"Expensive to stay but little choice in the area"
Stayed here for one night before a sunrise Mount Bromo trip. The setting and scenery was beautiful. Ate in the restaurant that evening and thought the quality of the food was good. Also had lunch in the cafe the next day and though coffee and rice/noodle dishes were also good. Breakfast was average. The staff were attentive and helpful in both the restaurant and cafe. Room average and odd that there is a gap in the bathroom window with no screen which means that insects can get in. The price for the room was way too high but very little choice in the area. I enjoyed having a walk around the grounds and the location was perfect for the early morning trip. It is the room pricing which lets this place down.
"Ok place but I would go somewhere else next time. There are plenty of other options around."
Room is nice and clean but unfortunately we were right next to the construction site so it was SO LOUD ALL THE TIME. Even without the construction noise, the wall is very thin so I could hear everyone who was leaving for the sunrise tour around 3am. Restaurant is good and my favorite part was the art gallery. BEAUTIFUL photos and nice ambient, so calm and tasteful. Worst thing was the staff and their lack of knowledge or willingness to help. Examples: 1) I think there is a program to hire more locals because there were about 6 young staff at the cafe doing nothing because the cafe was empty. We went in for lunch and they all looked at us, but said nothing and did not move. I went up to the till and asked "can I order a sandwich?" All of them looked at each other like, "you go!", "no you go!" which is pretty rude and I'm not asking anything difficult. I JUST WANTED A SANDWICH. It was so awkward to the point that a manager who was in conversation with someone else had to tell one of them to serve us. No point having 6 employees if they are not willing to do work 2) Staff doesn't know their stuff about Mt Bromo or available tours. The worst thing is that rather than saying "I don't know I will get back to you once I find out", they will make something up on the spot. e.g. i) A receptionist said we won't be able to see the sunset because the park is in low season and will close early. Later I found out that the park closes at 6pm. Sunsets at 5:15pm. ii) one receptionist said half day tour is 450k IDR and another later said 600k IDR iii) with one of the staff, we agreed on a tour with certain itinerary and when the driver arrived, the staff who who organised the tour suddenly said "this itinerary is too long and you won't finish on time you have to cut this out". Why change of mind? It's weird because Jiwa Jawa Ijen staff were much better. Management is different for JJ Ijen and JJ Bromo I guess. The point is, there are many other hotels near the area and for this price, I would have gone somewhere else
"Pretty good (but pricey) room. Good restaurant."
Hotel - Not cheap, but there aren't many good options on the mountain. - Need to take a car to the top from here - Lovely area to walk around nearby! Beautiful! - Friendly staff. - Clean room (smelled slightly damp) - Nice grounds & gardens - Hot water showers - Decent breakfast included Restaurant - Main restaurant was quite good and reasonable prices Cafe - terrible tuna sandwich (mostly mayo. yuck) - decent coffee - pretty building
"Nice Hotel in a Limited Pool of Choices"
Most travellers travel to Bromo to climb the volcano and usually don't' spend more than 1 night (max 2 nights) in the area. Thus - there are not many hotel options - and Jiwa Jawa Bromo is definitely the nicest option in the area. Nonetheless, it is not a hotel one would linger at. The staff is very friendly (but a little undertrained) and the rooms are spacious and clean. The bathrooms are sparse. The best thing about this hotel is that the staff is helpful in arranging the particulars of your visit to Bromo (arranging jeeps etc.) It should be noted that the hotel is in the midst of a re-branding and perhaps will have more luxury offerings in the future (e.g. spa, etc.)
Stayed at this hotel for just one night. You have to remember that ur up in the caldera so don’t expect the 5 star. Room is great for the night. Staff are super friendly and food is very good Had ground floor room and no problem.
