Over Le Domaine de l'Orangeraie

Our favorite

"Best hotel in La Digue and probably all of Seychelles"

   19-03-2017
We went to The Seychelles 11 nights in March 2017 and stayed 5 days at Praslin, 3 days at La Digue and 3 days at Mahé. We stayed some very nice places (incl. Constance Ephelia at Mahé) but the 3 days at Domaine de l'Orangeraie at La Digue were without a doubt the best! The hotel is of excellent standard (we were told by our travel agency it was 4* but definitely define it as a 5* ourselves). The rooms are spacious and very original, the staff extremely service-oriented, the restaurants very good (tried them both), the bar is nice, the bicycle rental service works impeccably and the infinity pool and lounge area are fantastic. Let me assure you; you will not be disappointed by this hotel! Value-for-money is extremely high!

"Don't book here!!"

   18-03-2017
I can list so many reasons: Unprofessional, no concierge, bad food at the overpriced buffet, rude staff (not all but a few), worst beach on the island, restaurants only open until 930... I can go on and on. They also got our reservation wrong and then sold our room and although they upgraded us for the duration of our stay, they tried to downgrade us for our last night. This meant we had to pack and move. We left the hotel and they made a mistake on our bill when we checked out. They somehow called all the hotels on the next island and he our hotel call us to pay them. Don't go here. Stay on Praslin and do a day trip by ferry or private boat trip. The island is nice but not worth it.

"Mixed Feelings! "

   17-03-2017
We booked a garden villa for a two day stay, on arrival at the jetty staff were ready and waiting in the gruelling midday heat (kudos to them). We were transferred to the hotel which is only a short ride away. We were welcomed with much needed cold flannels and a lovely welcome drink. You are then taken on a tour of the whole hotel which was extremely thorough. On booking the hotel I had requested a quiet room and we were allocated room 306 (villa zanblon). The room was nicely prepared and had an amazing relaxing vibe. The outdoor shower was felt like you were in the middle of the rainforest and you felt at one with nature. The beanbags on our terrace were extremely relaxing and this was a haven as it was silent (this is true of the island in general). The room had most amenities just was missing an iron and ironing board. Most of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, I'm gutted I can't remember the name of the kind lady who took great care of us. We don't ride bikes so she arranged a taxi for us that took us to the main beaches and belle vue. She told us to take a lovely walk around the north of the island and this was breathtaking (although the heat was unbearable). Sunset from the pool bar is spectacular shame the prices of the drinks are so expensive. Service there seemed forced. After having such a wonderful welcome we were much looking forward to breakfast... This was a complete let down (I'm judging this on the calibre of the hotel). First of all you have to pay extra for an espresso cappuccino etc. The pastries tasted cheap and greasy. Some of the buffet items seemed like they were from the buffet dinner the night before. The only saving grace was the friendly lady who made you perfectly cooked eggs.... Seriously you're paying alot of money to stay here and the waiting staff and the food at breakfast is a major downfall! We also found one lady at reception to be extremely abrupt and rude when we asked for simple directions to a restaurant... Rolling her eyes and sighing definitely not acceptable. She was the only one at reception that made you feel that she didn't want to be there or had any customer skills. Having said that the first night the reception staff were great. The men in charge of the buggies are the friendliest as they take the time to talk to you. The beach next to the hotel is nothing spectacular but fine to relax on after a day of visiting the island. I think it's a joke that the hotel charge a transfer fee to the jetty as it's round the corner and should be included in their already inflated price tag. Having said all that we loved the peace and tranquility our room bought us and most staff were great. However I think what the hotel charges for the rooms is ridiculous!

"Beautiful property!"

