- 3 Restaurants
"Very good, but probably not for all!"
This is a difficult one.. we stayed in the Union Estate Lodge, within the Estate Park that gives you free access to Anse d'Argent and the real La Digue experience at night etc.. Which is beautiful and unique.. however there are some points to consider for a) honeymooners - perhaps they wish to have that more luxury that the Domaine de l'Orangerie would give you and b) families / elderly people - who my struggle a bit with the distance from the lobby and the fairly outdated furniture in the rooms.. All in all it was fine with us but perhaps not going to be back.. Others picking up to my memory: safe a bit small; didn't use the kitchen however looked fairly outdated; plenty of mosquitos so arrange for it; nice pool; breakfast not that great; a bit slow service in fixing a problem with hot water (but then this was addressed by the GM the day after); .. Also, for everyone staying in the island, bring a torch as you will have to ride a bike and after sunset the island gets all dark..
"Worst hotel ever"
We do NOT recommend this hotel at all. The terrible place they made us stay, was Gregoire s apartments, which is completely below all measures. Zero stars for sure! Noisy, smelly, dirty place. Very nasty roadside location, way outside the hotel area, which is not mentioned in any form of advertising. Completely unacceptable behaviour from the staff. We stayed 3 nights, that was 3 nights too many.
"Stay away! Major turist trap!"
Complaint about La Digue Island Lodge resort. Our impression of this hotel is not good at all, so here is a warning to other potential guests: beware, this place is a major rip off! We booked for a week, but left after three sleepless nights, as nothing really had met our expectations. The single aim of this establishment is to press as much money out of their guests as possible, giving nothing in return. They call it annex building - also known as Gregorie's apartment - just to add to the confusion. What it really means, is a shabby guest house, way outside of the hotel's premisses, right by the side of the island's busiest road, above a noisy supermarket and pizzeria. There is no rest, no quiet moment here, just traffic noise from lorrys, various construction wehicles, deliveries, people shouting and playing music while riding bikes all the time, also at unthinkable nighthours. The misinformation about this place is devastating, both from the hotel and from travelagent Expedia, who uses Island Lodge as a bait with a pretty bungalow picture for the average price of a 3 star hotel. When you get here, you get hugely disappointed - then they would happily upgrade you for even more money. It s too late to realize the trap then. We paid 120€ for a room per night, they claimed at our arrival that we only had paid 90€, not hasitating to inform you what a pitty they think this is. No use showing your receipt, they still try to sell you breakfast for 48€ per person. So here is what you get for your money: The advertised facilities are non existent here, as the shabby guesthouse is far away from the lobby and from the one tiny swimming pool they have, which "you are wecome to use" - they say. There is no beach by this hotel either, the closest ones are all in biking distance. About the "classic room" at Gregoire's apartment: Entrance via the backside of the pizzeria, just beyond the dishwasher-room and cleaning trolley / dirty mop parking plot. Stuck in the eighties concerning all technical appliances, toiletteries and decoration. The kettle is a potential fire hazard, leaking badly, it' s melting plastic handle is untouchable. The fridge is so noisy, it has to be shut down overnight. No tv signal. No complementary water in the room. We found a long-dead gekko in a corner, where the cleaning obviously never reaches. Mouldy bathroom. Smells and looks awful. We talked to some other guests at Gregoire's apartments, they were all upset and made similar complaints like us. Some even got their money back, when they'd got loud and persistent enough. If after all this you fancy a trip all the way to the lobby: their very weak wifi works there sometimes, but only at the receprion. There is a bar there too, with a lot of echo: we never saw any customers by the counter. Could be because of the ridiculosly high prices they prolong. Still, if the personell was nice and helpful, there could be a chance for some kind of holiday enjoyment. Sadly, they have an awful attitude, which is well known for the other nice and friendly people who live and work on this magnificent island. Gerard, the Island Lodge receptionist we talked oftest to, became directly rude, when he got confronted with our real and honest complaints. He even lied shamelessly in our face, as electricity was gone for almost eight hours and we were told that it was down on the whole island. Then we took a bikeride around and there was elecricity everywhere else, except the resort. Without reliable electricity, telephone- and wifi signal, it is extremely hard to communicate all this trouble with Expedia - also a truly unfair and exausting way of spending our holiday - not to mention the skyhigh telephone bills that awaits us, as we were put on hold in between many of Expedia's telephoneoperators on two different continents! It has not been possible to communicate directly with the management of this establishment either, so our message to the owner Mr. Gregoire Payet would be, not to develope any more hotel- or any kind of service properties, as this arrogant way of doing businnes ruins the reputation of the very fine La Digue island. What a shame, you simply scare people away! Leaving Island Lodge resort is a real true pleasure! To Expedia: It is a disgrace that you send innocent holiday makers to this vicious resort. We insist on getting our money back for the four days we did not spend on La Digue. The vouchers you promised us -which never arrived in time - would not even be sufficient to cover the telephone bill.
"Good but can be better 🌊"
Cooperative staff ..Sandeep (Indian chef) helped us with the food throughout..nice villas especially the ones with the beach view. Overall a good property to stay in however we had few issues with the check in ..we were initially shifted to an apartment room (which is nearby and has no good view and the room was too small to stay as well) at the time of check in due to some renovation work and we didn't had any prior information regarding this renovation. So we couldn't enjoy the property on the first stay although the booking was done in advance and we were not compensated for this , though the hotel offered us with free dinner as a compensatory benefit .we stayed for two days but one day of our stay was spoiled because of the mismanagement and delay in the check in formalities but after a lot of pressure and request they shifted us finally to the room category with the beach view that we had booked earlier for the other day and we enjoyed our stay then.
"Nice with some difficulties"
Booked an a-frame cabin for a few days to enjoy La Digue. We had the dinner package, where the dinner was included in the price, excluding drinks. The room was clean and the staff friendly. A special shoutout has to be given out to the staff at the restaurant, where both the servers and the chefs were friendly, talkative and attentive. The cabin had mice in the roof, scuttling around during the nights. We were promised traps and offered a lower standard room, which we did not accept. When signing out we were told to wait for the manager to address the mice issue, where I proposed to waive the drinks bill (about 80€ from a few dinners, not a lot for us or the hotel but ot would've shown some mediation in the issue), but instead another gentleman from the staff told us that nothing would be done, there are mice, deal with it. Would recommend the restaurant, the accommodation with some reservation.
