Over Cerf Island Resort

Het eiland is heuvelachtig en daardoor hebben de villa's allemaal een andere locatie. Sommige hebben prachtig zeezicht, maar de meeste liggen verscholen tussen het groen. Bij het centrale deel van het resort heeft u twee zwembaden en een restaurant met bar waar u heerlijk kunt dineren. Een romantisch diner voor twee kan voor u worden geregeld op het strand of op het heli-dek. Iets meer actie kan ook, variërend van een lekkere lange strandwandeling tot kayakken op de heldere lagune. De onderwaterwereld is wellicht nog mooier dan boven water, met vissen in alle kleurschakeringen. Het is 15 minuten varen vanaf Mahé.

"Amazing!!"

We stayed at Cerf Island Resort from 24 Dec 2016 to 07 Jan 2017. The resort is very easy to get to. A 10 minute car ride from the airport to the boat dock and then a 15 minute boat ride to the resort. We had an amazing two week vacation! Five star resort all around! The resort is beautiful, quiet, peaceful and relaxing (day and night)! The staff is very friendly and welcoming from the garden crew to the managers - always greeting us with a smile and asked how our day was. The resort had lovely festivities for Christmas and New Years! Made our vacation even more special. We became close to others guests as well, which made it feel very homey. The villa was perfect! Wonderful size, clean, in room teas, coffee, and water. Relaxing outdoor shower and huge tub, and covered balcony. We became close friends with many staff members... Prakash, the front desk manager was wonderful. Was at the boat dock to welcome us and showed us around the resort. Always there to answer our questions, book our day excursions and massages, and everyday asked how our day and trips went. Sam, the food and beverage manager is terrific! Always greeting us with a smile and what we would like! So sincere. Plus, makes delicious cocktails! Lemongrass martini or ice tea is a must! Also, a fantastic drink and wine menu from all over! Fatima, a wonderful waitress and server! The head gardener, was always around with a smile and greeting. The food is delicious and very fresh! Wonderful variety and selections. We also had live entertainment a few evenings over supper which was lovely! The resort is in a perfect location! The resort and island is very quiet and peaceful but you are not fair from other Islands to do things. The resort has free boat shuttles to the main island, Mahe each day to go shopping, sightseeing, scuba diving or meet with other tours for day excursions. We relaxed several days at the resort but also ventured out to see the many other islands, scuba diving, kayaked to the sandbar, snorkeled, hiked... Thank you for a fantastic vacation! All the staff came to thank us and wish us safe travels back home. It was sad to leave but we will be back!

"Not worth the money.."

I stayed at Cerf Island Resort for one night - I expected a night in a luxury lodge, yet I got disappointed. The facilities are located facing Mahe Island. So the view over the ocean is not really nice - looking at an industrial harbour. The rooms are located very far from the facilities - min 10 min uphill walking. If u r lucky u can catch a ride up with the club car...The rooms are very spacious and nice - admittedly luxurious - but thats for me the only nice thing about this place. The food was average at best. Breakfast is ok with freshly made eggs or pancakes, yet, this is pretty standard for hotels across the seychelles. Dinner was really disappointing..food seems to be pre-prepared according to the time you wish to dine. So it doesn't taste fresh and in my case was served almost cold. Also the quality is low with the potato gratin tasting like a cheap ready-made meal. They make an effort with 4courses and presentation but quality is very low. Staff is very unfriendly and not attentive. The reception staff does not give you an orientation when you arrive. They also had drinks with other guests instead of attending to other guests (me) wanting to check out. Waitresses dont bother to clean the tables at dinner and instead leave dirty dishes on the table for at least an hour. Gardening staff are really inappropriate-telling ladies "I love u", "Marry me" etc. The beach of the hotel is also very small - u can walk around the island and find bigger, nice beaches. Yet they are far and the island is just to big for so many tourists - so you wont be lonely at any of them. Lastly, the transport to the main island was organized with staff having finished their shift. Not a problem to travel with staff but then dont make me pay 40 USD for that... All in all a disappointment. Dont waste your money. The island is nice for 1-2 days, maybe go for the other hotel on the island.

