"Would have given it 4.5 if able to"
There are so many positives about this hotel that I feel churlish mentioning the negatives. That said, this is how hotels improve so I will start with them. 1. It states it is an 'all suite' hotel, which it is not - they may have sizable rooms but these are not suites. They 'do' have suites - we managed to stay in an executive, adults only suite which was excellent, giving access to a reserved area of the beach where you get your own sunbeds (no need to rush to one with your towels in the morning) and this also gives you access to a further restaurant, Lime which is very good indeed, serving sushi. 2.Lunchtimes could be catered for better than is currently offered. The main buffet restaurant unusually isn't open for lunch so most people tend to eat at the beach restaurant which, in our opinion was the most disappointing aspect of the hotel. The tables here had lots of ants on them and a huge number of flies, making it virtually impossible to eat there. We did one day and that was enough. Nothing wrong with the food as the burgers there were good but all enjoyment is taken away when the tables aren't cleared quickly enough to keep the ants/flies to a minimum. Now for the positives which by far outweigh the negatives. Aside from the lunch area, the hotel is exceptionally clean. There are plenty of sunbeds both around the pool and on the beach - it would be good if staff came round more regularly offering drinks around the pool though. The bar sits in the centre of the property and as such is a great place to hang out at any time of day and especially so after dinner. The restaurants are good and we especially loved The Bistrot which is great for lunch as well as dinner. The staff are the hotel's crowning glory in my opinion. They go above and beyond to make your stay more enjoyable. I am going to mention some who were incredible but those not mentioned shouldn't be offended as they are all great. Kershan is an amazing person. He anticipates what you want before you think of it and I cannot praise him enough. Ragu, who worked in Lime restaurant was also a fantastic person who was both gentle and attentive, making all our visits there, something to savour. His colleague there whose name I have forgotten was equally wonderful.. Yasinn who looks after you on the main beach is a really friendly and characterful man who it was a pleasure to see each day. Roma on the front desk (who we were sad not to say goodbye to) is a huge asset to the hotel and one of the the friendliest of people. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that she was running the hotel at some stage in the future. We have also stayed at The Zilwa Attitude which was great but on balance, we felt that we liked The Ravenala more overall. The defining feeling that a hotel should leave you with is that you would want to stay there again and we definitely would.
"An absolute DREAM!"
From start to finish this holiday was superb! My partner and I visited for 10 days in June 2016. We had a riverside room which we actually preferred as it was very quiet and nice to have different scenery! The room was spacious and cleaned immaculately each day! The different choice of food/restaurants was great as well as the BBQ and wide range of food at lunchtime! We ate in buffet, The beach restaurant, Italian, Mauritian and Asian fusion restaurants at night. There was even the option to have afternoon tea! The beach/ pool area was never too busy and the free watersports were a lot of fun (kayaks, sailing, waterskiing, paddleboarding!) It was also lovely to take a kayak down the river to see the waterfall and turtles! We opted to spend our time on the beach (pool was very cold and did not have much of an atmosphere!), the beach rum shack was great, staff were always available to take a drink or food order. It was also nice to watch the sun set each night before going to get ready for dinner. Even when the evening music would stop at around 11am it was great to be able keep drinking in the "nightclub" if we wished (beer or wine inclusive). Or to take our drinks onto the beach for a quiet drink. I have never experienced all-inclusive drinks throughout the night, so this was a very big stand out for us! We managed to hire car to visit the Casela Nature Park. We also booked a private taxi tour who took us around almost the WHOLE island and we saw everything we wish to see which was absolutely superb! The only feedback we would like to give is that it would be great to have slightly more upbeat entertainment 2 x a week to get people up and having fun! There were also a few VERY lovely staff members who unnecessarily felt awkward when we would order another drink too frequently at night time because the bar manager did not like it. We were drinking at a normal speed, we are young and these staff members were what made our experience!
Relaxing and beautyful! You can find nice hidingplaces everywere and its easy to find shadow. The river flotes calmly and you can just sit watching or paddling. Canoes are for free. Waterskiing and a lot of things are for free. Check with the boathouse. The buffetrestaurant Mozaik is well organized and if you ever need anything contact VIKASH! He made our week easy and special for us, especially for our doughter that has celiaki (glutenintolerans). If hotels could clone him and his kind of leadership they would have lots of happy restaurantguests. Davine is also wery serviceminded. I hope the management take care of and keep them. Some days they seems to be there both mornings and nights. It must be terrible in this hot weather. Unfortunately our experiences in the other resturants during our evenings was a carastrophe!! It different more than 30 minutes between us when getting the food and we had to wait one hour for our maincourse in restaurant O. We had to skip the dessert because the children went tired. Drinks needs big improvements. The worst we ever had. If you like snorkling its perfect if you just pass the river and go to the neighbour hotel beach. ( all beaches in M is public) and we talk to the hotelguard, as long as you stay at their beach its ok)Then you just swim out to the right towards the cliffs and follow them or go right out. Between 8- 10 there are no boats in action and almost always sunny but it works fine anytime. Its perfect for children! We could se more fishes in this area than during our snorkelingtrip. For swimming its perfekt at Ravenala. Superb room as well!!! Rekommend you strongly to go with a chauffor from Summertimes for one day and se the Island. That was soo god. His name was Vikash and he was superb!!!We will surely come back!
"Excellent but need more variety for vegetarian food"
The hotel is pretty huge and fabulous along with room and other facilities like water activities, pool parties. Room were pretty nice. Try to take rooms near to reception as there are more than 200 rooms here and they are very far from activity and dining area. Also had bad experience with management for as they have very slow service and Indians were not given much attention during stay and especially during meals. The hotel needs to be more particular about Indian cuisine as most of the Indians visit Mauritius and more options in Indian veg and non-vegetarian food would be highly appreciated.
"Piece of paradise"
I had a wonderful stay at Ravenala, in my luxurious suite right by the sea, with all imaginable additional facilities. I really enjoyed watching (right from my patio) local fishermen throwing out their fishing nets at sunset and the happy islanders swimming by the pier. There are all kinds of colourful, exotic birds and plants all over the hotel area and I took many nice evening walks along a nearby riverside. Staff and service were both excellent, so was the food. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this hotel, no negative encounters, not the slightest inconvenience in any matter. This is where I found my own piece of paradise and this is the hotel I strongly recommend to anybody, who wants to share the feeling! I <3 Mauritius, I <3 Ravenala.
