"ridiculous water policy"
the location of the hotel is excellent the beach is excellent although you cannot swim directly from the beach because of the shallow water and seaweed and rocks wifi only works at reception and around the immediate areas you are NOT officially allowed to bring water into the hotel ~ security and reception are embarrassed and tell you to put it in a bag and smuggle it into the hotel ~ how many other hotels in the world have such a crazy and petty rule ? the most important duty for the staff appears to be the rigid and annoying routine every morning of two of them inspecting the mini bar and locking it if you abuse the policy of somehow "trying to improve the level of service we offer our customers" by not using it for your own refreshments they then record what has been used ~ there must have been 95% zero returns on their daily lists because clients are frustrated and refuse to use the mini bar it really is a shame that the management's priorities are so far off the mark that we will not remember this hotel for the views and location and service but for the" water police" to top it all off as we left we were chased down the drive by a receptionists asking for payment for a bottle of water from the mini bar which we had never used ~ and after getting on the ferry and sitting next to a german traveller he also had been accused of the same crime ~ totally unnecessary bearing in mind the thousands of rupees we had spent booking the hotel !
The staff was very rude and were lacking serious skills. Our room got overbooked even though we got the confirmation mail beforehand. That’s the whole purpose of a reservation… All in all, bad service, lack of hygiene, shi**y people and great weather.
"Paradise at its Best"
We stayed at the Lodge for 10 days in October. The weather was not hot, the hotel was excellent set in 'A' frame air-conditioned chalets in a tropical garden with some overlooking the sea.The La Digue experience was simply magnificent the beaches all close by being out of this world. The not so often talked about things - the wifi at the hotel was very erratic and often not working - the food for dinner was very good but too repetitive in choice. The coral has all been destroyed by global warming - a very sad sight but the fish abound in their splendour unperturbed by our presence as divers or snorkelers.
"WARNING "Beach Chalet" in the third Row +++ POOR, INCOMPLETE and ARROGANT SERVICE"
Here are our experiences/episodes at La Digue Island Lodge: First night: -Beach Chalet in the third Row !!! -Beach View: looking at the backside of an big white Building (see attached Picture) -5 Minutes walkway from Pool/Restaurant (to park the bicycle here: "IS NOT ALLOWED") After long discussions with Front Desk, next day we could change to another Beach Chalet ! -waiting unacceptable 2-3 hours to clear the problem -Management not available -unfriendly Front Desk staff -Staff ask for additional payment !!! -outrageous excuses: -you didn’t book the right category (but there is only one category for beach chalet), -you book to late(we book 3month before); -repeater preferred, -guests book explicit Beach Chalet number(other guests reported … it's not possible to book explicit chalet), ….. Next three nights: -Beach Chalet directly at the beach !!! -Old style Bathroom with mouldy cramped mini-shower -after one day the toilet flush runs 24hours, toilet not usable, Only one unsuccessful repair attempt -Sun-lounger cushion old and dirty -walkway close to the Terrace Renovation: -the often mentioned "bathroom-renovation" seemingly takes years !!! -only some of the Chalets are renovated, only Bathroom … room remain old-style Service: -Restaurant Staff and housekeeping very friendly -unacceptable beach towels procedure (sign out and sign in with every change !!!) -Adults Only is not true !!! -Dinner Restaurant: Buffet only, 50-60 US$ p.P. -Fridge and Minibar mentioned at "room-amenities" … but not usable for own beverages !!! Location: -nice and clean Area -nearly half of the Beach Chalets have a limited view because they are not in first row ! -beach: swimming difficult because water maximal knee- to hip- deep and after 10 to 15 meter are rocky seaweed fields! -beach and water: clean We never get direct feedback from Management on-site or thereafter .... only by office staff. Their answers reflects clearly the certain arrogance which fits exactly our experience at the hotel ! They even don't know the hotel facilities and they deliberately ignore the comments and complaints from customers ! No apologies …no regrets …. no promises to improve circumstances ….only flimsy excuses ! Here an text abstract: """......the points which you have indicated to us, we do not consider to be genuine. As we have not had any of the complaints from other guest bearing in mind that we are working on full occupancy.""" We stay at a comparable Hotel at Praslin for half of the price …. but 5 times better ! La Digue Island Lodge is definitely not worth the money.
"Our hotel at La Digue"
We stayed here for little less than a week. The A line hotel rooms (little houses scattered around the premises) are spacious and clean, a downside is that the mattresses are quite hard, the bathroom is big and even has a bath. The hotel grounds are beautifully landscaped, there are lounge beds at the beach and at the pool (not enough though). The restaurant is okay. At breakfast there is a good choice of eggs any style, bread, juices and pancakes baked by Sundeep, coffee is instant nescafé (I don't enjoy that very much as I'm used to European style coffee). Dinner is in buffet style, every evening kind of the same things, but we enjoyed Indian night (most of the kitchen staff is from India, so that's real Indian food there). Staff is friendly and helpfull. The hotel has a buss that takes to and from the jetty (picks you up upon arrivel and drops you off when you are leaving, they don't tell you that on the hotel website). You can rent bikes anywhere in La Passe, I don't think the bike rental next to the hotel is the best (bad brakes, old bikes, no oil on the chains and gears, my chain fell off once), try one near to the jetty (it's about 100 rupee a day)