"Disappointing 4* - won't be going back!"

We stayed in November at this resort because no availability anywhere else in the Seychelles. I was concerned it was going to be quiet with only 24 villa's and I was right! Firstly the food was very poor and service was incredibly poor not what I expect from 4*! Things like no napkins or full set of cutlery on tables we had to keep asking staff, these are fundamental basic things. Breakfast was a very basic buffet and it was only after we had been there a few days & had voiced our concerns to other guests that the manager told us we could order cereal and cooked food as a la carte, they ran out of orange juice on a few occasions too! Breakfast was from 7.30am but a couple of occasions we didn't get it until 8am when asked why the delay was told the boat bringing over supplies had problems! Evening food was served table service (a la carte) if resort was half full or less and buffet if 3/4 plus full. First week buffet food was luke warm and terrible not much choice, table service ordering from menu was much better. Only one main bar and restaurant in resort, if you booked for lunch you ate in a second dining area that had a ripped snooker table and sofas for relaxing although view was beautiful. Was disappointed that pretty much after 9-9.30pm most guests had gone back to villa's because of lack of entertainment! You could used the kayak's but one was damaged and not enough paddles for the others, peddle boats were not in good condition and think one had a hole in it! Room was nice but dark not many villas had sea view so sitting out on balcony at night you really didn't see anything only trees, because the villa's are built going up the hillside amongst the trees and plants there are a lot of flies and mosquitoes so was bitten even with repellent on! Our room hadn't been made up by 5,45pm on one day and when I asked why was told they had a Russian group of day visitors in and staff had been very busy, that shouldn't have been made a problem for us!! Disappointed we were not told by management of the huge problem of the "hairy caterpillar rash" which a lot of guests and locals on Cerf and Seychelles islands get and unfortunately I did too right from day one and I too had a nasty rash pretty much all over my body which itched and was sore, I took my own antihistamines but to no avail, it only disappeared after more antihistamines when I got home. On numerous days there were no beach towels for everyone so had to keep asking until they brought fresh ones. We had 3 nights of entertainment the whole 2 weeks we were there and 2 of those occasions were because the owner had come onto the island to cover a member of staff who was ill and things then did change for the better. Food was nicer, tables were dressed properly waiting staff were more experienced and local entertainment too. On our last night we were introduced to the new food and beverages manager who was employed to improve things so hopefully he took on our concerns. I have been very truthful in this review, on summing up the location is amazing but this was a very expensive holiday for a 4* resort that in our opinion didn't live up to previous reviews! The owner approached everyone at evening meal one night and took on our concerns and we did see improvements whilst she was there, a lot of staff training needs to be implemented to bring this to a 4* resort which it is advertised at, it could be an amazing place! I am astonished thought after speaking to other guests who were not happy no-one else has voiced their concerns!!

"Honeymoon place"

The resort lies on a pretty island. It offers spacious villas, we loved comfortable jacuzzi and great view over the sea. You can walk on the beach, watch small sharks and stingrays in the water and snorkell. For snorkelling the water is sometimes not so clear, perhaps due to proximity of sweet spring and some corals died because of global warming, that's very sad. Food was nice and romantic place is perfect for honeymoon. You can watch sunrise and sunset, not 100 percent clear but nice, pick up flowers fallen on the ground and decorate your hair like tropical girl. The best is to take kayak and explore nearby islands but be careful, you need strength, sometimes there are waves. What we didn't like - service was sometimes slow, one day our room was not cleaned, one day breakfast was late due to workers coming late, we would prefer meals as buffet since it's faster, but with smaller occupancy there's served food and it takes time. Also transfer from airport is expansive and not special for guests, workers go along. I think it should be free. In other tropical countries transfer is free since you like to bring your guests in. It should be courtesy or it should be boat only for them if you charge. Also upon arrival /tired from long flight/ we had to wait long time at airport for taxi and then for boat. If it's expansive, it should work fast.

