"Resort to soothe your soul"
I don't even know where to begin. This was undoubtedly the best place we visited in Panama. On Monday morning, after having spent a night in David, one of four nights, we were to spend there, we packed our luggage into our rental car and started looking for either another place to stay, on the coast, or else we were going to catch the next flight home. We had heard about Boca Chica being a place for fishing, which my husband was interested in, so we headed to Boca Chica. I looked online for accommodations, in Boca Chica, of which were there a few, but not many. We stopped at Bocas Del Mar, which is about an hour from David; and, we went from wanting to leave the country, to wanting to live there. We walked into the office, and ask if they had any rooms, the resort manager Marcus, showed us several different Bungalows, and we picked one that had a gorgeous view of the water, and the grounds which were immaculately landscaped. Oh, I should make that more clear, there are no bad views from any of the bungalows. We decided to stay for the remainder of our trip in Panama, so we spent eight days and seven nights there and never went back to our hotel in David, even though we had already paid for four nights. This resort was exactly what we were looking for, after the hustle and bustle of Panama City for a week, doing all the tourist things, checking out Bouquete, etc., it was so nice to be able to relax in a spot small enough to where everyone knew your name by the end of the first day, and it was like you're staying with your relatives, the relatives you really, really like!!! We were so lucky, that they even had available space. The week before they were completely booked. I think they were a little surprised that we showed up, no reservation, and ended up spending a week. The Bungalows are top notch, very spacious, clean, with great patios to sit on. They have all different types of rooms, to accommodate either families, couples, some of the Bungalows can be rented together, to create a larger space. There are two infinity pools. A larger one down by the reception and restaurant, and another on and upper level and more secluded, which was my favorite spot. It was easy to take day trips from the resort in your own car. Or the hotel had great excursions. We were there, I thought, unfortunately, in the rainy season, but mostly had rain at night, although there were some days that it rained during the day. The sweltering heat of Panama City, turned into a balmy breeze on the coast, which was perfect. I could talk about this resort for pages and pages. The restaurant was absolutely wonderful, we had fresh fish every single day, Alex and Alex2, were absolutely wonderful hosts and served us as if we were someone very special, every time we ate there, which was our entire trip. We had fresh fruit every morning with omelettes and fresh bread and jams. Peter runs a wonderful eating experience there. Miha was our "tour" coordinator and it was wonderful to meet him. Ralph took a four wheeler excursion with him, they rode on the beach, looked for Cayman, which they did not see, found some monkeys and just had a great time. Marcus' wife, Elena, runs the resort with him and they are the most pleasant people you will ever meet. I hope the owners of the resort, a couple from Belgium, know what gems they have to run their Gem of a resort. I always say there are so many places in the world to visit, so after visiting someplace, I never really want to go back again, because someplace else, I haven't been, always calls my name -- but I would go back to this resort every single year, and just might. If you are looking for someplace to party, that is loud, that has lots and lots of busy, busy activity, from what I experienced, this is not the place you want to go. And for those of us that are looking for what this resort offered when we were there, we don't want you there anyway. 😉 They have a spa there; they do fishing excursions, island hopping, ATV rides, kayaking and canoeing, just to name a few. So whatever you're looking for, you will find it there. Whether it's peace and quiet, or excursions all day long and always ends with a great dinner in the restaurant, with great people. Perhaps in the non-rainy season, there's more activity, but the resort itself is small enough, that it will only hold so many people so if you are looking for a family friendly, relaxing vacation spot... perhaps I'll see you there next year! I will shoot for the non-rainy season next time I go, because I'm a sun worshiping fool. Great to have met each of you -- Marcus, Elena, Peter, Miha, Alex and Alex2. We loved our time spent with you at beautiful Bocas Del Mar.
"One of best small hotels in Central America, gorgeous setting, super service"
This was our first visit to Boca Chica and we weren't sure what to expect as this is a remote location even though David is only about a hour away. We had come from Playa Venao, driving our way across the Pacific Coast. Drive from Venao was about 5 hours, but we took it slow, and the highway from Santiago to the Boca Chica turn-off was under construction. So....when we turned into the Bocas property, crested the hill, and looked down over the immaculate hotel grounds and out at the emerald green islands dotting the blue Pacific, well, we were happy. On site managers are great; very nice king rooms with A/C, terraces, lots of closet space and sparkling marble bathrooms with tubs and separate rain shower. And the windows in the rooms have a special coating that allows you to see out, but people can't see in. My wife was skeptical of that, but she checked it out at night with the lights on, and that coating works. Amazing. Dining room and bar is open air, casual with an elegant flair, overlooking manicured gardens, the bay, and a deep blue swimming pool. Wait and bar staff were the best, so much fun, and they were always playing Salsa and Bachata music, our favorite. Delicious food at breakfast, lunch, and dinner (there are a few other dining options, but no reason to leave here). We recommend getting the rate that includes breakfast, its a good deal. Fresh fish, ceviche all the time, lobster when available, traditional rice and shrimp dishes, pastas, and these guys make excellent cocktails, and the bar has a good selection of rums. The hotel also has its own tour guides and boats for island hopping, plus sea kayaks and windsurfers. Fishing can also be arranged. And if you're looking for value pricing, go in the off-season. We were there in May and room prices were very inexpensive and weather was beautiful, though its the beginning of the rainy season.
"Postcard Setting - Fabulous Service"
We booked two rooms at Bocas Del Mar for two nights in May. It was our first time to Boca Chica and Bocas Del Mar was our first breathtaking view of the beautiful islands. This is an untouched area of the world that few people know about. The hotel itself exceeded our expectations in every way. The breakfast which included a large plate of fresh fruit was excellent and the dinners were excellent. The staff was upbeat, friendly and always willing to help - we asked lots of questions:). The rooms were large, clean, attractive, well equipped, and the air conditioning worked well. The hotel grounds are well kept with a small private beach below and lots of little areas to sit, rest, relax, and reflect. I have been trying to come up with suggestions for improvement while I have been writing, but can't really think of anything. This place exceeded our expectations and I would strongly recommend it.
"3rd Visit AWESOME!!!!"
We have experienced Bocas Del Mar 3 times in the past 18 months. Each visit has been very special in different ways. The Management and staff have a passion for service and hospitality that in my opinion are unmatched in Panama and really in any part of the world. If you truly want to get away and decompress I don't know anyplace that could exceed those needs. Peter, Elena and Marcus are great and Mika who runs the island excursions is the most informative guide I've ever had the pleasure of being in his company. This resort is probably not the best place for young families from the US to travel too as you need to entertain your own children without the water park and Disney Characters that they may expect which makes its all the more special that dont want that either. Thank You to the Management and staff of Bocas Del Mar for making our stays so special again and again and again. Mucho Gracias!!
"Beautiful and relaxing"
This is one of the best hotel I've stay in Panama, great properties with beautiful views and surrounded by nature. Perfect for couples retreats. The staff is friendly and always ready to help you with anything you need.
