally booked into Hawkbill, but it was closed for refurbishment so we went to Halcyon cove instead. This year we thought that we would book into Hawksbill to see what it was like, with the idea of popping over to Halcyon on a couple of day visits. On our arrival to Hawksbill it was to find that the 37 acre site was on a hill and a lot of walking up and down hill which didn't suit my wifes bad knees,so we ask to transfer to Halcyon which happend very quickly. On our arrival we were greeted by Riann the manager who remembered us from last year with a rum punch and cold towel, this was the most warm welcome we have ever had.Made us feel special.the staff made us feel very welcome as well, several remembering us from last year .The room we were given was on the ground floor with all round access to pool, bar, beach, food bar and reception. The food from breakfast to dinner was fantastic, the only complaint we had was that one evening, everything on the menu was spicy except for the pasta. On our last night the a/c broke down, the girls in reception said we could change rooms but as it was only one night we declined,so they give us the big fan that they had in the lobby to cool us down.On our departure we were waiting for a cab when Fenton who is in charge of entertainment turned up in his own car to take us to the airport which for us was the icing on the cake.We hope to return next summer with the grand children.A big thank you to Riann, Debbie,Dolston, Ken, Maggie, Fenton and every one else working there, absolutely fantastic holiday.

We have just stayed here for two weeks when we booked we didn't realise it was out of season as it is the rainy season. We actually had 3 hours rain one day 10 mins another. We really enjoyed how quiet it was actually as you could have the pick of anywhere on the beach you wanted or if you just wanted to sit around the pool you could. To say there wasn't many quests staying you still got a good variety of choice for your meals. The chefs were very good the food was delicious. You got to eat on the pier on a Monday and a Wednesday which was very nice. You have maid service everyday. Clean beach towels everyday which was good. Free wifi but you could only get that really in reception which was a bit annoying as there were a lot of mosquitoes about so you did get bit quiet a bit which was a shame. The staff are very friendly, Dolston behind the beach bar was lovely nothing was ever too much trouble. Denise and Lerverne were lovely in the restaurant. On the second week there was a lot of seamoss that had been washed up on the beach which was getting reeked up in a morning and cleared then it just got left so by later in the week it began to be really smelly and a lots of sandfly and bugs were flying around which spoilt the beautiful beach that we had started of at the beginning of the holiday. But I would certainly go back again. The rooms do need upgrading a little but still nice and clean which is all you need really.

"Best Holiday"

Riann & his team from the front desk to groundskeepers & security treated us like we were special. They made us so welcome. The meals were great, our room was great & the people were amazing. I certainly have plans to return. This resort should be extremely proud of themselves for the fantastic job they do-congratulations-Connie Stuckless