"Fails to deliver"

We chose Cerf Island after much research. It seemed to promise so much so we left UK with high hopes. The reception at the airport by Masons was quick and efficient and we were soon on our way to our boat pick up. The driver deposited us and our bags with the assurance that the boat would be with us in a few minutes. We waited...and waited getting more and more annoyed and frustrated. After an hour or so the boat arrived. A cheerful young man said there had been a problem with the boat. Five minutes later we reached Cerf and were greeted by Michael. We lamented the long wait and were told that Masons had given the wrong time. No apology. Our room was not ready but Prakash, the booking manager, said we could use a room to shower and relax until it was. In the meantime we could have breakfast. Here came the next disappointment. The buffet was dismal. Plates of fresh fruit covered with cling film, processed white bread, chafing dishes with baked beans, tomatoes, over cooked mushrooms and some solid looking porridge. No hint of the promised luxury. By now , exhausted we were only interested in getting some rest. We had a Hillside Villa which was pleasant enough but needed some attention. It was spacious with plenty of storage space and a large covered veranda with views of bamboo and palms. The outdoor bathroom needed to be cleaned of all the dead leaves and debris that had accumulated around the attractive plantings. The cheap plastic toilet seat was broken. The grounds are attractive and walking down to the beach or pool is enjoyable. The two pools were not used a great deal even though the resort was full for much of the time. Never a problem getting a sun bed. The beaches were also pretty vacant. We could never work out where people went during the day. Unfortunately the sea is full of weed and swimming is not really an option. The beach is covered in weed after the tide comes in and the staff work hard to keep the area near the hotel clear. Walking along the beach we never encountered more than two or three people. If you are looking for solitude this is the place! Back to meal times. I complained about the standard of breakfast and was told there is an a la carte menu. "You can have what you like.There are baskets of croissants every morning." After a couple of days a menu appeared and a basket of hard, inedible pastries vaguely resembling croissants arrived. Most guests were amused but not impressed. After ten days a magical morning when real croissants appeared and this continued. We even managed to persuade Michael to provide whole meal bread! The evening meal was always a buffet and not very good; certainly not the fine dining promised in the brochure. When I confronted the manager with this she said they were short staffed and couldn't provide a la carte. She also said that westerners come with too high expectations. This is the Seychelles. As I said to her, we paid a huge amount of money for the holiday based on their promise. Their problems should not be the guests' problem. Unfortunately people moan but they don't often complain so Trip Advisor continues to show a level of satisfaction which does not reflect the reality. As with a previous review we met hardly anyone who was happy with the standard of food or service. Drinks are extortionate and the bars are invariably empty so meeting anyone is difficult. I suggested Happy Hour but was told they'd tried that and there was no profit in it. So much for guest relations. There is a poolside bar but hardly used and it looks depressing with no drinks on display. We took a couple of trips. Victoria is small and has a busy market on Fridays. You can go anywhere on Mahe for 5 rps using the bus. There are some nice beaches. A trip to Praline and La Digue is incredibly expensive! Tortoise Island is interesting. And so to the good points. At one stage in my diary I wrote "I am trying desperately to find one redeeming feature" The resort is in a lovely setting. There is nothing to do apart from swim or laze about so it's very relaxing. Prakash , on the front desk is very efficient and helpful and can usually solve any problem. Michael is invariably cheerful and dealt with my complaints philosophically . He did actually respond and there were improvements during our stay. The staff are under pressure , sometimes doing double shifts but are always cheerful. Special mention of Tina in the restaurant who was always efficient. Ashvin, who drives a buggy and does various other jobs and is always there when you need him! The chef is working under difficult circumstances but he can deliver the goods. Probably because I complained so much we were treated to dinner on the beach. It was a really nice meal ,nicely presented and well cooked. I imagine a la carte, when they do it ,is equally good Perhaps we hit a bad spot. They are short staffed and many of the restaurant staff work long hours and need training. This is being addressed with a new restaurant manager arriving soon. My main issue is that they failed to honour their contract in that their brochure promises what they are not able to fulfill. I am sure that if I had said I was unable to pay because I was having some difficulties they would not have been too happy! In all my reviews I try to be as fair as possible and I am usually very positive. I wish I could have been with Cerf.