   17-03-2017
Due to the hotel's high rates, I had high expectations to match. But the property did not disappoint! We got picked up in a cart from the helipad and were shown around the island and made to feel very welcome! The check-in was lovely (until the tour - see below) with the yummy welcome drink, the gongo being hit as a welcome and I loved the flower wrapped around the passport touch! The pool is everything you see in photos and more. It's so stunning with breathtaking views everywhere you look. The swim up bar was great and we had a few beers there but didn't bother to eat at the hotel as the prices are pretty unbelievable. Also, it would of been nice to be offered water at the pool. The room was incredible! We had a garden view suite and it was HUGE. Huge (extremely comfortable) bed, huge balcony, huge bathroom, huge outdoor shower (just amazing!!) The room was sooo beautiful!! Amazing greenery views from the balcony, quality linen and furnishings, gorgeous ceiling lights...just heaven!!! It would of been nice to have more water provided in the room too (the minibar is empty) And make sure you pack a conditioner as they don't provide it but the toiletries provided were lovely! Breakfast was amazing. Mostly due to the location of the restaurant. Oh my god, that early morning view was fantastic! The food was ok, nothing to rave about really but has everything you would expect from a buffet, including champagne for mimosas!! The man working at the egg station was so unpleasant I actually walked away without ordering after standing there for a while without him acknowledging me. My husband went back and ordered for us later on. Not sure if he was having an extremely bad start to his day or if he is always like that. Now some negatives that actually mattered to me: 1. The welcome tour was a very frustrating experience. After checking in, the lady said she was going to give us a tour before taking us to the room. I asked if there were going to be stairs due to my father's mobility issues. She was so intent on doing that part of her job that she didn't really listen and take my concern seriously. As we started going up and down stairs and receiving useless information ("this restaurant is closed on Wednesdays" - we were only there one night on a Saturday), my husband asked if we could just go to the room since it had been a long journey from Australia. We just wanted to have a shower and enjoy the pool. Instead of saying something like "yes, of course", she pushed back saying she still had one restaurant and the pool to show. My husband had to be very firm back and repeat that we just wanted to go to the room. We started walking to the room but not before she stopped and showed an information room where we could watch TV should we wish to (???). In the room, she continued to not 'read the situation' and pointed out obvious things such as the minibar. Now, I understand some guests would appreciate this tour. But it should be more of a question of "would you like a tour" and "do you have any questions". Instead, it was a scripted, robotic experience which lacked warmth and rapport with the guests. Important info such as wifi, breakfast information and check out time were not even mentioned. I really disliked this tour and suggest it should be more personalised to individual guests. 2. Again, due to high rates charged, I expect exclusivity. There seemed to be non guests spending their day by the pool and taking up valuable sun beds. This is a big problem when you can't get a sun bed as a guest paying for the hotel facilities. 3. We emailed to say we were going there to celebrate my 30th but this didn't get acknowledged in the response or at hotel. Overall, a really nice hotel. Yes, it's super expensive but there just aren't any options like this on La digue. It's the only choice if you like nice hotels. We really enjoyed our time there!

"Best luxury hotel on La Digue"

   14-03-2017
Wonderful luxury hotel that offers all you possibly would expect from such a standard. The location, the friendliness and hospitality of the staff, the service, the accommodation, the cleanliness and that little 'extra'. What I loved most was the accommodation! The interior and the details of your villa wow you right at the entrance: with that amazing canopy bed, outdoor bathroom and cozy terrace you feel like you have your own love nest high up in the tree tops. Friendliness and politeness of the staff, willing to do a lot for your comfort and satisfaction, stands apart. Restaurant manager looked through the fingers even when we came late, after breakfast was officially finished and found us a table. Wendy, the customer relations employee, thank you for your warm heart and willingness to help me out with the jewellery (even though I have to come back after the black pearls instead of white ;-)). Cindy, the boutique responsible, thank you for your beautiful soul, for your personal approach and for all the time and attention! I will have to come back and continue our conversation :-) Although, the hotel is near the beach, it is recommended to take one which is 5 minutes away by bikes. This is another fantastic feature of the hotel, that you can rent a bike for the whole day and see most of the island, which we did, of course. If you bike to the north, i would recommend to stop over at the beach bar "Chez Jules", they serve amazing fresh juices and coconut water- and of course alcohol, if you wish that :-) But most people bike to the south, where the major attraction of the island is hidden. The beach- Anse Source D'Argent. Do not forget to visit the spa of the hotel- no matter what treatment you will get, you have to see that view!! You will be stunned. It's the most beautiful view from the spa I've ever seen! The hotel villas are spread around rather steep hills, but you can easily move around by buggies. Generally, the hotel is very uniquely placed and has a lot to offer to its guests. For sure, worth visiting and staying. Both at the hotel and the island.
