• Cote d'Or (in het noordoosten)
Wij bieden aan beide stranden uitstekende hotels aan. Ook het koraalrif is een lust voor het oog.
"Too many cons for me and not enough pros"
I don’t want totally discourage people from going here because there are pros to the place and the cons may not be things that may dismay others from booking here. Pros: The staff were nice, décors was nice, kitchen well equipped, pool always clean and the room very clean. Communication with the establishment was quick. Cons: Biggest was the internet was very poor. would be kicked off in the middle of attempting something and never strong enough to open a page on the net or rarely even receive or read email, cable tv is advertised, upon arrived there were many channels and then the next three days were only one or two. It would have been nice upon check in to get more explanation about the island and good beaches to go to etc..normal things you would do upon check in on vacation to a hotel. Although check in was swift and the room was ready there wasn’t a map and tourist info for the island given (there was a nice beach on the other side of the island that was free to visit but you need to reserve a day before but they never explained that to us upon check in. Basic tourist information that could have been passed on. The beach was not good. There were tons of algae due to winds/currents that also brought misquotes. This was explained to us and beyond their control but other beaches were better. Too bad because otherwise beach was nice. If you have a car like we did not an issue but nice to walk on the beach in the morning on a clean beach with no algae. Also the aircon works well in the bedroom and the rest of the apartment has a celling fan and there is a breeze in the evening but it would be nice to have the aircon available in the rest of the apartment because in the evening while you are eating there can be a lot of mosquitos which would not be an issue if you could close the doors and shutters. Like I said there were many pros and many cons but for us the cons outweighed the pros.
"Quality villa complex, close to the beach - terrific, friendly staff"
We stayed here for 6 days after spending time on Mahé. We just loved it here. The villa is modern, spacious and well furnished. The deck area outside the big opening glass doors is a delight - we sat there for breakfasts and for much of each evening. It's well protected from the sun and also from the occasional rain shower. Depending on which villa you are staying in, there may be a slight view of the sea, but most do not have this. There are extensive gardens - very well maintained - lovely shrubs, plants and trees and each villa has a grassy area at the front with sun loungers provided. A nice touch which we liked - by the step up to the patio was a bowl of clean water to wash sand off our feet before going back into the villa. The kitchen is well equipped (good fridge freezer, cooker, toaster, kettle and microwave, plenty of cutlery and crockery and cooking items), the bed is comfortable and lounge table, chairs and settee just fine. There is a TV in the lounge area - we never switched it on. Plenty of storage for clothes and stuff in the bedroom and a small safe. The villa was serviced each morning. Staff in the office were friendly and willing to provide advice and make restaurant bookings. The manager - Pierre - is charming, caring and helpful. We had an issue with the air conditioning and once Pierre had established the problem he arranged for technicians to come in the fix the equipment. A short walk from the villa took us to the beach - where sun loungers were provided, as well as showers to wash off salt water after swimming. The sea is delightfully warm (as it was at every beach we visited). Swimming is better around the time of high tide - at low tide the bay is very shallow and one can walk out 100 yards and still be only at waist depth of water. It is about a 10 or 15 minute walk along the beach to the local village where we found small supermarkets, restaurants, a couple of souvenir shops, an ATM and local producers selling fruit, vegetables and fish from roadside stalls. (We found that these stalls were usually the best place to buy fresh fruit and veg.). As we have walking problems, we always used our hire car - it was a very shot drive to the village. We are very glad that our accommodation was on this part of Praslin - the west coast area where are most of the hotels and resorts did not appeal to us at all - too crowded and commercialised. And the best beaches are on the east side of the island.
Spent 4 nights after cutting our stay short on the west coast, which had too much seaweed. Units spacious & clean. Great to sit on veranda and look out into the beautiful gardens. After staying at 4 other similar types of accommodation in the past 2 weeks, what was noticeable was that in all other places, each unit had its own WiFi rooter (great signal strength) but here you share a centralised one (weak signal). All other places also had individual DSTV decoders (variety of TV channels), here only a few on the TV. About a 10 minute walk on the beach to the town (Volbert) for supplies (supermarket opposite diving shop at end of main road has the best selection) and great cocktails at Pirogue.
"Good option on Cote d'Or Beach"
We had a pleasant stay at Les Villas d'Or. The location of the property is ideally situated on the Cote D'or Beach on the nicer quieter part of the beach. The beach near the town and the other resorts is pretty narrow and rocky, whereas this part of the beach is white, sandy , with a nice swimming area, without boat traffic. There is a little seaweed on the beach but it is pretty minor at this end of the beach. The town itself, where there are a bunch of restaurants, is about a 20 min walk down the beach , or a 5 min drive if you are renting a car. We'd actually suggest to rent a car to visit some of the other beaches on the island, which are amazing - Lazio and Georgette in particular, and also to travel for dinner if you are not cooking. We had Villa J, which was a 2 bedroom villa situated closest to the beach, so it was literally a few steps to the beach through the gap in the trees. The villa has basic decoration inside with a well equipped kitchen with modern refrigerator, microwave, cooktop, and dishes and cookware. In addition the covered outdoor deck is large, accommodating 6 chairs and some tables. There is air conditioning in the bedrooms , with a main room in between which includes the kitchen, dining and living area, which is not air conditioned and there are air vents open to the outside, so you will need to be comfortable with geckos roaming inside, as well as being careful about mosquitos at night (there are coils available). We had breakfast included with our room, which was a simple continental breakfast which usually had pastries, bread for toasting, fresh fruit, some store bought juice and yogurt, and coffee/tea. Relatively simple- you can supplement with shopping from local supermarkets which are in the Cote D'or town or go out for breakfast at the other resorts if not satisfied, but for us it was fine. Service was very friendly, and Pierre the manager was there as needed to help us with any specifics. We were able to arrange a boat trip to snorkel at Coco Island and Felicite via the office. Overall, it is a good comfortable place to stay on a good spot on Cote D'or beach.
"Beautiful, quiet location & superb hospitality"
We loved the place right from the start. Our villa was just a few steps away from the beach. The beach was much more secluded than other famous beaches on the island, and was spectacular. We preferred it much more than the other beaches. It is also located close to a company offering water sports services/day trips. Pierre was superb as we had difficulty hiring an automatic car for our last day back on Mahe during peak season and he made hundreds of calls to numerous car companies as a favour for us. We really appreciate him going out of his way to help us! Cecile at the reception was also very welcoming and helpful, as was the other hotel staff. One suggestion would be to have some basic toiletries available at the hotel, although it is also easy to buy provisions at the nearby shops a few minutes drive away where there is a bank and different grocery stores. We would definitely stay here again on our next visit.
